Who do you think of when you think of ‘masculinity’?

And would you say Andrew Tate is ‘masculine’?

OP posts:
Foxblue · 04/04/2024 20:37

Masculinity is a social construct, borne from the patriarchy. All the good things attributed to masculinity are in reality non gender specific, and a lot of things attributed as 'masculine', or certain by-products of 'masculine' traits are actually quite damaging for young men (and women)
I know that's not a fun answer, but..

Oh and Andrew Tate is a worm, so has no artificially constructed gender specific characteristics, as he is in fact, just a worm.

Pixiesgirl · 04/04/2024 20:55

Nooovi have never actually seen him speak, but from what I have he's a massive idiot. I like Bruce Parry, masculine in a good way, so so thoughtful and sensitive.

iLovee · 04/04/2024 20:58

Nah Andrew Tate is a worm. There is nothing masculine about him.

When I think of "masculine" I think of someone who is tall, bearded, smells nice , is confident and has deep voice.

Obvs very stereotypical but thats what I think!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 04/04/2024 21:01

No.

90s black and white posters of good-looking topless men holding tiny babies.

napody · 04/04/2024 21:01

Beard and deep voice. The stuff the testosterone does!
No specific personality traits. Someone can be masculine and gentle or masculine and aggressive.

DetOliviaBenson · 04/04/2024 21:02

Andrew Tate looks like Gollum.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/04/2024 21:03

Andrew Tate, nope.

My DH holding DD in one hand as a baby, yes.

PinotPony · 04/04/2024 21:04

Andrew Tate thinks he's masculine but to me he seems weak. Real masculinity has no need to boast or put others down.

Now I'm thinking of Tom Hardy... 😍

Simonjt · 04/04/2024 21:05

All men are masculine, being masculine isn’t a bad thing, just like being feminine isn’t. But some people mistake toxic masculinity etc as the same as actual masculinity.

more god than man

olivebranch31 · 04/04/2024 21:18

Quiet confidence is masculinity to me. Self assured but humble.

Andrew Tate is a fragile little man whose entire personality is money and women. Take the smoke and mirrors away and he has nothing.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 04/04/2024 21:25

When I think of masculinity I think about strong men. Not necessarily physically strong, more in a sense of who they are in relation to others kind of way. To me the strength I'm talking about manifests as protection and safety. Strong men protect the vulnerable, weak men hurt them.

Andrew Tate is a very weak man.

Take a bow 👏🏻

Nick Offerman.

Comfy in his own skin, nothing to prove, women are equals.

Also what Foxblue said, obvs.

Yep! Pink scrunchies and suits and all he he still has more masculinity in his little finger than Andrew Tate does in his entire body

She spanked him with the pizza joke too.
.
Anyway ...

He's boasted about seriously injuring a woman during an "argument".

He's boasted about manipulating and pimping women.

He's moved countries to avoid sexual assault and trafficking investigations.

He embodies the worst in men while preaching clichéd, hackneyed, simple minded shite.

His Dad raised him having him think he'd be the next world chess champion; he wasn't. Putting all that pressure on a child to be a world class anything would fuck them up.

His Dad probably has MH issues, he definitely does.

Tagyoureit · 04/04/2024 21:54

Andrew Tate has to pay women to hang around him! He's literally the lowest of the low!

Masculine men
Yes the 90s poster guy holding the baby
Ray Winstone
Tom Hardy
Tom Selleck
Daniel Craig

AmaryllisChorus · 04/04/2024 22:00

Showing my age but Colin Firth in a wet white shirt is the very opposite of feminine. Grin And also looks so good and kind which are valuable masculine traits.

The words that spring to mind for Andrew Tate are low-life pimping crim scum. He's not a strong enough character to be masculine because he has to belittle others to feel big which is the sign of a social inadequate.

Newsenmum · 04/04/2024 22:01

Yucky no.

I see masculine as confident, honest, calm, looks traditionally ‘male’ and fatherly to kids. Attractive and protective sort of thing. Also kind! Big thing.

FillyourPothole · 04/04/2024 22:02

Andrew Tate's a little scrote.

Masculine is strong, capable, protective, fair and understanding.

StrawberrySquash · 04/04/2024 22:03

A nice chiseled jaw and maybe a pair of capable forearms.

Andrew Tate looks like Pob. I'm not a fan of too much going on about toxic masculinity, but if ever there was a time to use the phrase it's with regards him.

helpfulperson · 04/04/2024 22:03

This is going back a bit but Nick from Londons Burning TV show.

The way he talks seriously reminds me of hitler. Not just content but it’s quite powerful how he barks. Eerie.
