Hotel lounge/bar with low music and someone is listening to football on a tablet

So I can hear both and it's doing my head in.

Friend says it's fine, I say it's bloody out of order. Piss off to your room if you want to watch and listen to a tablet.

Agree totally with you

I was in a hospital waiting room today, child about 11/12 watching phone with volume on, everyone forced to listen. By definition most people there are not well in some way. So inconsiderate and selfish.

My rule of thumb is: would it be ok if everyone did that? Imagine if every single person got out their screen to watch something with volume… what a din.

Greywitch2 · 17/04/2024 20:24

Out of order and would do my head in. I'd be going over and asking them to turn it off please.

Soonenough · 17/04/2024 20:26

So entitled and ignorant . Nobody should have a device that can be heard by other people. And with football why is sound even necessary Sometimes I'd think I would like to sit beside someone like that and play Baby Shark really loudly.

RemarkablyBrightCreature · 17/04/2024 20:27

Selfish twattish behaviour 🤬

BringMeTea · 17/04/2024 20:27

Cunt behaviour.

Couldyounot · 17/04/2024 20:29

YANBU for the reason stated. The bloke (yes, an assumption) can watch whatever game it is in his room

savethatkitty · 17/04/2024 20:30

Or atleast use bloody headphones. Honestly, some people have no clue. Selfish git

WimpoleHat · 17/04/2024 20:31

You’re right. It’s antisocial behaviour to do that without using headphones.

Radiatorvalves · 17/04/2024 20:38

I’ve been known to tell people to turn it off. Extremely irritating behaviour.

XenoBitch · 17/04/2024 20:39

Yep, use headphones. That goes for blokes watching football, and kids watching Peppa Pig, and everyone inbetween.

Houseplanter · 17/04/2024 20:46

I'm so glad you all agree.. I find myself getting more grumpy and intolerant of such behaviour as every year passes.. relieved I'm not just being a misery.

PeaceOnThePorch · 17/04/2024 20:51

I wouldn’t do it but it wouldn’t bother me.

Ask staff if it’s allowed and if not they should ask him to wear headphones or move. No point sitting there feeling annoyed but not trying to change it.

PurpleCacao · 17/04/2024 20:56

Agreed. The demise of headphones is one of many examples of modern life becoming more shit.

Headphones used to be a fiver, and a headphone jack in every device.

Now devices don’t have headphone jacks, and headphones are £200 wireless bluetooth tiny earbuds that get lost, or big over-head ones that people find too big to carry round with them. So people play their rubbish out loud.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 17/04/2024 21:00

I'm with you. I was forced to endure a 20-minute bus journey the other day with little kid with tablet playing annoying song on repeat at loud volume and indulgent Grandma encouraging her. I didn't say anything because I kept thinking surely they've had enough now? Also, maybe they'll get off? But no, and no.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 17/04/2024 21:02

I'd ask them if they have headphones or to turn the volume off, so entitled and fucking inconsiderate.

ontheflighttosingapore · 17/04/2024 21:02

Why do people let their kids play on their phones annoying you tube shit and everyone else has to listen I could scream

G123456789 · 17/04/2024 21:05

Had this on holiday recently, we sat outside of the main bar in the complex but where we can listen/watch the entertainment. we have sat there every time we visit this place and know it gives us the ability to chat and still enjoy the music. An older couple came, sat at the table next to us, there had to be 50 tables free...and watched man United full volume!

Rocknrolla21 · 17/04/2024 21:07

Wouldn’t bother me. You’re sat in a bar, there’s going to be noise. I think this is one of those things you choose to be annoyed about.

fisherking1 · 17/04/2024 21:08

I did once. A 6hr delayed flight and at 1am somone was watching inane youtube videos at full volume. People were obviously annoyed but no one said anything. I told them to switch it off - they did. They were oblivious to people leaving to sit at different gates to get away from the noise!

There's always one

Always one what? Person who wouldn’t be bothered by football noise at a bar?

dinmin · 17/04/2024 21:18

YANBU! Drives me mad that people think this is ok. I agree with the “what if everyone did this” test (in many areas of life!)

I was in a restaurant one evening recently - nice independent Italian, dim lighting etc. waiting for my friends to arrive. Guy on table next to me (alone) was watching videos on his phone then made a long call. Two young women across the room sitting opposite each other were on a video call with their friend?! Passing the phone between them. For probably a good half hour. I could hear pretty much every word across the room.

bonkers.

Of course there is noise in a bar...chatter etc. But stuff on phones/tablets really stands out. It is really hard to filter it out if you are talking to someone else, or trying to read.
Ambient noise is fine, but tinny crap on a phone really does my head in.

DiveBombingSeagull · 17/04/2024 21:45

YANBU, it is so anti social to listen without headphones.
