AIBU to buy our adult children Easter eggs?

nameohnameohname · 03/04/2024 16:51

Please settle an argument with DH!
Kids are in their 20s.
One of us thinks this is a usual thing to do.
One thinks it is weird.
I won’t tell you which of us thinks it’s weird until later….

YABU - buying eggs for adult children is WEIRD
YANBU - buying eggs for adult children is not only usual, but LOVELY

Surely they can just buy it themselves?

Well of course they can but are you not familiar with the concept of gifts?

hazeydays14 · 03/04/2024 19:23

I’m 31 and my mum swore she wouldn’t be buying me an egg this year because I’m too old.. saw her on Easter Monday and she had bought my fave Lindt bunny one for me! 😂
I wouldn’t mind if she hadn’t bought one for me but I’m secretly glad she did.
I imagine when she becomes a grandmother that will be when she will stop, both of us kids don’t have children yet
Dad hasn’t bought me one since I was 18.. we don’t have a super close relationship so it’s not really surprising

YANBU, never too old for an Easter egg

Same @doneandone - egg hunt for my 19,18 and 12yo dc, I say to myself it’s mainly
for the youngest but I don’t think he’d care if I stopped so long as he still for the chocolate 😂 his elder sisters on the other hand would be outraged!
I still buy mine eggs but I haven’t had one as an adult ever, I think my mum stopped when I was a teen.

Dh thinks it’s nonsense but comes out to watch them scurrying about in the garden! He also thinks they are too old for stockings but he is overruled again 😂 he doesn’t really get much of a say…

We still do stockings too, can't see me stopping that either!!

Willyoujustbequiet · 03/04/2024 19:37

No matter how old they get they're still our babies aren't they.

I couldn't not buy them any.

BulbasaurusRex · 03/04/2024 19:37

I think it’s lovely to keep buying them 😊I’d love it if my mum still did, but then my mum has dementia so her days of doing things like that are long gone. Buy the damn Easter eggs and spoil your loved ones while you can!

ohtowinthelottery · 03/04/2024 19:39

From about the age of 10 we got DS bars of chocolate instead if eggs as you get more chocolate and less packaging for your money!
He's 27 now and we bought him artisan chocolate bars this year from a chocolate stall at our local market - including a bar decorated with a dinosaur!

lovemycbf · 03/04/2024 20:02

I still get an Easter egg from my parents and I still buy my adult sons and partners one too! You're never too old for Easter chocolate

Howdidtheydothat · 03/04/2024 20:16

It’s normal to give eggs to adult children, especially if they also buy for you as their DPs and /or you all meet up to celebrate Easter with a meal.
I (aged 45) buy for my parents and they buy for me. They both love chocolate, they do lots of kind things for me (and me them) and a it’s just a nice treat for all.
If I didn’t see them often and not at Easter, I probably wouldn’t but would send flowers and a card. If I couldn’t afford it, just a card. They really like getting cards in the post as most mail is junk nowadays and they find online contact “not the same” ❤️

RedRobyn2021 · 03/04/2024 20:25

My mum still buys me an Easter egg and I'm 33 and have a toddler

I'm guessing it's your husband that thinks it weird

myusernamewastakenbyme · 03/04/2024 20:30

My kids are 20...25 and 26 and i still buy them easter eggs...i also still do them a stocking at xmas too.

Funderthighs · 03/04/2024 20:35

DD bought me one this year. I was chuffed to bits 😃

Pineapplewaves · 03/04/2024 20:36

My DM used to buy me an egg until I had DC, now DM buys DC an egg and nothing for me (DP and I buy each other an egg though).

MIL used to happily buy DP and me an egg each until DP told her stop it (without consulting me) so now she just buys for DC.

Pineapplewaves · 03/04/2024 20:37

I think I will always buy my DC an Easter egg each, even when they are grown up!

AhBiscuits · 03/04/2024 20:38

MIL bought us Lindt bunnies. We're in our 40s.

Ilovelurchers · 03/04/2024 20:38

Mom.buys them for me and my brother and our partners and my daughter. Me and my brother but eggs for each other + partners + DD and ones for mom and dad. We all buy them for my cousin as well as she is on her own - I think she gives one to my daughter usually (seeing her tomorrow so will find out). And I get them for my daughter and husband.

I don't think there are hard and fast rules. Give them to whoever you feel would like them, if you can afford it.

I have at least one adult friend who was upset he didn't get any eggs. I don't think it was the lack of chocolate (he can afford to buy his own) - more that it's a nice gesture.

Ponoka7 · 03/04/2024 20:41

I stopped last year. My youngest is 26. I didn't get Christmas pj's either, it felt a bit strange tbh.

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/04/2024 20:41

I'm 55. I got one. And I still get an advent calendar. My DM is fab

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/04/2024 20:45

I buy my Dad an Easter egg and he's 80.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 03/04/2024 20:45

My dad got me four! Then i got a bloody pre diabetes diagnosis on the 28th :(

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 03/04/2024 20:52

I got one from ExH which I found WEIRD. but I accepted. I'm in my mid-40s.

Eggs are for everyone.

Jc2001 · 03/04/2024 20:56

Well both my parents are in their late 70s and I still buy them Easter eggs. It's just a bit of fun.

Projectme · 03/04/2024 20:57

I'm 54 and I still get one from my parents. So does DH! 🤣

wineandsunshine · 03/04/2024 20:58

Yes to giving eggs!

Two of my older sons had them (21 & 18). They were very grateful 🥰

I was given a yummy Lindt bunny by a pupil in my class too!

Ha! Yes of course it’s me that’s buying and DH that thinks it is weird. I knew I’d ‘win’!
