Costco cheese row

So the other day I visited Costco in Bristol.
At the hot food counter I ordered a chicken burger without cheese as I can't eat cheese. Only to be told that they can't sell it to me without cheese on .
Even after explaining I can't eat cheese they just said sorry it's not optional. The person I was with ordered a hotdog with no onions, apparently onions are optional but cheese is not!

Was I being unreasonable to complain to not one, but 4 staff members before they finally served me a plain chicken burger?

This all took at least 10-15 minutes at the till.
Seems like a very unreasonable policy to me. The burgers weren't already made up, so it wasn't like they had to make me a fresh one.

Could you just have had a hot dog?

I could have. But I'm not a fan of hot dogs.

Did they say why it wasn't optional if the burgers weren't pre-made?

I was thinking the same. What reason did they give?

Pollyannamex · 03/04/2024 16:41

Sounds weird, why did they say you couldn’t have it without cheese?

Soubriquet · 03/04/2024 16:41

If it’s not a pre-made thing as in the cheese is on it frozen, then YANBU. It’s less work!!

They said they don't do customisation because they were getting too many complaints when they got people's orders wrong.

Was it really worth making a fuss over a very average burger, isn't Costco a shop?

Why should she have to when she wanted a chicken burger?

JimBobsWife · 03/04/2024 16:45

I think their answer was reasonably fair. Perhaps they get loads of grief when they try to please individual requests and don't quite meet the customer's expectations. Does seem a bit odd though - with or without cheese is pretty straightforward - not sure how they could make a mistake doing that?

Exactly what I thought! The chicken was sat out without cheese on it they only have to put it in the bun!

Weird policy, I'd be annoyed too.
It can't be that hard 😂

Unless they get it in with cheese already on somehow?

It is if you're allergic to the ingredient you want removing!

Just have something else

Dacadactyl · 03/04/2024 16:48

Sorry, their usual offering is a CHICKEN BURGER with cheese?!

Bonkers.

They are unreasonable offering that in the first place and its even weirder to say the cheese can't be removed. Unless you wanted money off for not having the cheese?

That being said I'd not have made a fuss at and just got something else.

The only options were pizza, chicken burger or hot dog.

Crisps? Costco isn't known for its lunches is it?

Customer-tagging conspiracy. The cheese is laced with a psychedelic mood-enhancer and a microscopic radioactive isotope so they can both track you at all times and adjust your mood to get you to buy more 😳
