Do you ever think about this when you eat out? MUST READ

Years ago, I think it was a phone-in radio show show where they were talking about eating out. The caller said they put good-looking, smart people near windows and other prominent positions to entice new customers and I though, really, and started thinking where we were seated last time we ate out, lol

We rarely eat out other than a bite to eat at the local supermarkets unless on hols etc but when on hols, thankfully I have a really good-looking OH
😂and get a seat next to a window unless we don't want it.

I know for a fact that our daughter gets loads of attention from the waiters, male and female because she looks stunning, so it could be true?

Its their business, their choice, but not good practice IMO if it is still true in some places (For the record, I we do get put off if we see loud people and this that talk a lot with their hands and standing up, sitting down and big lol's)

NB: Do you own a restaurant/etc, do you practice stuff like this?

AIBU to think this kind of behaviour by some places that you go to eat to are doing this kind of thing are totally out of order as it should be the personality/behviour and not looks?

From a great newspaper in London - see below

Researchers on Channel 4 show Tricks of the Restaurant Trade discovered the best-looking diners were seated near windows to entice customers while less attractive customers were hidden away near the rear.

Top London restaurants 'sit ugly people at the back'

If you don’t get a window seat at a top London restaurant it could be because you’re too ugly and will put off other customers, a new documentary claims.

We have had window seats and seats in other places if we have not pre-booked a place we just sit wherever if tables available, i honestly think you are reading to much into this OP it does not matter about the way someone looks i always imagine they will sit people appropriately depending on table party size.

Pigeonqueen · 05/04/2024 17:42

I have worked in all kinds of restaurants my whole life, including some very posh 5 star type London ones and I’ve never heard this. I can’t say I’ve ever looked at a couple and decided to sit them at the window because they’re good looking 😂

IClaudine · 05/04/2024 17:16

Nice stealth boast OP!

😆

Zwicky · 05/04/2024 17:27

I’ve sat in millions of window seats and I look like a potato

😆 I’m sure you don’t!

5128gap · 05/04/2024 17:40

Absolutely true. DP and I haven't shared a table in years. I'm always in the window and he's out back with the bins.

🤣🤣
Well I feel like shit now OP. We took the children (oh I know actual children, THREE of them as well) to a nice restaurant and we were put at the back as though they wanted to hide us. It was that awkward we ended up leaving since they just left us with the menus for ages. I think we took the hint well 🤣

PonyPatter44 · 05/04/2024 17:46

I bet the reverse is true, though - they'll put anyone in the window, except people with visible facial deformities. I wonder what they would do when the person is famous for said facial deformities... in the window with a big vase of flowers in front of them?

MUST READ

Annoying. but oh go on then..........

"I'm gorgeous, my husband is gorgeous and my daughter is gorgeous"

We're all very happy for you OP 🤣🤣

Hilarious! 🤣

the80sweregreat · 05/04/2024 17:46

On holiday in seaside restaurants they like to put people near the front ( especially if it has an outdoor part ) to make it look busier. Well, this is what I've always thought anyway.
We have been put up the back of restaurants in the UK before now , maybe because we are not that attractive!
It's an interesting theory though.

“Must read” ?

I actually knew it was him before I clicked on the thread! 🤣🤣

LlynTegid · 05/04/2024 17:48

I don't think about this to be honest. I've not noticed Brits abroad being put in the rear part of a restaurant in favour of smart French and Italians, for example.

Axx · 05/04/2024 17:49

They'd put Quasimodo in the window to make it look busy rather than leave it empty.

The standard is a tatty rag these days, has been for many many years.

OneStripeySockAndOneSpottySock · 05/04/2024 17:51

I sat in Greggs the other day, with my stunning Daughter, in the window seat

flicks hair

KreedKafer · 05/04/2024 17:51

In what way is a post about an eight-year-old story in a free newspaper, about something that’s been known forever, a ‘MUST READ’?

Bruisername · 05/04/2024 17:51

The standard is a great paper? You’re definitely on the wind up OP!!

Mitsky · 05/04/2024 17:53

What about if I book a table? Do they trawl social networks to find me and identify my closest connections to predict who I might be dining with and therefore where to seat us in the restaurant when they reserve the table?

oh it’s her and her husband, bung them in the bins.

table for 3? Probably the quarterly cousin meet up with her mega babe relatives, sit them in the window with spotlights on them.

Ihateboris · 05/04/2024 17:56

Elvis1956 · 05/04/2024 17:19

Not true, people are sat near windows to make the place look busy...so you think...oh lots of people go there, the food must be good

This. My other half and I often eat out and are always offered window seats . We're not remotely a good looking couple!!

madroid · 05/04/2024 17:56

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator

You are a twat.

Mushroomwalls · 05/04/2024 17:58

Hahaha they put you in the window to make it look busy 😄

Londonrach1 · 05/04/2024 17:59

They put people at the front to make it look busy....

MUST IGNORE ANOTHER GOADY THREAD FROM OP.

👍👍👍

worcesterpear · 05/04/2024 18:05

I remember hearing about this, and sometimes wonder about it, but think more likely it is to make the place look busy. We get put in different places, sometimes near the window, sometimes not even when it's empty, and we are past our best! So I don't know.

missin · 05/04/2024 18:08

HelloMiss · 05/04/2024 17:35

I've not read the Op

Feel a bit rebellious ... what's going to happen to me

You'll be posted about on the next AIBU thread about reading posts

Nothing much happens other than that, it's quite disappointing when you take those kind of risks 😂

StarlightLime · 05/04/2024 18:08

FairisleFairy · 05/04/2024 17:21

“Must read” ?

Indeed 🤣🤣🤣

Sauvblanctime · 05/04/2024 18:11

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator

your pathetic boasting and self promotion of your article makes me want to seat you in the back

Lurleene · 05/04/2024 18:13

I remember this was a story line in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Since watching that DH are painfully aware that we are usually seated in the ugly corner.🙂
