Decluttering - do I need a peeler or a whisk?

I’ve recently moved house and am having a major declutter of my kitchen utensils before our new kitchen is installed. I really want a clutter-free space. I have a peeler and a whisk that I’ve never used. Do I really need them or can I throw them away? For context, I use a knife for peeling carrots and potatoes, and have never felt the need to use a whisk. Is it worth keeping them or shall I get rid?

I use mine all the time but if you don’t use yours then there’s no need to keep them.

I just don’t want to chuck them then regret it!

the peeler only keep that if you peel lots of veg like carrots and parsnips but whisks are useful for things like scrambled egg cake mix whipping cream gravy granules etc so if one has to go i would say the peeler

Vergingontheridiculous · 04/04/2024 19:33

We're so partial to our particular peelers we have have his and hers, and never use the other's. I can't imagine not having one, but if you don't use it then chuck it.

Both.

<faints at the very thought>

I always use a peeler for potatoes and carrots etc. you can move the peeler downwards and get it done so much quicker and safer than knife.
Whisk is not necessary but I do have an electric one with 2 removable beaters for occasional baking. But keep the peeler, lose the whisk I reckon.

biscuitcat · 04/04/2024 19:35

I use both of mine all the time (in fact I have multiple of both!) - you could keep for now and then make a final decision once the kitchen is in, depending on how full it feels.

I love the peeler for thin slivers of Parmesan, as well as peeling veg.

I had a major decluttering . Peeler and hand whisk went and I don’t miss them at all. The potato masher went as well.

Alstreena · 04/04/2024 19:38

You need both.

theywenttoseainasievetheydid · 04/04/2024 19:38

they are cheap to replace if you subsequently find you miss them

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/04/2024 19:39

I use my peeler nearly every day. I have 3 whisks plus a Kitchen Aid with whisk but don't think I could get rid of them.

Namerchanger1 · 04/04/2024 19:39

I can’t believe this is a thread 😆

if you don’t use it, chuck it out! No one else can make the decision for you!

Loopzy · 04/04/2024 19:40

I use my peeler for veg, fruit, cheese and chocolate, I wouldn't get rid of it!

Ladyprehensile · 04/04/2024 19:42

Don’t ditch!
Donate to charity.

I use my peeler occasionally. Likewise I have 3 types of whisk all of which get used.
When you need one nothing else will do!

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2024 19:42

A peeler cost £1 from Asda.

How is your life going to be negatively impacted without a peeler? If you miss a peeler, do you think you can afford a new peeler? Does your current peeler have sentimental value? The chances are if you don't currently use a peeler you won't miss the peeler.

Unfortunately I can't comment on the cost of a new whisk. But the above principle applies.

JumpstartMondays · 04/04/2024 19:44

We did the same in Jan - a humongous kitchen clear out and new kitchen installed. It's so nice have a clutter free kitchen!

If you don't use them then get rid.
If you are unsure consider how easy are they to replace? E.g. can you pick up a new one in 30mins if needed? We were savage and ruthless with our clear out.

Good luck!

I was thinking the same 😂

We use our peeler pretty much daily and I use the hand whisk probably twice a week (have a kenwood with whisk attachment which also gets used a few times a week) so we’d never get rid of whisk or peeler.
If you don’t peel anything with a peeler don’t keep it. You’re not going to suddenly start needing to use a whisk if you’ve never used one before so get rid. They cost less than a tenner to replace down the line if you change your mind!

Remo22 · 04/04/2024 19:44

I always need the peeler but it all is up to your personal preference

Davros · 04/04/2024 19:46

Keep the peeler and use a fork

lalaloopyhead · 04/04/2024 19:51

I have a small whisk which I use a lot, I personally wouldn't get rid. I suppose you can scrape carrots etc rather than peel but does it actually take up that much space.
I had a phase of watching The Minimal Mom, she has like 4 plates and 4 cups etc (I have loads!) and I was inspired to get rid of some of our vast amount of kitchen stuff ( do we really need 4 different frying pans??l) ...I ended up replacing some of it 🤣

Davros · 04/04/2024 19:46

I would (politely) disagree with that, you can't use a fork to make a white sauce in a non stick pan but you could peel a carrot with a sharp knife.

Oblomov24 · 04/04/2024 19:56

Do you never peel potatoes? Or veg?

I don’t think I’ve ever peeled a potato. Why would you?!

PermanentTemporary · 04/04/2024 20:05

If you have a shit £1 peeler and never use it, then sure get rid of it.

If you have a Good Grips one but for some reason have never tried it, try it soon. You'd have to prize mine out of my cold dead hand.

I never use a balloon whisk since I've had a decent electrical hand whisk.

There's a theme here - the right equipment gets used.
