CocoBellaSparkle · 13/04/2024 16:35

Hi my friends
I am nearly 40 and now dying of incurable ‘c’

former hard working career .. lost house and my debts are nearly £100k through the fat evil monster

Put my kids through the best education .. trips abroad, dream holidays

n fortunately oldest has become dad no 2
Broke my nose .. chases me (I could write a book)

my question is

and my vision is going as I’m dying my mortgage in Buckhurst Hill was £1k a month and now my private rent for a small apartment in Chelmsford is £1800 a month

should I get a one way ticket to the sunshine?

I am sorry to hear you are so ill.

It depends on the finances and treatment options. If you can afford to rent/live in Spain, and can access whatever treatment you will need, absolutely go.

Perhaps it's worth going for a holiday anyway. 🌹

YourSnugHazelTraybake · 13/04/2024 16:41

Sorry to say op but with that level of debt you're unlikely to get through the entry requirements for residence ☹️

fieldsofbutterflies · 13/04/2024 16:42

How will you get a Visa and finance your stay?

I'm sorry you're so unwell but I don't think this will be possible Sad

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 13/04/2024 16:45

Go on a round the world cruise. Brilliant doctors in board should you need them, looked after everyday. Lovely.

PonyPatter44 · 13/04/2024 16:48

I don't think your dream is unreasonable as a dream, and I am so sorry this is happening to you. I think its unlikely you'll be able to settle permanently in Spain, but if I were you I'd go for as long a holiday as you can manage.

Would you be able to move to a cheaper bit of Essex, if that might help with finances?

stayathomer · 13/04/2024 16:50

The sun sounds good x Hugs op, take care x

Don't be daft, the doctors on a cruise liner are not cancer specialists.

I'm so sorry to read this OP. I don't have any suggestions, but I hope someone with great advice comes along soon.

It sounds to me like the Op is saying there is nothing more to be done. Sorry if I’ve misinterpreted that. Obviously not appropriate for active treatment ( but not is moving to Spain!)

They're highly unlikely to even let her on board.

Clariana · 13/04/2024 16:53

I'm so sorry to hear that OP, if you can't stay in Spain because you don't meet the residence requirements, perhaps try Gibraltar, anyone British can live there as far as I know.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/04/2024 16:54

If you're definitely dying then go on the cruise - loads of people die on cruises

There's no point in declaring your condition, you don't get life insurance

And put it all on a massive credit card so you don't have to pay for it FlowersGinFlowersFlowersGinGinFlowers

UneTasse · 13/04/2024 16:54

How long do you think you have left? Unfortunately you won’t be allowed to stay for very long in Spain, but that might not be an issue. Do you have any assets or means of support?

Notimeforaname · 13/04/2024 16:56

Your child broke your nose???

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 13/04/2024 16:57

Lots of sensible people have given advice, my two cents? Do it ❤️

WhiteLeopard · 13/04/2024 16:58

You can stay in Spain for up to 3 months without a visa. I say do it. Good luck OP.

Ginkypig · 13/04/2024 16:58

Look if you’re dying then do whatever the hell you want my lovely. You know your finances and the timeline so I can’t give you any opinion about if you could do Spain specifically but my vote is if you want something and it’s manageable do it. This is your life and your end so you are the one that matters in this!

just make sure wherever you end up or whatever you end up doing you can access decent doctors for when the time comes that you need more extensive palliative care like pain management. I wouldn’t want you to end up suffering unnecessarily.

Don't be daft, the doctors on a cruise liner are not cancer specialists.

You can't get on a cruise ship without insurance, which would be prohibitive for a terminal cancer diagnosis.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 13/04/2024 17:05

OP I'd rent in Spain near an airport if you can for as long as you can but make sure your insurance is upto scratch. I'm not sure about the ability to be there permanently unless you have residency rights. There are cheaper parts of the UK with outstanding Cancer hospitals, The Beatson in Glasgow is an amazing cancer hospital with loads of support resources in the area, Hyndland. You could afford a really lovely place to rent in this area, west end. It's flat, loads of parks, independent retail, resteraunts, culture. Not sunny Spain but it's a very nice quality of life.

Catza · 13/04/2024 17:40

Solid plan, however, you can now only stay in Spain 90 days out of 180 so you still need a plan for the other half of the year.

TheNurdnugget · 13/04/2024 17:45

People keep saying to go on a cruise. I'm not sure they realise a) if she could sneak on board without insurance I doubt b) they'd have the pain relief drugs on board suitable for final days palliative care.

tolerable · 13/04/2024 19:06

yes.

TimeGrabsYouByTheWrist · 13/04/2024 19:19

YANBU but will another country let you in with health issues?? You'll need to show you have sufficient insurance to pay for any health care you need.

What about a cruise? I found a 99 day P&O one for less than £10k

Minfilia · 13/04/2024 19:26

You might be able to apply for a non lucrative visa. I think you just need to show you have around £25k a year to support yourself.

You’d also need to apply for an NI number and have medical insurance.

I hope you have people you love who are looking after you.
