Cleaner told me off

PremiumRaa · 16/04/2024 12:59

I usually get to work early to get ready for the day as it's easier for me after a long ish commute. The work toilets are separate large cubicles with a toilet and sink in each one so I take my make up bag into work and usually spend 15-20 mins in one before I go into the office.

This morning I got ready at work as usual and as I left the cleaner was leaning on the main door waiting for me to come out so he could go in and clean. I had left some rubbish (an empty paper bag and a napkin) on top of the bin as the bin lid wasn't working when I pressed the foot pedal.

The cleaner looked annoyed as I left and then went into the cubicle. I had only walked a few steps down the corridor before he called me back shouting "lady lady!" And then beckoned me into the toilet, gestured at the rubbish saying "this is you - these are clean toilets" and picked up the rubbish and put it on top of my handbag then picked up some paper towels from the floor and stuffed them onto the top of my bag as well whilst complaining.

I was so shocked and embarrassed I took the rubbish and walked away and put it in another bin. I felt really stressed like he's going to report me to building services or something. The toilet was clean it was just the rubbish on top of the bin and I think he was annoyed waiting outside for a while. WABU?

Clean up after yourself I'm glad they told you

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 16/04/2024 14:40

So the cleaner didn’t let you treat him as your skivvy? I like that man.

PremiumRaa · 16/04/2024 14:42

@Triangulasaurus I bet the responses would have been very different!

Thank you all for the replies.

I know this isn't really allowed but this is a reverse - the cleaner is my partner. He told me what happened and worried he was unreasonable but I've shown him this thread and he feels a lot better.

Usually I hate reverses but I’m so relieved that you don’t think like this that I’ll forgive you.

Is your DP worried the woman will report him?

arethereanyleftatall · 16/04/2024 14:44

As it seems no one has told you these things op...

  1. If a bin doesn't open/work etc then you take your own rubbish away with you
  1. A sanitary bin is for sanitary produce. And specifically only that.
arethereanyleftatall · 16/04/2024 14:45

Whoops, sorry, missed the reverse post.

@Triangulasaurus I bet the responses would have been very different!

So if someone had posted "I'm a cleaner and a lady at work left her rubbish on top of a sanitary bin in the toilets for me to pick up and put in the bin - I called out to her and gave her rubbish back",

yeah, posters would be all over the thread saying "ewww gross, can't believe she didn't put it int he bin, disgusting/lazy/entitled"

just accept you're wrong, you shouldn't have left the rubbish on the top of the bin for someone else to sort, especially as there were other working bins nearby and move on.

PremiumRaa · 16/04/2024 14:48

@Akamai Yes I think he's worried about that as he said she seemed upset so he was worried she would escalate it because he stuffed the stuff into the top of her bag and I said he shouldn't have.

I don’t think this is a troll post, I’ve seen people leave behind a terrible mess in work toilets. The public are disgusting.

There are a lot of reasons it's frowned upon.

  1. It's a waste of everyone's time
  2. No one ever give the proper story
  3. Of course replies would have been different. If you advising one party, you are talking about ONLY their behaviour NOT the other party's behaviour because they aren't here.
  4. We would tell the OP (for example) not to tell management. That doesn't mean the woman in the story won't.
  5. It's annoying

Hopefully she won’t report because she realises she will reveal herself as a lazy twat for not wanting to lift the lid of the bin.

Oh ffs!
How tedious.

exomoon · 16/04/2024 14:56

This reminds me of when my DH had to use the women’s toilets at work one day due to men’s toilets being out of order. He said he developed a whole new appreciation for my fastidious habits in the bathroom at home because the women’s toilets at work were disgusting, smeared with period blood and shit. (Not that the men’s toilets were better, albeit without period blood).

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 16/04/2024 14:58

He shouldn't have piled the things on top of her bag, but I can understand his Frustration.

iLovee · 16/04/2024 15:05

🥱

I (sort of) get a reverse first post but to carry it in is just bizzare. What a waste of everyone's time.

I also highly doubt your "boyfriend" feels better about this now - this is the same as "posting for a friend"

WittiestUsernameEver · 16/04/2024 14:31

No he isn't paid to put other people's rubbish in the bin....

Of course he is. Don't be silly. Inevitably the job description of a cleaner is keeping an area clean and tidy, which involves putting things in the bin.

Sandwichblock · 16/04/2024 15:10

Oh dear. Well I don't think the woman in the cublicle should have left her rubbish, but a cleaner obviously can't go round shoving rubbish into people's bags. Also isn't it his job to make sure the pedal bin works/is replaced?

ButterflyKu · 16/04/2024 15:11

This is a very tone deaf post. Why would you set yourself up like this?!

CJ0374 · 16/04/2024 15:14

Why on earth wouldn't your partner just say 'excuse me'? Rather than yelling down the corridor 'lady, lady!!!' 🙄

Yeah, OK then. It's a reverse. Sure it is. Mmmm hmmm. OK, Jan.

It sounds to me like English isn't his first language

justanotherrandomperson · 16/04/2024 15:15

I don't think he should have put the stuff on her bag. It's annoying when someone leaves rubbish on top of a bin, but I don't think he should have gone beyond oh-so-politely informing her that she'd left some things behind, indicating her rubbish.

It doesn't matter because no way is this a reverse. She's just trying to wriggle out of getting her arse handed to her. I'm surprised so many believe it tbh

But the OP has said she has shown him all these responses, so presumably he has a good enough understanding of English to be reading them?
