Was I wrong to egg the car?!

Simplepink · 13/04/2024 06:11

I stand by my convictions and don’t think I was wrong but interested to hear what other people think.
my husband thinks a note would’ve sufficed.

so we live right next to a public footpath which leads up to accommodation for lots of elderly people.

yesterday I noticed a car had blocked the entrance to this footpath which is clearly marked as to be kept clear at all times.
asked around neighbours, no one knew the cars owner.
waited a good couple of hours, person still hasn’t returned to car.
Many elderly people with walking aides struggling to get past. Anyone with a wheelchair wouldn’t be able to.

i had already left a note on the car but realised the owner would return, rumple up the note and not be slightly inconvenienced. . . . Sooo I egged the car windscreen. (Yes I know I’m clearly 12 years old/it’s a very minor criminal offence etc)
But my logic is that this person was therefore also mildly inconvenienced as retribution for their blasé attitude to others.

YABU to egg the car
YANBU to egg the car

(disclaimer this may be completely hypothetical and there’s no proof I am the neighbour who egged the car!)

Childish and pathetic is correct. Why do you even have to involve yourself. You are a simply a vandal. It's not your job to police the neighbourhood and monitor others. I hope they have dash cam and you get prosecuted. If you were male this thread would be very different

What a waste of food. People are struggling to feed their kids and you chuck food at cars.

A rational person would put a note on the first time. I know that they are in the wrong but seriously have a word with yourself.

Elvis1956 · 13/04/2024 14:03

Why didn't you let a tyre down? They would have a spare, have to change it (pain the bum) then take it to be repaired thinking it's a puncture....Will out them off parking there again...plus you could still have a fried egg sandwich

Kellogg1 · 13/04/2024 14:05

A good egging never hurt anyone. Throw at at the person next time and run away laughing

Awful isn’t it. If you dm OP they might be able scrape the egg into a bowl and put it to one side for you?

They might retrieve it for handwriting analysis

Slightly off topic here but you have very high expectations of the police! I was attacked by a dog on cctv with the owner very clearly visible, we are talking mug shot quality! They haven't been able to do anything 🤦🏼‍♀️

Seaweed42 · 13/04/2024 14:16

I get your annoyance but it's damage to the car for which you are liable.

Do you want your children frightened by someone throwing an egg at your front door? Potentially that's what could happen if someone saw you.

There's not much of a message in a egg, is there?
It's not verbalising your feelings. It's acting out.
It's emotional immaturity.

Why not direct your anger in another direction such as getting the licence plate and emailing the local council?

Or find a traffic warden and report it to them.

Or leave a note saying in the note that you have reported the licence plate to local police station?

Redcarsontv · 13/04/2024 14:17

The neighbourhood kids egged my mums car one Halloween. Damaged the paint work quite badly ( I think it got baked on in the sun a or something, dad was not happy).

I understand why you did it, but I hope it doesn’t get on the paintwork.

edited to say, I just double checked and unfortunately it’s true.

oakleaffy · 13/04/2024 14:34

“There's not much of a message in a egg, is there? “

But one heck of a lot of MESS 🥚🥚🥚

@Simplepink I applaud your action- So many times selfish ass-wholes park massive vehicles right across or on pavements-

An egg is much less damaging than a scratch.

It ought to be illegal to block pavements with vehicles.

thoseinperil · 13/04/2024 14:36

Are you completely out of your mind? Why would you do that ?

I'm insanely jealous of the policing in your area which gives you those expectations.

BoohooWoohoo · 13/04/2024 14:54

Yanbu to be mad at the littering and parking but your response is ridiculous. I hope that the driver didn’t have an egg allergy although there is part of me who would think karma.
I’ve seen posts on here where people used Vaseline or stickier substances that can’t be dealt with the windscreen wipers and I don’t recall as much judgement as this thread.

EveryoneJapan · 13/04/2024 15:00

Achieved nothing and meant you immediately abdicated the moral high ground - eggs are also a nightmare to clean off, especially when dried, so might even have delayed their departure. A dick move all round.

Stickysusan · 13/04/2024 15:31

All is well until you get a brick through your window

HauntedBungalow · 13/04/2024 15:31

Andthereyougo · 13/04/2024 13:17

Stupid thing to do. You could have rung 101 with the reg number. They access DVLA and if a phone number is known police call owner and tell them to move it or they’ll get a ticket.

Agree.

Or, as in our area, ring the council and they send round someone to ticket within 45 minutes.

You can't go damaging people's cars. And in these days of dashcams and ring cams etc if you do you'll usually getting caught.

So funny if you genuinely think the police will do anything in this kind of situation!!

It IS illegal to obstruct a pavement or footpath. Trouble is getting the police to do anything about it.

HauntedBungalow · 13/04/2024 15:51

Ime they do act pretty quick about it. It's an easy win for them.

Datgal · 13/04/2024 15:51

Fuck it op. I'm with you. Plenty of self entitled lazy twats. Really annoys me.
Just near me, there is a blind lady who has a new guide dog. He's having difficulty leading her safely across the road as there is always somebody parked on the end of the road (on double yellows, dropped curb with tactiles). They nip to the shop on same road, but friggin stupid and lazy. So because of this, dog can't find the tactiles to cross and she can't train him properly. People don't think about the selfish actions and what affect this has on other people.

Why on earth wouldn't they?
Its an easy ticket and a tick in the box for their crime solving stats.

The time I phoned them to report similar they were there within 15min. It put a stop to the selfishness.

Edited

They don't even come out for more serious crimes around here, i.e. burglaries, minor non injury car accidents blocking the road, vandalism in progress, etc. I've reported several crimes including abandoned vehicles and vehicles causing obstructions and they're just not interested.

peakygold · 13/04/2024 16:19

What a disgusting waste of food.

Cherry8809 · 13/04/2024 16:20

Are you this immature in other areas of your life too?

If I was your DH, you’d have seriously given me the ick.

Are you ok…? Do you need an adult? Grow up

Gingerkittykat · 13/04/2024 16:23

Not RTFT but what will you do if the selfish driver has dashcam footage of you throwing the eggs at his car?
