I've had it...the cat looks at me and poos whilst I'm opening the door to get out... It's hell. I have a dd and ok it's a small garden but we like to use it. Neighbour who owns the cat is vvv strange.. what's app me to say a leaf from our cherry tree has landed in her garden and her cat might eat it...we've tried electric noisy things, a plastic snake, old cd that shines and some black cat shadow things... nothing...it seems to wait till I'm.in the kitchen and poo in front of me.... suspect neighbour taught it.. what would work that not hurt it. It's very beautiful, just the poo. Isn't. We going to sell and move shortly due to this cat, it honestly is making life hell. My next door neighbour who's elderly have similar issues with the cat...who much poo can this cat do

"You're gonna need a bigger cat."

TomeTome · 23/04/2024 20:45

Orange oil wiped on all the boundaries and a movement sensitive sprinkler

dottiedodah · 23/04/2024 20:46

They don't like white vinegar smell apparently. Very cheap 40p or so a bottle sainsburys own .harmless to cats .

Itsarelative · 23/04/2024 20:49

we tried everything repellants, water, garlic, citrus etc in the end the only thing that worked was cleaning the paving area where next doors cat pooed with jeyes fluid. Never saw the cat again not had one poo in the garden since

TheOriginalEmu · 23/04/2024 20:50

Can you me neighbour teach me how she trained her cat to shit in your garden whilst looking at you? Cos that’s a skill!

Soigneur · 23/04/2024 20:51

Sandwichgen · 23/04/2024 20:42

If it’s a Bengal (stripy and tiger-like), it will love the water / hose/ super soaker wtc

That’s when you fire up the Karcher…

TheHateIsNotGood · 23/04/2024 20:51

Once a cat gets the 'better' of you, you're either toast or have to outsmart the cat. Your neighbour hasn't "trained" the cat to annoy you, although the cherry tree leaf comment is as well as being a bit odd; being elderly, strange with a 'demonic' cat hasn't been a capital offence for a few hundred years now.

Do not show any annoyance when you see this cat. Outstare it. When it starts to shit - you spring into action like a screaming banshee, picking up the shit (in poo-bagged hand) and throw it at the cat and/or over the wall.
Whilst shooting at it with your unbagged hand with a (good quality) water pistol.

Every single time. It will work and at worst you'll feel a lot better for it

We had a constant issue of cat poo down the gravel strip along our drive. There was at least 2 or 3 piles of it everyday frigging day and l the stink when getting in and out of the cars was horrible.

I tried citrus peels, cayenne pepper, cinnamon, black pepper but the bastard thing kept doing it.

Then one day I dropped a big jar of instant coffee (very pissed off) getting it out of the boot of the car and swept all the granules onto the gravel (picked up the glass), no more cat poo! You can still see the black sludge bits when it’s wet so the smell must still be there. That was months ago as well.

So pick up a couple of cheap supermarket own brand coffee granules (not powder) and give that a try, sprinkle liberally around boundary and soil areas.

catscalledbeanz · 23/04/2024 21:01

Op, is there a chance that you and not your neighbor is vvv weird? Because the cat hasn't been trained to poo in your garden and nor does it wait for your presence- it's pretty weird that you think this. In addition To consider selling your house because of this cat is also rather weird.

As for advice I think the best advice has been given- water pistol whenever you see it. But also some perspective, the cat isn't targeting you and nor should you feel so traumatised by it that you need to move house- not least because shitting cats are rather common place (as per frequent complaints on here) and you can't guarantee your next garden will be free of them.

meganorks · 23/04/2024 21:07

You can get motion sensor water sprayers to hook up to your hose. Move it every now and again to take them by suprise

This would definitely make OP the crazy neighbour 🤣🤣🤣

You've met cats right?

I laid a length of gabion mesh on top of an area of bark mulch that my cat decided to use as a change from her litter tray, it has large enough holes to plant through but stops cat digging holes

I came on to say the same. I had a courtyard garden with beds at the edge and every day there would one or two new cat poos. I tried everything. The only thing that worked was wire mesh over the top of the soil and then cutting holes in it to plant through. Stopped as soon as I did that and never happened again. It’s a pain to do but once done it’s done.

But would mess with the PH of your soil and kill off plants. Would kill off other things too.

GameOfJones · 23/04/2024 21:33

Coffee granules sprinkled all over the borders and spray it with water every time you can. We had similar from next door's cat shitting in our garden and killing birds until I got it with a good shot from the hosepipe. We haven't had an issue since.

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 23/04/2024 21:33

Just to say as a cat owner, it's extremely unlikely your neighbour trained your cat to use your garden as a litter tray - it's just what they do, never in their own backyard. This is the norm for cats. You can get cat repellent sprays. Maybe try one of those.

QuestionableMouse · 23/04/2024 21:38

MikeRafone · 23/04/2024 19:25

sprinkle jays fluid powder around the areas that the cat poos - they don't like the smell and its harmless to animals

Jeyes fluid is NOT harmless to animals. It is not safe for pets while wet and can be deadly to cats.

PoppyCherryDog · 23/04/2024 21:39

If there’s a particular place it likes to go then try make it uninviting. My parents put sticks in the ground sticking up right so their neighbours cat wouldn’t go in a particular flower bed that it took a liking to. It worked.

EatSprayGlove · 23/04/2024 21:41

Water pistols for immediate deterrent and cocktail sticks in the ground for when don't see. Otherwise try showering it with love, my cats hate that 😂

FortofPud · 23/04/2024 21:45

If the neighbour gets in a tiz over a leaf falling from your tree (I know a neighbour who does this too so I beleive you!) then the poor cat is probably escaping to be able to poo in peace!

It's gross though, so you have my sympathies. I would try the coffee granules idea above and see how that goes. I wouldn't move because of the cat alone - you might move somewhere else with a cat, or have even worse neighbours. It doesn't seem worth the risk.

Imgoingandnevercomingback · 23/04/2024 21:48

QuestionableMouse · 23/04/2024 21:38

Not great for anything living, including plants.

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/04/2024 22:12

Pump action water pistol. The pump action puts the water under pressure, increasing its range. You say your garden's tiny, so it should be able to shoot the cat wherever it is in the garden. Keep it filled and pumped so that all you have to do is open the window/door, point and press.

Water does not harm the cat, but it does keep it busy doing a full nose-to-tail clean for the next hour or so Smile. Eventually the cat will associate your garden with getting wet, and stop coming.

Flossflower · 23/04/2024 22:19

I think cats are quite intelligent and will avoid areas soaked with Jeyes fluid so it won’t kill them. People are advised to use Jeyes fluid as a disinfectant for bird feeders, animal housing, etc. We have a super soaker ready loaded in the back garden. Every time I put in new plants or dig the soil I put in bamboo kebab skewers in the soil, point side up, every 4 cms. This does seem to stop cats from using my borders as a toilet.
