To take a bin?

I live in an apartment block there is 3 apartments and we share 3 bins between us all we all use all the bins rather than have one each.
But I'm the only one that takes them out and gets them back in. Every single week if I don't take them they don't get taken out.
Although this week someone did bring one of the 3 back.

AIBU if I write my number on one of them and just use that one ? And only take my own bins out.
At the moment it has all 3 numbers on 148-150
They will probably still use mine anyway but worth a try ?

Number them all - and then only take yours out.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 12/04/2024 17:46

Nobody takes them out because they’re used to you doing. I would stop taking them out for a few weeks, yes it will mean rubbish piled up for a bit and probably be unpleasant but hopefully it will spur someone else on to take them out eventually and hopefully that will then stick.

Number them all - and then only take yours out.

Yes this is a good idea.

I think in all honesty OP, that you'll be wasting your time and effort, as everyone has clearly got used to using all 3 bins, and will continue to put rubbish in yours regardless.

Crumpleton · 12/04/2024 17:58

I'd clean the numbers off of one bin and put only my number back on..
Just be aware that you may need, if you can buy them in your area, a bin lid lock as your neighbours may get wise and fill your bin up first.

BettyShagter · 12/04/2024 18:00

Do you all own your apartments?

Could you suggest to them all that you have a bin each and number them all accordingly?

QuestionableMouse · 12/04/2024 18:01

I did, and put a bin lock on it.

wplaf · 12/04/2024 18:07

I would get some vinyl stick numbers online and really clearly label both the lid and the body front and body back of each bin, making one for each apartment and then just put yours out and in

I'd talk to them first and see if they'd like to have a rota so you each take all the bins every three collections
