..to hope that DH's sponge cake, which he is making atm, is as flat as a pancake, because he wanted the DS's to help but all he is doing is yelling and I'm not allowed to help because HE WANTS TO MAKE IT!!!!

Or is that really mean?

A little bit of me says: YANBU and enjoy the mess while it lasts

But part of me also says: let him get on with it and hope that it works a treat so that he will get off his bm and do more in future... or is the latter (his getting off his bm) too much to ask?

oxocube · 29/03/2008 18:49

YANBU

3NAB · 29/03/2008 18:51

YABU from the point of view the kids will be disappointed if it doesn't work out properly.

I made a cake with my 3 this morning too.

Squirdle · 29/03/2008 18:53

Ah but NAB the kids won't care as long as it vaguely resembles a cake!

I did offer to help...it was rejected. I can hear him whisking away madly which means it will be flat. I think I'm right in saying you have to be very gentle to get a light sponge....we may have a few new frizbees

It's the moaning at the kids which is bugging me. They aren't having fun, they are just being moaned at!!

DS3 (aged 3) has just left the kitchen saying 'I going to play, cheerio'

YABU, and mean.

You object to him doing something successfully with your kids, why?

hecate · 29/03/2008 21:07

aw it's not nice of him to moan at the kids - it sucks the fun out of it!

Flamesparrow · 29/03/2008 21:23

Awww

sparklyshoos · 29/03/2008 21:48

squirdle, please come back and tell us how the cake turned out?

MsPontipine · 29/03/2008 21:57

I really struggle to keep calm while baking with DS (5) My mum is fab at doing stuff with him. I just get cross, impatient, hot, bothered and shouty. I'm working on it and make myself do it with him as much as I can to work at improving my control-freak eeeeek-eeeeek-eeeeeek!! To some it comes really naturally (my mum) other have to work at it - me and your DH!! It'll do him good. Hopefully he'll get better.
Enjoy your cake!

Squirdle · 30/03/2008 17:14

Maisemor - I wasn't being totally serious about it

The cake was very nice actually. It was a cake for a friends surprise 40th party we were doing today and everyone enjoyed it - tho we had lots of cream in the sunken middle bit

DH and I have been laughing about his stressful cooking experience today - apparently it was my fault for finding a complicated recipe
