I know many will disagree with me, but Mariah fans, unite!!

I’ve been watching YouTube videos of some of her songs tonight (randomly, saw a clip of one on Instagram and then got sucked down the rabbit hole!) and I just remember why I love her.

Just watched her live performance of ‘we belong together’ for Live8, it’s just sooo good. I LOVE the emancipation of Mimi, it was the sound track to my teenage years and brings back so many memories.

Anyone else love Mariah?

Yes she’s incredible. I loved vision of love and everything since. Open arms, the old stuff I listened to obsessively. Also love Whitney, Lauryn Hill, aretha etc etc

Mariah is technically perfect in my opinion. The dynamics in her tone, her range and breath control are phenomenal.

It’s not seen as cool to lke Mariah on MN. She regularly gets slated on music threads. But I bloody love her and always have.

I feel sad that this generation growing up now, don’t know who she is. Like she’s ICONIC, how can you not know who she is?! She’s still about releasing songs too, which makes it even more wounding. But no, it’s only Taylor Swift ‘young people’ care about now and I do like Taylor, but she’s very different to the likes of Mariah and can’t be compared.

My ds loves her, he’s 19, she’s still popular with lots of young people!

She is one of the great divas! And of course, queen of Christmas!

I'm not a fan of her music but she has a phenomenal voice. I think I read somewhere she can reach 5 octaves, someone like Beyonce can barely reach 4.

I bloody love Mariah. She is an old school diva Queen! Her voice is just incredible and I really don't know anyone these days (alive) vocally who can match her!

I think she’s great, I still believe is one of my favourite songs of hers. I’m generally more into metal, but I love the big voiced divas from that time. I watched an old video of Celine singing think twice on YouTube the other day and today’s singers just don’t compare!

I couldn't disagree more. Something about the tone of her voice offends my ears.

Same for Whitney. I find their voices screechy.

She has incredible skill but I just don't like her songs sadly.

I'm not a great singer myself so find it hard to appreciate great singing in others - I just don't have the ear for it.

Cannot stand her. Warbling away. "All I want for Christmas" gets turned off whenever it is played on the radio. Pick a bloody note and stick to it.

She was amazing in the early 1990's, but towards 2000 her voice changed and just doesn't sound "pretty" anymore.

She has an amazing voice.

If she ever just simply sang a song I might agree with you, because she really can sing. But she ruined most of the things that she sang with her awful warbling.

Not for me. I absolutely acknowledge she has a huge vocal range, and impressive flexibility, but she overdoes the melisma for me. It makes me want to go and listen to plainchant.

I agree I think she’s one of the best! Her and Whitney Houston were my two favourite singers growing up . Their vocal range is crazy !
