To be frustrated at meal deal selections?

In the Meal Deal sections. Went to four shops today and none had a plain cheese sandwich (not even any price labels so assume they don't sell them) but a variety of cheese and pickle, cheese and onion, triple cheese etc.

FFS I just want a plain cheese sandwich!

Go to a sandwich shop and have them make one? Or buy a loaf of bread and some pre sliced cheese while out and about?

Please don’t bring back plain cheese sandwiches, I was vegetarian in the early 2000s and it was the only option fairly frequently. And it is by far the worst sandwich, ever.

I'm no longer in the uk and gosh I miss these meal deals

LeafyEmerald · 20/04/2024 10:32

I can’t be the only person who wondered at you going to four shops/ supermarkets, instead of buying some cheese and a bread bun/roll or just bread ?

Anewuser · 20/04/2024 10:38

If your child is that fussy he knows the difference between and roll and sandwich, then you really need to be prepared and think ahead. Bring food from home.

I know you’ve used the excuse -that isn’t always possible but that’s not true. Keep food in a bag for him (cereal bars etc) that he will eat in an emergency. He didn’t need to have a sandwich.

@SanFranBear Co-op member card is a one off £1 not an annual charge. They have the best meal deals.

Oooh... even better! They often have money off Hula Hoops which are my number one favourite crisps (well, the BBQ Beef ones!)

They won't be mandatory

It’s strange but not all Co-ops have the same meal deal stock. The one by my work does a costa coffee and is all £3.50 stuff. The one in the posher next town along has a different coffee that’s not included but lots of premium offerings. I get a Yo sushi and a Purdey as a treat when I’m there.

I've already said that I usually make up a lunch before we go out but on the odd occasion we're out and about with no lunch it would be nice for the big chains to sell them🙄

I really don't need parenting advice. I know to prepare my child a lunch. It was a one off where I expected to be back home for lunch but we weren't so hence me having to hunt round the local shops for a sandwich.

@Yohannsd the odd occasion you want lunch won't be catered for by supermarkets....

It's the people that use them regularly that get cater for, based on demand of items. Of which, plain cheese clearly isn't called for.

I do find that hard to believe that a cheese sandwich would be so unpopular that they decide not to stock it. They sell plain ham so why not cheese?

I feel quite humbled to be on the same thread as so many perfect people whose lives have never taken an unexpected turn. Their medical appointments never run late, they never run into traffic problems or cancelled trains, they always foresee every problem and prepare for all of them, and of course as a result of their perfect parenting they don't have fussy children. You and I can learn from them, @Yohannsd.

Sorry to go on about the Coop but I was in mine earlier so had a little peek at their meal deals and looks like we have a two tier deal in there - £3,50 or a premium selection for £5 but, and an important but, if you're a member you can get the £5 deal for £3,50!

Mind...Blown....!

Solmum1964 · 20/04/2024 18:06

I used to have a different problem with twin DC.
They wouldn't eat any sandwich that contained butter/marge or mayo, and this went on into their teens.
I celebrated when we discovered M&S Hoisin Duck wraps!

No sadly not. The premium meal is £5.50 reduced to £5 for members. I have bought a lot of these so am certain. It’s still pretty good value the yo sushi is much nicer than the Co-op one and it’s £6 on its own so even at £5 it’s good value with a drink/ snack.

Well that’s not what you originally quoted:

”And I could make it myself which I do but when we're out and about and not home for lunch unintentionally it would be quite nice to be able to buy one in a supermarket!”

You made it sound like this is a frequent event.

Not perfect - just experienced.

I’ve brought up more than a fussy eater - a disabled child. Therefore, I always had to prepare properly before we went anywhere.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 20/04/2024 18:52

M&S do children's sandwiches in little triangles and have plain ham or plain cheese.

BurbageBrook · 20/04/2024 19:23

Try being gluten and dairy intolerant 😭 there's nothing to eat!

Right, but there is usually only one vegetarian option, and I most certainly don’t want it to be boring ole plain cheese. Gimme a ploughman’s or something at least.

A lot of the people buying the cheese option are vegetarians or those who have religious dietary requirements. Most of them are fed up of “plain cheese”

If there was a market for plain cheese, they would sell it. Simple.

Again, just go to a local sandwich shop, they’ll have cheese and bread.

rainbowsparkle28 · 20/04/2024 20:06

Try being coeliac and getting a decent gluten free meal deal 🙄...
