Is it a lot?

Twenty minutes there in the morning, twenty minutes home.
Twenty minutes there in the afternoon, twenty minutes walk back

With a 5 year old

Is it a lot or average?

Just look on google maps... you can get directions from your house to the school, and it will tell you how many miles it is.

You should aim to walk at a speed of 3.5. - 4 miles per hour for it to be classed as a moderate intensity exercise… do you have a smartphone or watch that you can monitor your speed on…then you can see if you need to speed up a bit on the parts when you walk alone… if you are doing that twice daily you will burn calories (and benefit from all of the other benefits of moderate intensity exercise) just be sure to get yourself some good footwear as this will help with the enjoyment
