To get waterfall taps in my new bathroom?

justlliloleme · 06/04/2024 20:41

Finally getting rid of our crappy 20 year old bathroom. Went to chose everything today & choose waterfall taps for the basin & bath.

People are now telling me they’re rubbish, they dribble, they’re a nightmare to keep clean are a few comments.

Are they that bad? Should I change my mind?

YABU - get rid of the waterfall taps
YANBU - keep the waterfall taps

It be a big no from me. They are so hard to keep clean. Departs on your water though.

Mumaway · 06/04/2024 20:42

Limescale nightmare, and dribbly.

Tereseta · 06/04/2024 20:43

I wish I had listened when people told me they were awful. Both our basin and bath taps have broken and leak or don't shut off properly. Just saving to get them replaced after 3 years of leaks! Get a refund if you can and fit normal taps

Eloraa · 06/04/2024 20:43

If you’re in London (or other hard water area) they will be a limescaley mess within a month.

Haggisfish3 · 06/04/2024 20:43

They can also cause a water bounce out of your sink onto your crotch area (voice of bitter experience). Limesxale nightmare and im Not usually fussy about that sorry of thing.

fungibletoken · 06/04/2024 20:44

I'd only consider them if I lived in a soft water area. Otherwise they're a nightmare for timescale.

OperationalSupport · 06/04/2024 20:44

Our bathroom has them (I think - a wide spout the water flows along for a few inches before it goes into the basin/bath?)
They're awful but only because we live in a hard water area and the limescale crusts along the spout and is impossible to clean out. If I lived somewhere with no limescale they’d be fine.

KidsandKindness · 06/04/2024 20:45

I think based on the advice you've already received, that it might be best to return them and exchange for 'normal' taps, or if they've been ordered, ring and cancel the order OP, as otherwise you will end up being disappointed, which is the last thing you want having waited so long to replace your bathroom.

EveryoneJapan · 06/04/2024 20:45

As above, avoid them.

Also avoid wet room style showers. We have one and it looks absolutely amazing - in practice it’s a total nightmare, water goes everywhere - we’re having it replaced with a conventional cubicle.

Candleabra · 06/04/2024 20:46

Definitely don’t. I had some in my old house and I don’t think they’d been plumbed in properly. The water came out horizontally, drenching your lower half if stood at the sink. Worst taps I’ve ever had.

Tiredmum12389 · 06/04/2024 20:46

We had them, very hard water. I used limescale cleaner regularly and never had an issue. We were also told the same as you've been told but personally they were fine for us.

Justabadwife · 06/04/2024 20:47

My mum has just had a bathroom fitted 6 months ago and she got waterfall taps. Long story short she needs new taps.

catherinewales · 06/04/2024 20:48

We've had ours a year. They are a nightmare to clean but I still love them xx

Monkeybusiness09 · 06/04/2024 20:49

No , don't get them, leak and limescale.

LoobyDop · 06/04/2024 20:53

How bizarre. The last four bathrooms I’ve done have had waterfall taps, I love them and have never had any problems. Didn’t even know that limescale was an issue, but we live in a very soft water area.

Eleesah · 06/04/2024 20:55

Mine doesn’t do the waterfall thing because the plumber (after the fitting) said our water pressure is too low and some pipe is too narrow!

It also drivbles and is a nightmare to clean.

If you’re like me you’ll buy it anyway and regret it.

MathsMum3 · 06/04/2024 20:57

Had waterfall tap in family bathroom when refitted 3 years ago. Was never happy with it. Difficult to clean and hot/cold water mix not great. Recently replaced with regular tap, much better.

A factor may have been product quality. Can't remember what brand waterfall tap was, but replaced with Vado Ava tap which was fitted in our ensuite. Extremely pleased with Vado products and would highly recommend.

JosieRay · 06/04/2024 20:58

Avoid! We moved into a house with one in the downstairs cloakroom and if you turned it on full, the water hit the basin, bounced out and and reached the wall on the other side of the hall! It also soaked the front of your trousers! We had to continually warn guests. Got rid of it ASAP.

BlueJayCailin · 06/04/2024 20:59

Different topic, but don’t get a square toilet… nightmare to replace the seats and also not comfy. So annoyed we went for one!!

DaisyHaites · 06/04/2024 21:01

I’ve always wanted one, bought a house with one, absolutely hate it. There are many nice taps that are more practical!

NameChangedAgainn · 06/04/2024 21:01

I've never used a waterfall tap that hasn't had an issue.
They all either dribble or shoot water out so fast it bounces out of the sink and soaks the person trying to wash their hands. I stand to the side when turning them on now, and have soaked more than one restaurant bathroom with them.

CointreauVersial · 06/04/2024 21:02

We bought one for our new bathroom, but when we fitted it the water just splashed straight out and all over the person using the handbasin. It went back, and I'm now thinking we had a lucky escape!

Mindyourfunkybusiness · 06/04/2024 21:03

Check water hardness, in London within 24h of a clean they need a clean. And you can see it badly, as it's the whole like waterfall bit. I do like washing my hands with it, haven't had leak issue and bathroom is probs a decade old now? Or more. Oh and I have to use viakal or hg to get that limescale off so it's extra effort tbh

Mine are fine, I do use a special limescale remover cleaner. I'm in a hard water area, not super adept at cleaning either.
