To expect mobile hairdressers to sweep the floor of hairs?

She charged salon prices. DD had to have her hair washed and ready. I had to provide a chair. I kept a broom and duster and pan in the room. It was hard flooring. Was it too much to expect her to sweep the cut hair and place in bin?
This was the first time having a mobile hair dresser so don't know the norm

I wouldn’t expect them to clean up in my house

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/04/2024 18:49

I wouldn't expect that. It's your house

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 08/04/2024 18:49

No this was one of the reasons I stopped using my mobile hairdresser - once her prices were the same / higher than salon prices & i still had to sweep up my own hair afterwards I decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.

Shinyandnew1 · 08/04/2024 18:50

We have a mobile hairdresser-I wouldn’t expect her to sweep up! I do that when she‘s gone. She’s cheaper than going to a salon though.

What were you charged?

Harvestfestivalknickers · 08/04/2024 18:50

I wouldn't expect her to sweep up but I wouldn't expect to pay salon prices either.

chopc · 08/04/2024 18:59

OK thanks everyone! Now I know, I can manage my expectations for the future

My mobile hairdresser always sweeps up when she's finished. I was really surprised but she's always insistent that she does it

MsFogi · 08/04/2024 19:03

I wouldn't expect her to sweep. But I also wouldn't expect to pay salon prices either.

AppleKatie · 08/04/2024 19:03

Ime some do and some don’t.

mine doesn’t, which is fine because the cut costs a third of what it would in a salon. If it didn’t I would reevaluate…

HauntedPencil · 08/04/2024 19:07

No and it's why I stopped using one, having such a hairy floor.

buswankerz · 08/04/2024 19:07

My mobile hairdresser sweeps up my hair.

HauntedPencil · 08/04/2024 19:08

Mine wasn't too far off a salon price but the quid pro quo is usually that it's cheaper but you have to use your own shampoos wash your hair ready not get a tea and biscuit and get left with a furry floor!

Northernsouloldies · 08/04/2024 19:11

I put down a cheap decorating poly sheet 75p and it's easy gathered up when done.minimal sweep up on hard floor in kitchen.

minisoksmakehardwork · 08/04/2024 19:15

If you're paying salon prices, I'd want them to clear up as well.

I grew up with a mobile hairdresser cutting my hair. We just chucked a tablecloth under the chair and then threw it on the garden when done. Hoovered after as hoovering a whole haircut clogs the vacuumed.

SeeingRainbowsInTheGloom · 08/04/2024 19:18

Like a PP, mine charges a third the salon price so I'm very happy to spend 30 seconds sweeping up!

CranfordScones · 08/04/2024 19:21

Not in my experience. Householder does the clean up.

Neverthetwainshall · 08/04/2024 19:22

If she's charging salon prices ,using your electric and supping your brews then yes. Howeverrrrr, mine charges approx 100£ less than salon so I sweep my hair up takes a minute 🤷

Cuwins · 08/04/2024 19:23

Never occurred to me that ours would clean up

bluetopazlove · 08/04/2024 19:23

Thing is if you go to a salon you won't find the stylist sweeping the floor , so yeah I think it's a bit much to expect your stylist to sweep your floor .

Floralnomad · 08/04/2024 19:23

Ours doesn’t clear up . I’m not sure ‘salon prices’ can be said about hairdressers as it varies from salon to salon / person to person .

5128gap · 08/04/2024 19:24

My mum's used to say 'Have you got a broom?' To which mum would reply 'Don't be daft, it'll only take me a minute.... Ooh that's lovely Jen!' To which Jen would say 'Are you sure...?' And Mum would say 'Don't be daft, get off with you'. I genuinely believe Jen would have done it if allowed though. If you're anywhere near Wolverhampton..I think she's still going...?

Linedbook · 08/04/2024 19:24

I wouldn't expect them to clean up. I would expect them to be cheaper than a salon though. Are you sure she charged salon prices? They've gone up massively since covid, round here. Ordinary places £40ish, fancy salon £58 for cut and finish.

chopc · 08/04/2024 19:44

She charged £40 which is the same as the place I usually go to. And they have a special offer on a Thursday for £29.50. There are other salons that charge more but it was just a trim - any trained hair dresser would have been able to do it IMO.

Mine doesn’t but she’s definitely cheaper than a salon.

If she charges the same as a salon, go and get the salon experience! £40 is a lot for a trim by a mobile hairdresser (unless you live in london).
