Lazy feckless leeching relatives. Sound familiar?

As the title says. Bone-idle, irresponsible and entitled adult couple (40/50)…
Examples:

  • in bed until midday
  • live on benefits, have done for years
  • constantly leech off friends and relatives
  • will text/ask unbelievable requests such as Have you got any mugs, we’ve only got one left/have you got a couple of tea towels to spare/have you got any a few knives and forks, we don’t know where our have gone?
  • Even holidays: We heard you have booked a cottage/caravan in X. We’ve got a good idea - we can visit you for a few days
  • they attend all family meals, never reciprocate, always come empty- handed
This is a select few examples. There are dozens more. Some far worse. I used to help out but I gave up a few years ago when I realised I was simply seen as part of their support group and regarded as one of their ‘providers’. I am now NC except for family gatherings. I refuse to be one of their providers. I cannot believe people live like this and are so ungrateful and entitled. Anyone else have shameless, freeloading relatives?

Hope you said no

I did. Have had many, many texts in the past 10 mins about it. It is always because she needs to go shopping or needs to do housework. What actually happens is neither of those things and she will just sit and watch movies all day. Ive said take him shopping. A child doesnt get to say no to things you need to do. So apparently she is asking her mil instead now. I would bet my house on her not stepping foot inside a shop or even lifting a finger at home to clean it when he has gone to his grans.

I danno, some people are like that otherwise we wouldn’t have convictions for benefits fraud. OP’s allowed to moan about people trying to sponge off her. I’d find it annoying. I have someone in my family who was on benefits off and on, genuinely sick and they never behaved in an entitled way.

Yes I am sure there are many people like your family member who are genuinely sick and not entitled. Some people ( not you, Noicant) have interpreted my post as benefit-bashing which it isn’t. How can you build up a picture without including some details?
In fact, when they were working they lived with another relative, paid very little towards board and lodging, went on holidays abroad and basically fleeced the relative.

@LakieLady why would they need a walking stick for mental health? Hmm

LadyKenya · 08/04/2024 11:30

Why? Do you think that would make them suddenly see things differently? You can word things how you please, and I will do the same, thank you!

It was just an opinion and I thank you for yours.

That added nothing to the discussion, and was policing my tone, which was uncalled for.

Ooh it's been ages since we had a benefits bashing thread

And they are FAT too you say? WOW gosh we must have such a slack benefits system if people can claim benefits so easily...

I would be shocked but i was expecting this because my carers allowance has gone up this week by about four pounds which will pay for my holidays in no time! I now get £81 a week for providing over 35 hours care I get bit scratched yelled at I get to clean up piss and shit on repeat but I'm really living my dream arnt I!

Call me kerazzy - but I don't think the OP was talking about YOU. Unless she has outed herself and you know her, and you are feckless and lazy? I doubt the OP even knows you, yet you have taken this so personally.

Why do people have to make threads about themselves?

TorroFerney · 08/04/2024 12:27

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 08/04/2024 10:23

Sorry, I'm not sure what you are trying to say?

That they are really fat which is causing their health conditions.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 08/04/2024 12:37

Yes I had a mil who never puts her hand I. Her pocket for meals out but can afford too and her dd is trying to blag a wedding outfit off the man getting married. Their just blatant about it too.

Or that their health conditions are causing their weight gain?

Doesnt everyone have that mug 😂

yes i have a relative like this. They both work though, low wage and not full time. Not entitled to benefits though. He has had many, many jobs but cannot be arsed, goes off sick for months, then quits. Both are very lazy. Never have any money but wouldn't occur to either to do more hours. They both have the opportunity to work more but have no interest in it. Constantly trying to have other people take their dc too.

They sound awful and what awful role models for their DC. I find it very tiresome when some MNs quickly question people’s mental/emotional health. Some people are simply lazy takers.

Yes, it’s their glands: their salivary glands 🤣

Yep but thankfully I'm not a sibling so I hear about it but far enough away genetically to go 'la la la'

SwordToFlamethrower · 08/04/2024 13:08

Ever heard of invisible disabilities?

You sound like a nasty, ablist person op.

I sleep in till midday sometimes. I am broke and need help sometimes. I have disordered eating.

I've been seen smiling. I recently went to alton towers.

I have ptsd, cptsd, asd, gad and adhd.

Am I a benefits scrounger op? Am I scum of the earth too?

LadyKenya · 08/04/2024 13:15

Ilovecleaning · 08/04/2024 13:06

Yes, it’s their glands: their salivary glands 🤣

There are how many people out there, who have been disabled by a condition, accident, or through having to take medication, who have had an unwelcome weight gain, and are not able to do much about it. I would not have thought that was something to make a joke of.

Lurker85 · 08/04/2024 13:18

Why are people giving the OP such a hard time about invisible disabilities etc and lending different theories as to why they are how they are? They are her family so she will know all this. They’re not strangers so she doesn’t need to hear your speculations when she knows the facts. She isn’t judging everyone on benefits, just the 2 she knows very well, so there is no need to jump down her throat and start defending every possible scenario when she’s only referencing the one - the one she knows better than everyone on here.

But I'm on benefits? And I'm a bit fat so surely I'm just like everyone else what makes me so special that I don't deserve judgement just like everyone else?

EnglishBluebell · 08/04/2024 14:30

@Ilovecleaning Many people are overweight for medical reasons. Prescribed steroids/thyroid issues etc. Let's not fat shame people just because you dislike them

Whataweirdsituation · 08/04/2024 14:34

Oh I know that kind of family - its mine 😂I grew up with a mum who was on benefits and hasn't worked a day in her life, regularly spending all our money on 'fun' stuff and having nothing left to buy food - it was the most embarrassing thing in the world, especially the scrounging for money from hard working people who wouldn't DREAM of spending on the 'fun' stuff we did. Just knowing what everyone was thinking about us😖

It's funny because both me and my sister now work our socks off and although I was entitled to Child Benefit for a good while for my son, I deliberately didn't claim it because I couldn't bear the thought of 'being on benefits'.

TBH, I'm not sure if you are being serious or not.

People can weight for various reasons and as I touched on earlier and now others have said it, it could be due to medicals

Either way and the bottom line, you, us dont know what their health is and IMO, the thread could have done without mentioning "benefits"

I know of older people who have joint problems and we all have to eat and due to lack of mobility, they put on weight and more weight, its a vicious circle. Waiting times for joint replacement si long and then the operation can only go ahead if one is realtively fit - its truly a vicious circle

Agreed and I urge people not to judge them by their appearance.

AdoraBell · 08/04/2024 15:02

Same here. Relatives owned a shop in town, closed at 11am because they went to pub for “lunch” every day. Then shocked when they lost the business. They’re DC now in they’re 40’s. Neither ever worked, one spends all day online gaming and smoking weed. Other had a child so “can’t work”. That child has left home but the parent still says they’re raising the child so can’t be expected to work.
