Cold callers

Just had a cold caller at my door at dinnertime wanting me to swap electricity providers... I really didn't think this was even a thing any more!

Aibu to think it's a total waste of time and wonder who signs up to these things at their door?

I bought a sign from Amazon for my door saying no cold callers. Never had any since.

Yep as with pp get yourself a sign, these kinds of things thankfully stopped with lockdown and are now creeping back in again.

If I’m not expecting anyone, I don’t answer. My neighbours have my mobile number, so they can message me if need be. Otherwise, I know whether I’m expecting someone…

Yeah in the past week I've had a teenager stumbling through a sales pitch for milk delivery and some random man asking if I'd like my roof washed.

I'm not gonna book anyone in without looking at their google reviews and looking at other providers first, so does make me wonder how much revenue they get through the cold-knocking approach (considering it's essentially wasted time)!

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/04/2024 19:17

Some people do, typically older people who are more likely to stick with the same provider for years because they don’t do price comparison websites or study different tariffs. It’s a shit job, so I’m always polite to them and just say I’m locked into a contract.

FeatherBlack · 17/04/2024 19:41

It doesn't really bother me. I never sign up but am always polite and just say no thanks, I'm not interested. If they are persistent, I just say no thanks again, and close the door.

I was only wondering as it was a while since I saw any and just thought most people (in my fairly new, clearly young family type estate) wouldn't be in the market for signing up to anything without checking out the reviews or alternatives...
