To ask where did the bird come from and where has it gone??

We came home from a nice (but damp) long weekend camping in Norfolk. Our cat was left as usual in the dining room/kitchen/utility room and both doors to the lounge were shut. My mum popped in to check on cat and didn't open any of the doors to the lounge.

We arrive home yesterday and there is lots of bird poo in the lounge. Mostly on the back of the sofa which is by the large window but some on other high surfaces.

No window was left open and both doors were shut when we got home. We cannot find the bird.

  1. How did the bird get in the room?
  2. Where the fuck is it now??

The bird was already in the room before you left, you shut it in there.

It's dead down the back of a bookcase or biding it's time and waiting to attack.

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 02/04/2024 18:05

Up the chimney? Was going to suggest the cat ate it but just realised cat didn't have access to lounge.

Redstorm2807 · 02/04/2024 18:05

Definitely wasn't there when we left. There is a gas fire in the room but could it really have got down through that?

Has the cat eaten it ?

Sandwichgen · 02/04/2024 18:15

Your mum did open the door …

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 02/04/2024 18:15

Is your mum being truthful..... could there have been some open window / open lounge door/ bird / cat type accident, that she then cleared up and thought you wouldn't find out about? If the bird poo is down the back of the sofa and high surfaces only (ie not immediately visible places) maybe she thought she'd cleaned everything up. Odd not to tell you though

RaisinforBeing · 02/04/2024 18:18

I think the cat will find the bird if it’s still there if you watch carefully enough. The cat will be able to smell where it’s been.

Probably should have mentioned there is also a snake in the room but Captain Noodles cannot get out of his tank.

OP posts:
MereDintofPandiculation · 02/04/2024 18:29

Well, that’s clear. The snake ate it.

Redstorm2807 · 02/04/2024 18:29

I don't think my mum would lie about it. And the poop was really obvious - she would have seen it. I did think the cat would surely find it or we'd be able to smell it but not so far. Cat is elderly and not particularly helpful with such things.

Snek cannot get out of his tank. Or if he did he wouldn't have been able to get back in. And he is in his tank.

A bird got into a room we had a gas fire in once.
So your bird is possibly hiding up the chimney. Or has been Noodled.

Hmm, that seems likely as the route in but I can't believe it would have got back up that way. We've checked the back of all the furniture.

What is the snake tank engress/ingress situation?

StHilarion · 02/04/2024 18:40

Is he called Cotton eye Joe

Messagetoyou · 02/04/2024 18:41

The cat has probably eaten it. Ours used to eat the whole bird but leave the kidneys on the floor. It was gross 🤢

Snake cannot get out. Lid is heavy and no way for him to push it open without assistance.

Ewww. Our cat is genuinely useless. He actually ran away from a mouse once.

It’s definitely the time of year that jackdaws try and nest in chimneys. I know of more than one person who has had to tidy up after a sooty jackdaw has fallen down into a room.

But you don’t say there is a sooty mess in your sitting room….so we are no further forward

I hadn't thought of that. There was no mess around the chimney at so. Surely it would have brought some dirt down with it if it came down the chimney?
