Do you ever think about this when you eat out? MUST READ

Years ago, I think it was a phone-in radio show show where they were talking about eating out. The caller said they put good-looking, smart people near windows and other prominent positions to entice new customers and I though, really, and started thinking where we were seated last time we ate out, lol

We rarely eat out other than a bite to eat at the local supermarkets unless on hols etc but when on hols, thankfully I have a really good-looking OH
😂and get a seat next to a window unless we don't want it.

I know for a fact that our daughter gets loads of attention from the waiters, male and female because she looks stunning, so it could be true?

Its their business, their choice, but not good practice IMO if it is still true in some places (For the record, I we do get put off if we see loud people and this that talk a lot with their hands and standing up, sitting down and big lol's)

NB: Do you own a restaurant/etc, do you practice stuff like this?

AIBU to think this kind of behaviour by some places that you go to eat to are doing this kind of thing are totally out of order as it should be the personality/behviour and not looks?

From a great newspaper in London - see below

Researchers on Channel 4 show Tricks of the Restaurant Trade discovered the best-looking diners were seated near windows to entice customers while less attractive customers were hidden away near the rear.

Top London restaurants 'sit ugly people at the back'

If you don’t get a window seat at a top London restaurant it could be because you’re too ugly and will put off other customers, a new documentary claims.

Hi

I know you are saying that in jest. However, note what I posted in my OP, IE, I heard a caller say that many years ago re where to put certain people.

I guess its more true in expensive places which we don't do, thankfully.

There have been a few FM's on this thread that work as waiters and their places did not do seats just because someone looked good.

As some have said, the link I posted is just a story to fill papers

I've noted over the years that many topics often reappear years later and this may be one of them.

TBH, if there was a place I knew of where they gave you a seat because you looked good, I'd not go there

However, as I said in my OP re the radio show phone caller, it has stuck in my mind - possibly I'm a bit paranoid and I know I am.

What are you trying to say?

thoseinperil · 05/04/2024 22:34

What absolute rubbish is this post

thoseinperil · 05/04/2024 22:35

And literally, who cares?
Are you a 'journalist'

Maverickess · 05/04/2024 22:36

Everyone wants the window tables where I work because we have a view.
It's first come (or booked and requested) first served no matter what you look like.
And if no bookings then allocated on table size and the way the restaurant is set up, I'm not going to put a 2 on a table for 6 in the window just because they look good.
And I'm more likely to go above and beyond for people who treat me with a bit of civility rather than how pleasing their features are.

Thanks.
As I thought, in my previous post, the good lokers by the windows or prominent seats may be for some really expensive places.

Makes a lot of sense what you said

Not in my experience. I often have to ask not to be sat in the window (when it's hot and sunny) and I don't dress up to go out, and I'm not so special they would want to showcase me.

Also, in my experience, when you book in advance they assign the table then, before they've even had a chance to look at you. They look at their planner to what table they have assigned your booking.

So I don't think being good looking has anything to do with whether you get a window seat.

VanGoghsDog · 05/04/2024 22:47

In McDonald's you just sit where you want. If you're lucky, it's clean.

Howbizarre22 · 05/04/2024 22:47

Hate to burst your bubble but wait staff are told in most places to sit people-all people- near the windows to make it look busy. An empty restaurant doesn’t look enticing. It’s nothing to do with looks

IntoTheMild · 05/04/2024 22:53

When I worked as a waitress we just sat people wherever we wanted. I honestly didn’t give it a second thought.

ZetuianRose · 05/04/2024 22:57

🤨

Suddenarabia · 05/04/2024 23:01

I’ve just read the article - they’re talking specifically about “top London restaurants”. The places I go are nice enough but most of them wouldn’t be considered top London restaurants!

hey come on. Op‘s daughter gets front centre at the local Morrisons

Rhoticity · 05/04/2024 23:02

what a load of rubbish

Blinky21 · 05/04/2024 23:03

I was wondering why when I phone up to book a table the person taking the booking always asked "How would you rate your family's attractiveness out of 10?"

😂😂

maximist · 05/04/2024 23:08

I've asked it before - what the fuck is an FM? Ive only ever seen this completely batshit poster use it, presumably they know what it means, but no one else seems to.....

Blahdeblah12345 · 05/04/2024 23:13

When you make a reservation theyve already got your table assigned and ready without even knowing what you look like, so no, I don't think this is true. This is even more the case for expensive restaurants that might be fully booked. They can't just rearrange the seating with a moments notice based on how good looking the patrons are. So I'm gonna say it's probably a load of bollox for the most part.

HauntedBungalow · 05/04/2024 23:14

I'm with you OP : I hate it when people stand up and sit down.

AI is quite sophisticated these days.

This tedious bastard, on the other hand, is not.

Indeed, we prefer not to sit i a window if its next to a pavement but above ground floor or larger space around the place, we don't mind

Every time we go in and shown to seats its always in the back of my mind.
Thankfully, the majority of time we chose our own seats, ie in the supermarket cafe, lol

Mightily surprised that you with your high end cars, huge drive, handsome husband, stunning daughter and high earning sons aren't frequenting the likes of The Ivy and the Savoy?

So you are up your own backside about who gets placed in the window seats, an despite all of your alleged wealth, you eat in Tescos?!!!

effiesgoldwig · 05/04/2024 23:33

Totally thought this was going to be about if the chef had washed his hands after going to the loo... that's what I would be more worried about than where I was sat.

SuperwomansAMyth · 05/04/2024 23:36

I know nothing about the field but top London restaurants, I expect, would be booked up well in advance for the most part. Bookings in advance are taken before they even see you in person, with seats assigned as bookings come in. So I really don't think how you look has anything to do with it. Worst case, I've known people turned away for not meeting a dress code (from places not in London).

Mistymist · 05/04/2024 23:37

Yeah right. What a load of bollocks.
