Who is being weird about clocks changing here?

TimeToTurnItAround · 31/03/2024 20:19

DH does this thing after the clocks change where he says "5pm but really 6pm" or whatever the old time is....for about 2 weeks

He says we are all on old time for about 2 weeks and that it takes everyone that time to readjust and he is just reminding me of the "real" time for the adjustment period.

I think this is super weird. He thinks I'm being mad by saying you feel a bit more tired for one day and that is about it.

Thoughts?

Yes! My husband and seemingly now my son have done this all day today... so annoying!

My dad used to wear two watches on holiday, one with the holiday time and one with the UK time! 🤭

SabreIsMyFave · 31/03/2024 22:29

Yes to do this for 2 weeks IS weird, and ludicrous! One to two days tops is acceptable. Anyone does more than that, and they're being ridiculous and annoying.

My DH is a bloody nuisance for this. Yesterday at 6pm, he said 'this time tomorrow it will be 7pm.' Today at 3pm, he said 'this time yesterday it was 2pm!' Next Saturday at 1pm, he will say, 'this time last week it was midday.'

Yet around FIVE TIMES today he has said 'what time is it?' First time I said '2pm...'

Then he started acting all confused ... He looks like Confused and then says 'so that was 3pm yesterday?' I said 'NO - this time yesterday it was 1pm, the clocks went FORWARD an hour, not back!'

Then I said 'we will have our Easter roast dinner at 7pm is that OK?' he said 'but that's late. That's like 8pm .... 7pm today was 8pm yesterday.' I said NO 7pm was 6pm yesterday. We usually have dinner around 6-6.30pm anyway!' He's like Confused

Also, when we have been away for a weekend to North Wales for example, he says (when we get back,) 'this time yesterday we were in Llandudno.' and then a week later, he says 'this time last week we were in Llandudno.' Same if we go for a daytrip to Chester say... The next day, he says 'this time yesterday we were in Chester.' The following week... 'this time last week we were in Chester.'

Then the week before Christmas... 17th December he will say 'this time next week is Christmas Eve,' then the next day ...' this time next week is Christmas day,' then the next day 'this time next week is Boxing day.' Then the beginning of January he says ... 'this time last week it was Christmas Eve,' and 'this time last week it was Christmas day,' and 'this time last week it was Boxing day.' 😖

I don't need him to tell me.. I FUCKING KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! Angry

Drives me fucking batshit. Confused

ASeriesOfTubes · 31/03/2024 22:30

winter time is actually correct time

There's no such thing as "correct time". Although accurate timekeeping has been absolutely necessary for humanity to function for about 150 years, the point in the earth's rotation at which 07:00am GMT occurs is entirely arbitrary.

ManchesterLu · 31/03/2024 22:30

I only do it first thing in the morning, to work out how much sleep I've had/whether I need to be getting up. I might mention how dark/light it is in the evening as obviously it's a novelty the first time, but other than that, I just get used to it.

Starlightstarbright3 · 31/03/2024 22:32

I used to buy all the clocks change themselves so don’t have to think about it anymore

ShyTed · 31/03/2024 22:35

My husband doesn’t change the clock in his car. So for the next 6 months it will be the correct time 😂

BirthdayRainbow · 31/03/2024 22:37

@SabreIsMyFave Just reading your post annoyed me. Feel sorry for you living it!

DiscoBeat · 31/03/2024 22:39

If he can suddenly start doing it two weeks before why can't he suddenly start doing it when it actually happens??

I do exactly the same as your husband to be honest.. but only for a few days

It IS annoying! Angry Thankfully it's not all the time, because the clocks rarely move an hour, and we don't go on weekends away more than 3 times a year, and only the odd couple of day trips, and Christmas is only once a year. But fuck me it's annoying when he does it. I don't even know why he does it! Confused

Mmmm19 · 31/03/2024 22:43

It’s not weird at all, I assumed everyone did this (for the first 1-2 days)

CrunchyCarrot · 31/03/2024 22:47

I do it in my head for about a week or so after the change. Sometimes say something to DP if the cat is demanding food earlier than usual! But certainly not as a constant reminder out loud.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 31/03/2024 22:50

I did this several times today, I feel tired but I got up at usual time, oh receipt or was really 6:30 not 7:30. Why is DS still bouncing off the walls at bedtime? Oh because it's really 6pm not 7pm and the volume of chocolate he's consumed today Although I'm now in bed happily, even though it's really only ten to ten!

Orders76 · 31/03/2024 22:51

I love that a now passed family member used to leave their wristwatch as the wrong time for 6 months!
My favourite 'nope' in the world

ColBoulter · 31/03/2024 22:54

soupfiend · 31/03/2024 20:24

Its not 'weird'.

The hyperbole on this site honestly

If you think this is something unnecessary (which is a better description), then meet my cat. She will still demand her food at GMT.

Mine reminded me I was late with his treat hidden tablet tonight
He patted me on the arm like I'm stupid 😂

stayathomer · 31/03/2024 22:55

Sorry, I do this too, just to figure out what I'd usually be doing for example. DH HATES it!! He says 'but it doesn't matter now!'

GingerPirate · 31/03/2024 22:56

Yes, I do this.
Hate changes, especially the shitty "Summer" time and it takes me a while.
The other one isn't that bad.
My husband is oblivious to this. 🤨

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 31/03/2024 22:57

I absolutely do this. For at least a couple of days.

dimples76 · 31/03/2024 23:14

I have a colleague who does this. She pokes fun at the fact that she does it herself but can't stop herself! I find it endearing

NeverDropYourMooncup · 31/03/2024 23:21

My sleep (what there is of it) is now fucked until sometime in September. So I will be less than joyous about the prospect of getting up at what my body thinks is just after 4am when I'm still awake until 2.30.

AuntMarch · 31/03/2024 23:22

I do it when I wake up on the day. Because I'm chuffed I managed to sleep in, and then annoyed when I realise I didn't.
Havent mentioned it again, apart from reminding my dad to change his clocks when I went round.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 31/03/2024 23:23

Beginningless · 31/03/2024 20:53

I think it’s a bit odd to comment on the ‘real’ time every time for 2 weeks (although wonder if you are exaggerating slightly for dramatic effect), but I definitely feel out of sorts by the clock change for several days, a week maybe.

I think how affected you are may be worsened by the age of your children. Like some pps have said, losing an hour is hard when you get woken psycho early as it is.

Well mines 11 and still fucking about not going to sleep. I think it’s working the other way since the days of being woken up before CBeebies comes on air 😂

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 31/03/2024 23:24

I do it a bit too. Especially with the dreaded forward shift.

I wish we stayed on GMT at the time. Because that’s the time.

Alwaystired23 · 31/03/2024 23:25

I've been doing this all day.

Exactly.

It’s more lark tyranny too. I feel very much more jet lagged than usual in the summer.

I wish there was a period of time (British Winter Time) when we went an hour behind GMT. I might feel normal then.
