To get waterfall taps in my new bathroom?

justlliloleme · 06/04/2024 20:41

Finally getting rid of our crappy 20 year old bathroom. Went to chose everything today & choose waterfall taps for the basin & bath.

People are now telling me they’re rubbish, they dribble, they’re a nightmare to keep clean are a few comments.

Are they that bad? Should I change my mind?

YABU - get rid of the waterfall taps
YANBU - keep the waterfall taps

They're gimmicky imho. I think they'll date very quickly.

bellezarara · 06/04/2024 21:38

I think they look great but would be a nightmare in London. A relative has them in Yorkshire and they look lovely due to the soft water.

dementedpixie · 06/04/2024 21:42

My bathroom one must dribble when you switch it off so water always collects on the side of the sink. The end of them can end up looking rusty. I'm looking to replace them. Also looking to get rid of the click clack/pop up sink waste as they're a nightmare too and stick in the down position

Ours have been fine in the last two houses. I love them for drinking straight from the tap! We are in a medium water area.

BeretRaspberry · 06/04/2024 22:18

We have one and it’s fine and looks great. We live in a softish water area though so don’t have the limescale issue.

Whatwillbewilbe · 06/04/2024 22:19

We’ve had them almost four years and they work perfectly and look like new. I also, childishly, love how the water comes out in a cross-cross pattern. We do live in a soft water area though (Scotland).

venusandmars · 06/04/2024 22:21

Have them, love them. Soft water area. 12 years later they are still fantastic.

Tescovalu · 06/04/2024 22:22

I don’t know what one is

CJ0374 · 06/04/2024 22:29

We put them into our central London flat 10yrs ago. I had no idea they were still a thing now! We had no softener and they were a PITA to clean!
OP- check whether you are indeed in a soft water area, otherwise, invest in a softener if you really want them!

SkyBloo · 06/04/2024 22:30

We have them. In south east so hard water.

Its fine & i love them. They get wiped weekly with viakal which sorts the limescale no prob.

raspberryberet7 · 06/04/2024 22:31

Don't do it they're awful. My biggest regret

Haggisfish3 · 06/04/2024 20:43

They can also cause a water bounce out of your sink onto your crotch area (voice of bitter experience). Limesxale nightmare and im Not usually fussy about that sorry of thing.

Yep! All over your crotch on the way out the door to work

As above, avoid them.

Also avoid wet room style showers. We have one and it looks absolutely amazing - in practice it’s a total nightmare, water goes everywhere - we’re having it replaced with a conventional cubicle.

Mine’s brilliant. Beautifully angled floor that means the water stays where it’s meant to - but we do have a fixed glass screen, so maybe that helps.

SkyBloo · 06/04/2024 22:34

This just means its been poorly positioned on the basin by your plumber. We have a pretty tiny sink and its positioned to the side so the water flows into the centre of the basin.

thaisweetchill · 06/04/2024 22:40

Absolute nightmare to clean, avoid

CJ0374 · 06/04/2024 22:42

I forgot about that! We too had the issue if someone turned it on full force, the water projected straight out the spout, hits the opposite wall of the sink and sprayed up like a wave into your crotch!

Well, no. We didn't have a tiny sink at all, but due to the spout part being straight, it meant the water projected straight out, rather than down into the sink like a normal spout type tap which faces down.

WhatsitWiggle · 06/04/2024 22:48

Love mine, had them 5 years, hard water area but no problems cleaning them. Squirt of viakal weekly, rub any limescale deposits with a penny to remove.

If water is shooting straight out, the pressure is too high. There should be a valve under the sink you can adjust with a screwdriver to reduce the pressure.

Disneyvillain · 06/04/2024 22:49

We have similar to the second style. Hard water area so I use limescale cleaner. No problem with splashing. Ours are Bristan.

Silverfoxette · 07/04/2024 00:13

Candleabra · 06/04/2024 20:46

Definitely don’t. I had some in my old house and I don’t think they’d been plumbed in properly. The water came out horizontally, drenching your lower half if stood at the sink. Worst taps I’ve ever had.

We have the same problem currently and getting new taps in in a couple of weeks, cannot wait!! The amount of times we’ve been drenched not to mention having to warn guests before they use the bathroom 🙄

KnottyKnitting · 07/04/2024 00:20

As others have said they are a pain to clean especially if you live in a hard water area. We had one on our downstairs bathroom and it lasted about a year before we changed it.

Delphiniumandlupins · 07/04/2024 05:50

We've got soft (Scottish) water so no limescale problems. In fact our waterfall taps work quite well - except if you don't turn the hand basin one on far enough and it dribbles along.the back and onto the floor but I think that's because it's set too far back. Both sink and basin taps work pretty well as mixers too. The rest of the bathroom needs a whole new thread however.

babaisyou · 07/04/2024 05:55

I dislike them but I think it's a matter of personal taste. We have one in our en suite and DH likes it. It is covered in limescale though 😩

ManchesterBeatrice · 07/04/2024 05:56

Insanely tacky

StarlightLady · 07/04/2024 06:20

If you are in a remotely hard water area avoid! Watch the water pressure too. You can end up washing your tummy as well as your hands at the basin otherwise.

Sunnnybunny72 · 07/04/2024 07:22

Bit dated.
Your second choice are lovely.
