AIBU that DH and I are too sick to eat McDonalds ?

Meganmeccano · 07/04/2024 11:27

DH and I are driving 6 hours to spend a week with his parents to help them with the house, medical appointments, etc. We were too sick to travel yesterday but have to go today as we have the plumber coming (to his parents') first thing tomorrow.

Typically when we do this trip without the DC* we stop for a McDonald's when we wee and change drivers. It's like a little treat before we spend a week of DIY, cleaning, etc. DH loves McDonald's, but otherwise we eat home cooked food.

AIBU to be a bit sad that we are both too ill to eat today, esp. as the drive will be a bit of a struggle / more tiring given that we're both feeling a bit crap?

Hangover? Otherwise, you can't possibly tell you're not contagious.

Yes I assumed a hangover if you’ve both got the same symptoms (but without any contagion). Why not say that then? Recovery from a hangover has different timescales than being sick which is what you said in the OP.

Excited101 · 07/04/2024 14:57

Food poisoning can be contagious if it’s that op.

mynameiscalypso · 07/04/2024 14:58

I assume hungover too (from my experience yesterday 😂)

Oh no! Could you buy a new book on the way?

We didn't stop on our way this time but I have purchased a new cryptic puzzle book. By chance my particular favourite type of crossword puzzles were at a train station bookshop I happened to collecting of my DS's from. The JOY!!!!!

Hope you feel better soon and the week of sorting stuff/appointments goes well.

Thanks. Yes the joy of finding exactly what you want!

Neither of us is hungover! Nor do we have food poisoning.

So just say what's wrong with you. Why so coy?

ontheflighttosingapore · 07/04/2024 15:06

I don't understand your post tbh. Surely you have to eat ? Just get the food

ontheflighttosingapore · 07/04/2024 15:08

Then That only leaves a virus or bug so you are most likely contagious

Zanatdy · 07/04/2024 15:09

Everyone is just going to guess what you have that’s 100% not contagious and then OP will stop replying if not told within a few replies, pointless thread. Probably wouldn’t have been better waiting another 24hrs and travelling when well enough to get food of choice at services

What do you have?

Ivyy · 07/04/2024 15:22

No op not unreasonable at all to feel sad about missing out on your usual treat and part of your travelling routine.

Not sure why when you just asked a simple AIBU your thread's been derailed by questioning exactly why your stomach's feeling delicate / are you contagious / you must be contagious / you shouldn't be travelling etc. Going off on a tangent a bit!

Hope you feel better soon and can make up for it with a McDonald's on the way back instead Smile

Because it's an anonymous question on an anonymous forum specifically regarding health advice yet OP still refuses to disclose exactly what symptoms or condition they both suffered from.

Extremely attention seeking imo

Neither of us is contagious.

I am feeling much better today, but stomach a bit delicate hence no McDs, so for now I am driving. Yes, we will stop every 2 hours as usual, and yes we have both eaten bland food, we wouldn't drive on an empty stomach.

Isn’t McDonalds the blandest food known to mankind though? Even if you just got 🍟?

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 07/04/2024 15:49

@Meganmeccano how old are the elderly parents if they are unable to let the plumber in the house?

You think the only illnesses are contagious or a hangover?!

Might be worth thinking about that again.

You can't possibly believe the only causes of illness are a hangover, virus or bug?! Surely.

BreatheAndFocus · 07/04/2024 16:02

Norovirus? Highly infectious and rampant at the moment.

Just get something small or a drink. You can still stop and rest.

checkedshirts · 07/04/2024 16:03

What else then @NuffSaidSam for two people to have at the same time? Individually maybe- anything from a dodgy period to ulcerative colitis but I can't see what else would cause two individuals to be sick at the same time.

So both OP and her husband happen to have a chronic/autoimmune condition that flared at exactly the same time on the same day with identical symptoms. Or they both got carbon monoxide poisoning at the same time but this highly unusual scenario was considered too personal to mention on an anonymous forum?

ManchesterLu · 07/04/2024 16:04

YANBU for not wanting a McDonald's. YABU for travelling when you're clearly still unwell.

She's not the said they've got the same thing. It's quite possible that she's having a bad period and he's got ulcerative colitis, no?

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 07/04/2024 16:07

Just have a McDonald's on a different day? This is surely not a now or never situation, even if it is your usual travelling treat! Just promise yourselves you'll have a McDonald's night at home once you're both feeling better, and will be able to enjoy it more (plus you'll be able to relax at home and eat, rather than sitting in a stuffy car.)

Are you asking if two people in the same family can be ill at the same time with two different illnesses? Erm, yes. Yes they can.

I've only read the same information from the OP as you so I couldn't comment on whether they have autoimmune conditions or whether any flare ups have happened at exactly the same time.
