Was I wrong to egg the car?!

Simplepink · 13/04/2024 06:11

I stand by my convictions and don’t think I was wrong but interested to hear what other people think.
my husband thinks a note would’ve sufficed.

so we live right next to a public footpath which leads up to accommodation for lots of elderly people.

yesterday I noticed a car had blocked the entrance to this footpath which is clearly marked as to be kept clear at all times.
asked around neighbours, no one knew the cars owner.
waited a good couple of hours, person still hasn’t returned to car.
Many elderly people with walking aides struggling to get past. Anyone with a wheelchair wouldn’t be able to.

i had already left a note on the car but realised the owner would return, rumple up the note and not be slightly inconvenienced. . . . Sooo I egged the car windscreen. (Yes I know I’m clearly 12 years old/it’s a very minor criminal offence etc)
But my logic is that this person was therefore also mildly inconvenienced as retribution for their blasé attitude to others.

YABU to egg the car
YANBU to egg the car

(disclaimer this may be completely hypothetical and there’s no proof I am the neighbour who egged the car!)

ridiculous thing to do. Moronic.

Boofay · 13/04/2024 16:33

Our house was egged at Halloween by some pubescent boys. I thought it was hilarious! Washed off easily and no harm was done. Will make sure we have more sweets next time! 😬

I'm glad you mildly inconvenienced this very inconsiderate parker.

Seashor · 13/04/2024 16:37

You were wrong but good on you. Recently I witnessed an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair unable to stay on the path because a knob had parked on the pavement. A good egging would have been very satisfying.

Livelaughllama · 13/04/2024 16:43

Yeah you were wrong.... but... good for you. I like your act of rebellion. Hope they think twice now about their dick-move parking.

BrainWontWorkAnymore · 13/04/2024 17:11

Very unreasonable. Have called the police for this, they attended. Has caused damage to my car & front door. 2 wrongs do not make a right

Act of rebellion? Unless OP is 5 the only thing this so called ‘act’ was is pathetic and juvenile

penjil · 13/04/2024 13:25

Well, I'm glad you did it. They may think twice about where they park next time. 👍

What makes you think they will even link the egg on the windscreen to blocking the drive.
It's more likely that it will have absolutely no impact.

Anotherparkingthread · 13/04/2024 17:28

Tbh I think the egg was too minor. If you have a dog and you pick up it's shit in a bag, you can run it under the driver's side door handle. Absolutely definately make no mistakes they will know it's because they wete parked like a twat.

Daphnis156 · 13/04/2024 17:30

It sounds like you are a real busybody, and well on the way to being a Karen.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 13/04/2024 09:01

The sanctimony on this thread is hilarious. There are not enough pearls in the world to clutch that would satisfy MN.

Agree.

I wouldn't have the balls to do it myself, OP, but imo your feelings were justified, and you were right about the note. I'd probably have taken a few photos and left a note stating I had photos and was going to bring the matter to the attention of the police if I saw the car parked there again.

For the future, would the senior living establishment be willing to pay for a set of cones or petition the council to set some poles into the street to allow pedestrian access while deterring parking? Or would the council be willing to put up cameras and issue tickets? Making seniors and people in wheelchairs take an alternative route to their home might involve danger from traffic.

Teentaxidriver · 13/04/2024 18:01

Well, I would have done the same thing. A note is meaningless. People who park inconsiderately deserve what they get. I hope it was a nightmare to clean up.

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 13/04/2024 09:17

Of course YABU, YABVU.
Are you aware how hard it is to get egg off?
You sound very petty and/or slightly unhinged.

That's rather the point of the egg - it is hard to get off...

Teentaxidriver · 13/04/2024 18:02

Others might have keyed it or smeared dog poo on it. A egg is pretty tame tbh.

lemonmeringueno3 · 13/04/2024 18:25

Oh op how could you.

Now you are a criminal, a vandal, an idiot, a moron, on the brink of a mid life crisis, childish, a terrible role model and so on.

Don't you know they only parked there due to a life-threatening emergency, and soon you will finish them off due to their very serious egg allergy?

You should have called the police, who would've been there within 15 mins to sort all of this out properly.

Instead, you have killed an innocent person with an egg allergy, caused criminal damage and - if anyone has caught it on cctv - put yourself in serious jeopardy.

MN is like a parallel universe sometimes.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 13/04/2024 18:40

I think you’re the greatest. Well done.

KimFan · 13/04/2024 18:50

You’re deranged.

Begaydocrime94 · 13/04/2024 18:56

Fair play for actually doing that! It’s so selfish, like those people that park really far into the pavement so that if anyone in a wheelchair or with a pram was walking by they couldn’t get through. It’s completely inconsiderate and ableist, they deserved to get their car egged 💯

@Kellogg1 "Awful isn’t it. If you dm OP they might be able scrape the egg into a bowl and put it to one side for you?"

You need help!

I wouldn’t imagine it will take more than one to scrape the egg. No help necessary but thank you. Very kind.

HeadsShouldersTitsandArse · 15/04/2024 11:38

Can’t wait for your son to be 14 egging cars out on some poor bugger estate.

I live on a estate where there a handful of absolute dickhead children (have recent just broken into one of the vacant houses and trashed it.. we’re talking child ages 11/12), at first I was shocked but I’ve seen how he parents behave and it’s definitely a learned behaviour.

do better for the sake of your children OP. Because one day he’ll poss off the wrong person, and so might you,

LiterallyOnFire · 15/04/2024 13:52

Fascinating - and disappointing- that most people are more outraged by the egging than by the access-blocking parking.

Disadvantaging the disabled, elderly and parents of toddlers clearly is seen as less antisocial than an egg on a car.

TBF that's mostly because the egger is the one posting.

Try posting a 'I parked to block access to the disabled, elderly and parents of toddlers' thread and see how long it takes for you to be called a selfish CF Smile

Well, I'm glad you did it. They may think twice about where they park next time. 👍

Same here.

I hate the selfish fuckers who park like this. We have a similar situation near me where wheelchair users/residents with walking frames have to go into the road to get by. It's so bloody dangerous.

I always make sure my bag scrapes into their paintwork when I have to squeeze through the gap. If I had an egg with me, I'd gladly smear it on their windscreen. It's the least they deserve.

Good on you OP.
