To get waterfall taps in my new bathroom?

justlliloleme · 06/04/2024 20:41

Finally getting rid of our crappy 20 year old bathroom. Went to chose everything today & choose waterfall taps for the basin & bath.

People are now telling me they’re rubbish, they dribble, they’re a nightmare to keep clean are a few comments.

Are they that bad? Should I change my mind?

YABU - get rid of the waterfall taps
YANBU - keep the waterfall taps

They look awful too.

Wiglio · 07/04/2024 07:42

Agree with @Haggisfish3 water shoots over me, mine were here when I moved in and they are being replaced with normal taps

Dibbydoos · 07/04/2024 08:19

5 years on waterfall tap is fine in our main bathroom (the only one I replaced tbf)

How do they break????

We don't use the bath often mind so that could bevwhy I've escaped the issue and a bit of oil on a cloth cleans mine up fine...

Afraidofthedarke · 07/04/2024 08:25

I found they sprayed water out vertically if you accidentally put it on all the way. Looked nice to start with but quickly had limescale etc build up which I couldn’t get rid of (we are hard water area though). Also we had them 10 years ago and feel they’re a bit old fashioned now! Not got them in new house luckily. I would go for your second option definitely.

Londonrach1 · 07/04/2024 08:29

Never liked them when they in restaurant toilets as don't seem to run properly and look dirty. Never had one so interested to read everyone's opinion.

crazycatladie · 07/04/2024 08:33

Cleaner here. If you get a lot of limescale I'd avoid them , they won't look new for long.

We’re in the North West so soft water (I think).

These are what I’ve chosen https://www.cityplumbing.co.uk/p/iflo-waterscade-basin-mixer/p/295669

But might go for these instead https://www.cityplumbing.co.uk/p/iflo-tay-basin-mixer-62912-5001/p/424875

I'm in the North West too and don't have any any other issues with limescale apart from these bloody taps!

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 07/04/2024 09:57

Is there anything functionally better about them, or is it pure aesthetics ?

If it’s the latter, then best avoided. Elegant but functional is surely best.

BIossomtoes · 07/04/2024 10:00

I fell for them. We put up with them for about six months before we replaced them. It was an expensive lesson to learn.

notacooldad · 07/04/2024 10:01

We've had ours for about 10 years. I like them and no issues at all. I didn't realise they were disliked do much. In fact I never give them a thought on a day to day basis!

SpikyHairy · 07/04/2024 10:07

Get them, but if you ever sell your house ask the estate agent not to include them in the photos, in case the neighbours see them.

junecat · 07/04/2024 10:11

Mine were awful, had them changed after a few months 😣

iknowimcoming · 07/04/2024 10:11

I personally don't like them as the only ones I've come across always look crusty, however came to say that taps are one thing I think it's really worth paying more for decent quality I.e. Grohe, bristan etc, and also please, please, please check the sizes of the tap in relation to the sink fitting position, particularly the length of the spout as there's nothing worse than a tap that's too short to wash your hands under properly!

Different topic, but don’t get a square toilet… nightmare to replace the seats and also not comfy. So annoyed we went for one!!

I've been wondering about the proliferation of square toilets as I find them uncomfortable too.

Good to finally see someone else mention it.

bluecomputerscreen · 07/04/2024 10:46

a no from me as well for all the reasons pp describe.

plus with 'normal' taps you can insert water saving thingies.

astarsheis · 07/04/2024 12:35

My inlays had them in soft water area but the water just went everywhere. It is an avoid from me.

Jk8 · 07/04/2024 12:46

I actually really like the style but you have to be really carefully about where it's fitted - our new rental house has one over the bath that when you turn it off the the last half a litre ish hits the bath rim & sprays across the floor every. Single. Time (we've also has to have a leak fix when we first arrived but wasn't aware that's a known problem with them)

TwilightAb · 07/04/2024 12:50

If you have good water pressure then it's a no from me. Ours were OK until we changed our boiler to a combi, our water pressure increased and the water shot across the basin to the back wall everytime we turned the tap on in the bathroom. Have since got rid of them.

Notsuretoputit · 07/04/2024 12:56

I loved mine but two friends on two separate occasions were over for drinks, went to the bathroom, didn’t turn them off properly, and caused the water to run back onto the top of the sink which eventually came through the ceiling through the kitchen lights. People can’t seem to work them.

quizzys · 07/04/2024 13:40

Sunnnybunny72 · 07/04/2024 07:22

Bit dated.
Your second choice are lovely.

I agree (well I would, wouldn't I) I have very similar, they look so neat and modern and no splashes either.

Goneforaride · 07/04/2024 13:45

Don't do it. We've recently had a new bathroom fitted and were considering them - then we went on a short cottage holiday where the bathroom had them. By the end of the week, I was glad to see the back of them.

Water everywhere when you turn them on too hard, covered in limescale in a week and not nice to look at.

NeedWineNow · 07/04/2024 13:51

We had our bathroom replaced last year and bought a suite pack from Plumbworld which has waterfall taps.

I love them. I don't find any problems with limescale (and we live in a very hard water area) so long as we wipe dry after every use with a microfibre cloth. I think they look really nice.

CuntyMcBollocks · 07/04/2024 14:14

As long as you keep on top of the limescale, then I don't see why not. I used to be a cleaner and quite a few of my clients had these. There would always be some build up of limescale on them
