To think that Landlords have a bad name.

NC for this.

Is it just me or are all landlords frowned upon a MN.

We own and rent out 3 properties all our properties are rented out to young families, just under market rate, we allow them to decorate their homes how they like, and if there is any issues or problems they just call us and we sort it out ASAP.

I know that there is some terrible landlords out there, that should be dealt with but there are thousands of other that are decent that follow all the laws and their tenants are very happy.

You're right - nobody ever criticises bankers... 💁

The point is more that it is a commodity and as such profit will be made whether by a landlord, mortgage broker, lender or council.

Arewe29 · 20/04/2024 22:15

We still have not had an answer from @Applescruffle about people that want to rent.

Considering all landlords are scum and there should be no landlords at all.

I am unsure of where 3 kids would live, if I had to sell up.

In most cases there are alternatives to having a car.

most ppl need a home.

Some have no room to move sideways or down a level.

I’ve just sold and bought a new car, I declined leasing, I actually prefer to own it like I did my last.

If I couldn’t afford the car I’d get the bus/take cabs.

Posted too soon,

the next step down for some is a mobile home or tent. 😢

PeaceOnThePorch · 20/04/2024 19:24

I do agree with this. Why do you care OP?

We rent out properties, we make money, they’re an investment. We provide nice homes for tenants who want/need to rent them. I don’t really care what people think. I know I’m not ‘scum’, my loved ones know that, so if someone wants to judge me based on one thing I do, that’s their issue.

Exactly, this is what I mean.

I’m not a LL so don’t have personal experience like Peace here however I don’t even understand how this is an issue. If you know you’re a good Landlord then seriously why do you care about what people say?

That’s why I said you’re sounding a bit NAMALTy. There are good men, yes, but a lot of men are not good men. Same with Landlords. There are good Landlords ofc but a lot of them are also not good. It is what it is

ttcat37 · 20/04/2024 22:25

None of the people fucking complaining about landlords would be moaning if their own parents had planned ahead and saved money for their futures. Which is what I’m doing for my kids. No regrets.

It goes without saying that I’m not one of these landlords that doesn’t upkeep the house, doesn’t fix anything etc…

Arewe29 · 20/04/2024 22:25

TeaandChoc222 · 20/04/2024 19:36

Now add in the value of your asset (house) in the long term, not a bad return right? Few other investments would outperform imo.

Most houses will make profit.

Most posters will be happy to make money on their house when they come to sell it. Pushing up the housing market.

Lots of people lease their cars. I lease mine. That means I pay to use it but I'll never own it. That's the same as renting a property.

Well, yes, obviously. But a car is not food or shelter. Its not a necessity.
What's your point?

There are also a lot of poor tenants who deserve to be sleeping in a tent in the park'

I was posting because of other threads.

Just looking at the answers on here that there should be no LLs ever, just goes to show the criticism hence why I posted.

This is the problem really, 3 DC have a home based on your goodwill, good finances decisions.

If you wake up and decide to cash in for a world trip there’s feck all they can do about it.

I don’t blame you for that, I don’t hate LL, there is a place for them.

But the system shouldn’t be this way.

when the LL property was originally a council house that the family prob would have afforded without housing benefit that we are all paying for so LL can pay their BTL mortgage until they sell at profit.

My parents are farmers. They rent their home and land. My mum used an inheritance to buy a small house to rent out in case she needs somewhere to live in the future, when they can’t farm anymore. How is she a leech?

Just ignore the criticism and get on with your life. You’re not going to change peoples thoughts who are intent on demonising landlords. You can’t have a sensible exchange with people who say all landlords are scum and compare them to men who use sex workers, to pick out just a couple of claims from the thread. 🤯 These people are ridiculous.

3 DC have a home, that their parents can afford, its not through my goodwill, if they pay its their home until they decide to move out.

Some posters think its immoral to make a profit on housing. A council made a profit on the house that they rented to a family.

