Neighbour problems

Saffy118 · 07/04/2024 20:21

My neighbour came on to my property whilst I was away and put poison to stop bugs going to their property. I’m furious as I have pets. My husband thinks I’m overreacting. Aibu?

OP posts:
FloofCloud · 07/04/2024 21:36

Just tell them - you triggered the CCTV and saw what you've done, please don't come on to our property without permission and I don't want poison on my property

JayAlfredPrufrock · 07/04/2024 21:46

I’ve had a couple of ladybirds in the house recently.

What harm do they do?

PinkIcedCream · 07/04/2024 22:06

Are you in the UK?

Noseybookworm · 07/04/2024 22:59

I would tell them if they ever set foot on your property and put down poison again you'll report them to the police. The bloody cheek of them!

MrBallensWife · 07/04/2024 23:27

Saffy118 · 07/04/2024 20:33

A very common bug but I don’t want to be too outing

Is this bug only native to your street?🐜

Pleasemakeitcorrect · 07/04/2024 23:27

Ladybirds. WTF? I can't believe they'd need killing. Honestly. Why can't we live and let live. Unless it's a risk to health.
I didn't think woodlouse killer was a thing either.... what harm are they? I'm genuinely asking as not aware of anything bad about woodlouse or ladybird.

ManchesterLu · 07/04/2024 23:29

Pinkpinkpink15 · 07/04/2024 20:34

If it's that common it's not going to be outing is it?

what Have you done to prevent them going into their house

A common bug isn't going to be outing is it, behave.

Runnerinthenight · 07/04/2024 23:31

Your neighbour is off their fucking head!!! Who kills ladybirds??!

I would be off the scale furious at them trespassing on your property, and putting down any sort of poison.

I'd also tell them I'd report to the police if they ever set foot on my property again!

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 08/04/2024 05:02

Ladybirds are lovely and as kids we loved to see them and enjoyed seeing a few last summer, never heard of there been so many anyone would consider them a problem. I thought it would be ants as I lived in a place in London and the ants from Spring onwards was unreal. Tried everything but could not get rid as guess houses were built on their homes.
I would go and talk to the neighbour calmly and tell them you are not happy at all at what they did and should not have and will never enter your property again or put anything down that is dangerous to your pets.
If they get anyway funny at all tell them it will be a police matter. Shocking that anyone things can do this.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 08/04/2024 05:03

Also tell your husband you do not need his permission to talk to the neighbours.

HoppingPavlova · 08/04/2024 05:36

wtf, who wants to kill ladybirds? Have I missed something over the years, have they turned into rampaging man-eaters or something? Bizarre. I’d respond they are not to trespass on your property in the future and are not to put poison on your property via any means (such as dropping over fence from their side).

BMW6 · 08/04/2024 07:32

Right, your neighbour is seriously batshit. Ladybirds eat aphids (greenfly) which destroy plants, so they're trying to kill Allies, not Enemies.

Why don't you just tell them that you are really angry about their trespass on your property and their threat to your pets welfare. If they don't apologise and acknowledge that they were wrong to do this I'd speak to Police.

Your pets could be seriously hurt by their stupidity. This needs to be treated seriously.

Nicole1111 · 08/04/2024 07:39

It’s massively inappropriate. Highlight that if you see them do it again you’ll report them to the police for trespassing because of the risk to your pets and highlight that if your pets get sick you would pursue a legal case for the thousands and thousands it would likely cost to treat them, if they survived.

Between the messy 16 year old thread that's apparently the OP's fault . . . and these killer ladybugs . . . MN you have broken me. All sorts of crazy be out tonight

And if the OP’s pets inject it and die it still funny?

It is actually completely unacceptable.

Shan5474 · 08/04/2024 08:00

Is there really a poison that kills only woodlice or only ladybirds? That works outside? And the problem is so bad that they have to treat neighbour’s gardens too?
Ladybirds actually eat small insects that can harm plants, some people with a big houseplant collection buy ladybirds to live inside their house.

Your neighbour sounds like a major CF for entering your property, using poison when you have pets but most of all for killing beneficial insects. I don’t believe this can be the first problem you’ve had with the neighbour

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 08/04/2024 08:06

Why the fuck would you kill ladybirds?
Who is going to eat her aphids.

knob.

id be really annoyed

olympicsrock · 08/04/2024 08:11

Although OP is annoyingly evasive, the neighbours were so wrong !
What do you want to do OP?

I would speak to them first and unleash fury.
not message , actually Speak!

Teddleshon · 08/04/2024 08:12

Every year we have an absolute massive invasion of ladybirds around now. I’ve tried everything but the most effective thing to stop them coming into the house is to open all the windows. They’re seeking warmth so open windows stops this. Apparently they are drawn to white / pale south facing exteriors.

I would be really surprised if laying down or spraying poison outside would have any impact whatsoever.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 08/04/2024 08:38

Saffy118 · 07/04/2024 20:37

It’s a common bug that lives in everyone’s garden. It’s not for me to stop them entering anyone’s home. If they enter my home however as they do from time to time I deal with it in my home. I wouldn’t dream of going into someone else’s property to scatter poison around without asking

Ok whatever.

report/don't report, but if you do report they're going to ask you the same questions & you're going to have to stop being so weird about it.

In this case, revealing the type of bug might actually prove outing because it is such an unusual reaction to ladybirds.

🐞 🐞 🐞 are a popular theme in children's books and clothing etc. I don't recall woodlice being given such a positive image.

Even the harlequin ones are a bonus to gardeners! I would be really annoyed in OP's shoes but as they are usually good neighbours I would endeavour to remain calm and remind them of the risk to pets and wildlife whilst also trying to change their view of the poor ladybirds.

OlympicProcrastinator · 08/04/2024 08:40

Don’t worry OP. I’ll go and have a word with them.
I’ve figured out where you live by the description of ‘ladybirds in garden’.

Churchview · 08/04/2024 09:10

Ladybirds help control greenfly and black fly.

Nobody needs to use any insect killer. If you leave nature to it predators will come in and deal with the things that are a problem in your garden.

Every time you spray your garden you are wasting your money on harmful chemicals which just upset the balance of nature and ensure that next year you'll see the same pests and go and spend more money on chemicals.

The rows of pest killers in the supermarket and garden centre are there to make money for chemical companies and damage our already struggling wildlife.

Poison woodlice and you poison the hedgehogs, robins and blue tits that eat them .
Poison slugs and you poison the the toads and hedgehogs that eat them.

Please, please, please don't use these chemicals.

PoppyCherryDog · 08/04/2024 09:56

I’d be fuming! Why do they think they can come onto your property uninvited? Did you catch on camera what they’ve done?

Also why ladybirds? Do people actually kill ladybirds!! :(

This.

encourage nature to look after themselves.

i know someone who got rid of the badgers because they dug up their lawn. Now they are struggling to get rid of the insects ruining their lawn.

it’s almost.

almost like the two are linked

Is it ants?

If so I think I know where you live. 😉
