Do you ever think about this when you eat out? MUST READ

Years ago, I think it was a phone-in radio show show where they were talking about eating out. The caller said they put good-looking, smart people near windows and other prominent positions to entice new customers and I though, really, and started thinking where we were seated last time we ate out, lol

We rarely eat out other than a bite to eat at the local supermarkets unless on hols etc but when on hols, thankfully I have a really good-looking OH
😂and get a seat next to a window unless we don't want it.

I know for a fact that our daughter gets loads of attention from the waiters, male and female because she looks stunning, so it could be true?

Its their business, their choice, but not good practice IMO if it is still true in some places (For the record, I we do get put off if we see loud people and this that talk a lot with their hands and standing up, sitting down and big lol's)

NB: Do you own a restaurant/etc, do you practice stuff like this?

AIBU to think this kind of behaviour by some places that you go to eat to are doing this kind of thing are totally out of order as it should be the personality/behviour and not looks?

From a great newspaper in London - see below

Researchers on Channel 4 show Tricks of the Restaurant Trade discovered the best-looking diners were seated near windows to entice customers while less attractive customers were hidden away near the rear.

Top London restaurants 'sit ugly people at the back'

If you don’t get a window seat at a top London restaurant it could be because you’re too ugly and will put off other customers, a new documentary claims.

Nice stealth boast OP!

PonyPatter44 · 05/04/2024 17:17

The Standard isn't been a "great newspaper " for a very very long time. I'm sure there are a few restaurants where this is true, but isn't it actually a subplot in Ted Lasso? I'm far from stunning but I never have a problem getting a decent seat in any restaurant.

SausageRoll2020 · 05/04/2024 17:19

I know they put people near the window to make it look busy.

However, my husband and I were given a window table when we went out for dinner earlier this week, so I'm just going to take the compliment and presume this is true 💅🏻😂

Elvis1956 · 05/04/2024 17:19

Not true, people are sat near windows to make the place look busy...so you think...oh lots of people go there, the food must be good

pizzaHeart · 05/04/2024 17:20

I’m not eating out a lot but when I do I have mixed experience sometimes it’s window table sometimes in the middle and sometimes it’s your choice.
I’m far from stunning and no one in my group will be counted as this.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 05/04/2024 17:23

We were seated at the window yesterday. I'll take the ego boost!!!

if we were 'window' material, they're in a bad way!!😂😂

Not true, people are sat near windows to make the place look busy...so you think...oh lots of people go there, the food must be good

This is exactly why they place people by windows.

Shabnamsshoos · 05/04/2024 17:25

I know for a fact that our daughter gets loads of attention from the waiters, male and female because she looks stunning, so it could be

I guess this is what people call “pretty privilege”. How depressingly superficial of some people though?!

I waitressed and if anything I was more drawn to the people who were more friendly and pleasant. It didn’t matter how conventionally good looking or not they were. Maybe this is why I got such good tips!

No idea about the window thing but I usually see a table I want and ask if we can be sat there! I tend to prefer tables far away from the door and people traffic actually.

Zwicky · 05/04/2024 17:27

I’ve sat in millions of window seats and I look like a potato

SabreIsMyFave · 05/04/2024 17:28

What a load of nonsense. 🙄

MUST IGNORE ANOTHER GOADY THREAD FROM OP.

InTheShallowTheShalalalalalalalow · 05/04/2024 17:31

I'm a solid 3/10 and often get seated near the window <preens>

Shabnamsshoos · 05/04/2024 17:31

I’ve just read the article - they’re talking specifically about “top London restaurants”. The places I go are nice enough but most of them wouldn’t be considered top London restaurants!

Also as with all these things about looks, part of the reasons why it’s so problematic is peoples prejudices and various isms will kick in since beauty standards are very much to do with societal conditioning and who is deemed beautiful.

This was quite sad to read : The programme sent four models into three high-end London eateries where they were led to so-called “golden tables” – the most prominent ones near the front.
But when co-host Adam Pearson, who suffers from the condition neurofibromatosis which leaves his face covered in tumours, went into the venues he was either told there was no room or led to the back.

We're all very happy for you OP 🤣🤣

🤣🤣

WickWood · 05/04/2024 17:34

I agree with others, they seat people at the windows to make the place look busy and enticing.

A bit like the 'discuss' we used to see

Bloody ridiculous

HelloMiss · 05/04/2024 17:35

I've not read the Op

Feel a bit rebellious ... what's going to happen to me

PossumintheHouse · 05/04/2024 17:36

What a load of bollocks. Well done on the "MUST READ" though, totally suckered me in.
And, err, congratulations on your daughter, I guess.

missin · 05/04/2024 17:39

Congrats 🥂 on the good looking fam, and commiserations to the bugly folks 😅

I definitely notice I'm treated better when I'm carrying myself better bc I feel confident in my appearance that day

But that applies everywhere, not just restaurants!

I'm guilty of it myself... think we all are, in affording respect that matches the cover initially before we have anything else to go on from a person

But yeah it's the busy and popular thing not them thinking 🤔 nah to others going in the window 🤣

5128gap · 05/04/2024 17:40

Absolutely true. DP and I haven't shared a table in years. I'm always in the window and he's out back with the bins.

Blackcats7 · 05/04/2024 17:41

Stealth boast much? Pathetic