I have not seen the them compare them to men who use sex workers, FFS there really is some unwell people on MN.

Absolute rubbish. When I left home at 18 and went to university I needed a room to rent. I lived in 3 different rented homes in 3 years and all landlords were great. I could not have gone to university had landlords not existed. I then moved to London for a job and obviously could not afford to buy - I rented several different properties from several different landlords. All straightforward transactions and all treated me well, fixed anything that needed fixing. Returned my full deposits.

I could not have gone to university, nor climbed the career ladder without landlords renting their properties to me.

I now have climbed up the home ownership ladder and own a large family home. I have nothing but kind feeling and gratitude to the Multiple Landlords who housed me for around 15 years of my life. Where would 18-25 year olds live if Landlords did not exist??!

Arewe29 · 20/04/2024 22:42

Tandora · 20/04/2024 19:34

What makes you think most people are happy to rent?! Surely most people would prefer to own a house and pay a mortgage rather than rent. I know that’s not the case for everyone, but a hella lot of people are trapped renting because they can’t afford a mortgage. Their wages are paying off the mortgage of their landlord. It’s like the monopoly board- some getting poorer while others get richer and richer.

All of our tenants are happy to rent from us, and have always rented.

Hoarding properties is gross no matter how nice you are.

The issue I have is that landlords trip over themselves to say how amazing they are and how they rent out their properties under market rate and blah blah.

STOP pretending you are doing people a favour. You. Are. Doing. It. To. Make. Money.

Of course they are. And why not. And they can do it honourably.

stevn · 20/04/2024 22:48

Can’t afford a mortgage while being charged the monthly cost of a mortgage in rent, and not being able to save for a deposit on top you mean?

That's on the banks, not the landlords. Landlords are prepared to take the risk. Banks are not

stevn · 20/04/2024 22:49

An asset that someone else is paying for. I couldn't sleep at night knowing that I was leeching off people who can't afford their own property.

What's their alternative?

Arewe29 · 20/04/2024 22:56

SENMum1985 · 20/04/2024 19:56

@caringcarer I appreciate you might be a pleasant person but surely you see that some of that 40% of people might be homeowners if people like yourself were not owning multiple homes. Also you say you are not forcing anyone to try and rent from you & then say 47 applications were made for your one rental property. People are evidently desperate to find accommodation. So much so that they are battling against 46 others. People who own multiple houses are perpetuating this system.

47 people wanted to rent the house for whatever reason, because LL have been forced to sell.

You do know that when people put up a house to sell, you can have 12 offers.

The housing market is such not just because of LLs, you need to look at the bigger picture, there is a place for good LLs.

That comment was deleted, but it was made earlier on the thread. I took a screen shot as it was so outrageous and I had a feeling it may be deleted. 😅

Why do people tar any group of people with the same brush? Anger? Jealousy? Need someone to blame for their own situation? Lack of knowledge? Who knows? I’ve read enough of these threads to know you’re not changing their minds though and they get angrier and angrier and often lose their minds.

Crystallizedring · 20/04/2024 22:57

We rent and so do most people I know. Some of us are lucky and have good landlords but most have landlords who are just in it for the money.
However good or bad landlords none of us want to rent we would all like to buy. But we can't save for the deposit while paying the landlords mortgage and even if we could all houses that do come up for sale are brought by a bloody landlord!

Arewe29 · 20/04/2024 23:00

StMarieforme · 20/04/2024 18:35

In Japan, they do not see houses as investments. They see them as homes.
That system would stop the unfairness here.
You have 4 houses. I have none (I have had houses but had to sell due to divorce and could not get back on) and my daughter then stands no chance.
How is that ever fair? My rent is more than my LL mortgage. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your rent is going to be more than your LLs mortgage as they have other bills to pay, if your boiler breaks who pays for it?

I would love to have seen that comment.

Good landlords have a place in society and as some poster questioned my ability to sleep at night, I sleep well as we own bricks and land our tenants have a home that is not temp accommodation.
