AIBU that DH and I are too sick to eat McDonalds ?

DH and I are driving 6 hours to spend a week with his parents to help them with the house, medical appointments, etc. We were too sick to travel yesterday but have to go today as we have the plumber coming (to his parents') first thing tomorrow.

Typically when we do this trip without the DC* we stop for a McDonald's when we wee and change drivers. It's like a little treat before we spend a week of DIY, cleaning, etc. DH loves McDonald's, but otherwise we eat home cooked food.

AIBU to be a bit sad that we are both too ill to eat today, esp. as the drive will be a bit of a struggle / more tiring given that we're both feeling a bit crap?

She's not the said they've got the same thing. It's quite possible that she's having a bad period and he's got ulcerative colitis, no?

Do some periods stop you eating Macdo? I’ve heard not swimming , even not having a bath… but never no McDonald’s!

Calliopespa · 07/04/2024 17:14

This must be an archetypal first world problem.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 07/04/2024 17:17

You shouldnt go to elderly parents if you’re too ill to eat food. Junk food like that won’t help you recover.

You're lucky if you've never had a period that's made you feel sick/have diarrhea. It's reasonably common.

Mulhollandmagoo · 07/04/2024 17:21

To be fair, I've had sick bugs where I am past the 48 hour mark with no diarrhoea or sickness, but I still feel a bit rubbish and my tummy still feels a bit delicate so I don't want to brave heavy food for a day or so!

OP, have it on the way home? Chances are you'll be ravenous by then if you've not eaten much.

Delphiniumandlupins · 07/04/2024 17:29

One word. McFlurry.

PonyPatter44 · 07/04/2024 17:32

Have the maccys on the way back. I would actually have to be dead not to fancy nuggets, though.

If anything they make me comfort eat. I guess we are all different. But I really have never heard of losing appetite .

saveforthat · 07/04/2024 17:37

I bet it's not a hangover. The only time I fancy fast food is when I have a hangover

Yup. And I get hangover hungry.

Just goes to show that just because we haven't heard of something doesn't mean it doesn't happen/exist.

There's a few posters here who have apparently never heard of a non-contagious illness except a hangover!

Every day's a school day!

Are you op's spokesperson? Maybe you should let her talk for herself?

missin · 07/04/2024 17:54

So basically you aren't that sick but you are feeling against adding fast food on top?

And risked AIBU to mention that 😂 okay...

The McDonalds Coke Zero is my go to for nausea 😅

BobbyBiscuits · 07/04/2024 17:59

Surely you can force down a few nuggets? It's not good to eat nothing when your not well. Even just a milkshake or ice-cream? It might cheer you up!

If the OP wants to be more specific with what ails her and her husband I'm sure she will be.

In the meantime, I'm perfectly comfortable pointing out that illnesses do exist that occupy the space between contagious illness and hangovers.

Of course they do. The OP said she and her other half had been sick, it was a reasonable assumption to make that they’d both had the same thing.

Clafoutie · 07/04/2024 18:42

This is a very strange thread! I can only think the OP is trying to avoid being criticised for potentially infecting other people, otherwise, why not just put an end to people’s speculation and say what it is ( and therefore why it isn’t contagious)?! 🤔

48 hours is just a guide though, it doesn’t mean you can’t still infect others.

Initially, yes. Once the OP had explained that they were neither contagious nor hungover it was unreasonable to continue to dispute this on the grounds that the only possible explanation was a hangover or a bug/virus.

newidentiy · 07/04/2024 18:56

Yet another obviously meant to be a lighthearted thread derailed

Ffs the op does not have to say what is wrong with her and why do you all care so much ffs

To be fair it isn’t a hugely meaty thread conceptually speaking. I guess people dig around for something to exercise their opinion on.

One the one hand it isn’t, a moan about missing a fast food treat.
I was more concerned about two adults driving a long way whilst feeling unwell enough to not eat properly. And visiting elderly parents with the tail end of an illness (which the OP says now is not contagious but you can understand why that became a focus).

Combattingthemoaners · 07/04/2024 19:05

Is this a serious post? 🙃 I’d say you’re doing okay in life if this is your biggest concern.

Possibly! Who knows?! It does seem an odd topic to argue with an OP about.

I think it's fairly natural to wonder what could be wrong that would allow a couple to travel six hours in a car to visit elderly relatives but be too ill for McDonalds.
None of my business of course as several posters have already pointed out.
