for food lost due to fridge/freezer breakdown?

I am MAD MAD MAD!!

Fridge/freezer is just 7 mths old so covered by warranty an alarm went off on it indicating freezer was getting too warm - so followed instructions in manual.

Alarm went off again next day so repeated instructions.

Next day alarm went off saying freezer dangerously warm and to dispose of food - serviceline was closed by this time so called in the morning by which time fridge felt warm too.

Engineer came next day and asked if I had kept packaging of food for to claim.

I said "no, it was bin day today so we threw it all away and when I booked the call no-one told me to keep it or made me aware I could claim"

He said he could be back in a week with the parts which was no good as we were on hols so booked it for Mon 31st.

came back from hols to a voicemail saying engineer booked for Wed 2nd 12-6pm.

Called to complain and told parts not in until then but was given a number to call to log a complaint, which suprisingly had closed 5 minutes earlier and wouldn't reopen until Monday morning.

So I try to call on Monday and a recorded message says we cannot deal with your call at this time and cuts me off.

Tried for a couple of hours and got through to the most sarcastic b*$£h ever who proceeds to tell me that fridge contents are not covered as you can eat these ????? (like I'm gonna eat the entire WARM contents of my fridge) and that freezer contents may be paid out but it's not guarenteed and as she CAN'T SEE INTO THE FUTURE she can't say if I'll be reimbursed.

GOD I'M MAD!!!!

Sorry for the long rant but moral of the story is DO NOT BUY HOTPOINT - their customer service is S*%t

Contents insurance may cover you.

Could you give them a receipt to refill the freezer - fishfingers and vanilla ice cream rather than lobster tails and bottles of vodka?

will have to dig out contents insurance - was thinking it wouldn't be cost effective as we had a flood we claimed for 2 yrs ago and excess had risen to £100.

I really can't get my head round the fact you can claim for the freezer food but not the fresh?

is there any logic whatsoever in that?

just checked contents insurance and that only covers the freezer too.

I will certainly second the motion that HOTPOINT ARE CRAP!!!

2GIRLS · 02/04/2008 00:55

I had a load of bother with hotpoint, but they do only cover for for freezer food I'm afraid.
But Hotpoint sent out a feezer food claim form without me having to ask for it and they paid without question, so I can't see what the problem would be with yours. Make sure you push them on it.

devonsmummy · 02/04/2008 13:33

well they should have been here today to fit parts and guess what?????/

The main part is missing so will have to re-order and the earliest appointment is 15th April!!!!

You can imagine how MAD I am.

Called Argos as this is where we purchased from and we are still paying for it - all they can do is chase Hotpoint as they give them 28 days to repair white goods.

Thanks god DH's bosses have come to our rescue today and given us a fridge to tide us over.

I had a Hotpoint washing machine and it was the worst machine I ever had and would NEVER buy anything from Hotpoint again. The machines are crap and the service is crap. When once my washing machine broke down I didn't have it for six weeks because they 'couldn't get the parts'. Unfortunately at the time we couldn't afford another one. The service engineers are all so arrogant also!! Go for Bosch next time - they are fabulous - really pleased with everything.
