We are going in a week or so. I've never been to the US, let alone Vegas! We'll be there for just under a week. I'm apprehensive about so much! Will I be able to get a cuppa? What to wear? How to get the most out of the few days? If anyone has been recently or knows the hotel and Vegas well please talk to me 😀

It's totally cheese on toast, but then that's Vegas for you.

Best summary of Vegas I've ever come across!

We got married in Vegas and stayed in Paris Hotel. Recommend going to Fremont Street, taking a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and taking in a show, if you can. They are also some super cheesy souvenir shops. I treasured my Las Vegas snowstorm and Las Vegas plush leopard-print cushion for YEARS 😄😄

Titanic exhibition and the Luxor both fantastic!! I went a few years ago. Wouldn’t rush back to vegas but I’m glad I went and would go again if there was something I wanted to see there. Saw Celine Dion there when I went and she was exceptional! Such talent and such a funny lady! Her storytelling between songs was brilliant.

Titanic exhibition off list 😀

Don’t be too hasty. I found it marvellous. Google the big piece as that’s in there on display.
also, there is a monorail behind the strip accessed through the one opposite New York New York (possibly mgm) so no need to walk loads.

Nothingandnobody · 31/03/2024 18:42

I've sent you a pm

Yes we have stayed at the Luxor the pyramid cafe is great for breakfast saves you going out in the morning . There is also a bus stop outside to get around . If you are getting a taxi from the airport say you have been before otherwise they go the long way round and over charge. The hotels are huge and you can walk between the Luxor and other hotels that have shops entertainment etc. VEGAS is insane but an experience you won't forget.

I found it hard to get decent tea in the Starbucks in Vegas! I went to two and both times I asked for it the server looked a bit panicked and just kind of threw me a teabag and pot of water. 😂
And one day at breakfast they brought the tea ingredients but no milk then looked really confused when I asked for some.
I went onto coffee instead for the rest of the trip.

Mrsjayy · 31/03/2024 18:49

We downloaded uber it's fab and the cars have a pull up lane order when you want it don't pre book as there is a booking fee. Try and catch a couple of shows too,

Brilliant advice and ideas. Thank you all so much! I did wonder whether to buy a cheap kettle once there. Haha I can't believe I'm going to Vegas and US for the first time ever and I'm worrying about cuppa teas! I'm going to sit down and look at the shows, hadn't thought about the possibility of museums and what to do in the other hotels. Thanks everyone

You can order in from the cafes in the luxor I wouldn't worry about a kettle just ask for hot tea . Also people can smoke in the casinos so it is a bit smelly but there is ventilation also weed is legal so you smell it everywhere, if anybody ask if you want a photo taken with a showgirl or Elvis say no they charge a fortune.

good timing choice weather-wise, OP; it'll be mid to high 20s but not the huge heat of the summer, and if your feet give out there are plenty of buses on the strip and even a free tram:

I live in Vegas. It's not that warm! It's 10 degrees right now and I have the heating on. The weather has been up and down lately, but the highest the temp has gotten so far is a couple of days of low 20s. Bring layers OP so you can cool down or warm up accordingly

Blahdeblah12345 · 31/03/2024 19:07

Also, the luxor is well known as a dump, miles away from everything and haunted 😄. If there's a possibility of changing hotels I would get somewhere more central. Flamingo, the linq, planet Hollywood would be a similar no frills price range but more convenient locations

Mrsjayy · 31/03/2024 19:09
Looney Tunes Vintage GIF

I didn't think it was a dump .granted it isn't luxurious but it isn't a dump op dont worry.

Mrsjayy · 31/03/2024 19:11

I've no idea what that gif is about.

Florence4170 · 31/03/2024 19:12

I’m afraid the Luxor is booked and paid for. It’ll be fine, we don’t tend to spend too much time in the rooms, anyway.
Thanks so much to those who have contributed and advised, it’s fantastic! Had pms as well, so helpful!

Mrsjayy · 31/03/2024 19:15

We went in winter we just had long sleeve tops and cardigans although if you go to grandcanyon is a bit fresh but it isn't cold like "here" cold.

Blahdeblah12345 · 31/03/2024 19:16

My top recommendations would be a cirque show, eating in some amazing restaurants and a hockey game (Vegas Golden knights are the current champions) The mob museum is very interesting too, we were just there with some visitors and you could easily pass a couple of hours looking at everything.

user1471517095 · 31/03/2024 19:25

If you get a choice ask for a room that is not in the Pyramid, the rooms in the side towers are a lot bigger.

countvoncount · 31/03/2024 19:52

Luxor is absolutely fine!
I go to vegas a lot, and stayed at the Luxor in December last year.
Pyramids rooms are fine, lifts very strange as they go sideways up the pyramid, but fun!
Rooms and hotel clean, nice food court in the atrium, breakfasts, teas, coffees, subway, burgers etc
All reasonable price
Luxor has the titanic exhibition, and the bodies exhibition, as well as. Carrot top the comedian and the blue man group.
Next door is Mandalay bay, lovely shops on the walkway in between them, then the other way is New York New York, and Excalibur.
You'll have a ball, Luxor is totally fine, best of luck to you in the casino!!
Double diamonds is a great game!

MissyB1 · 31/03/2024 19:52

It’s 15 years since we stayed at the Luxor - but we loved it! It’s not miles out, we walked everywhere from the hotel, and I was pregnant at the time! Enjoy yourself OP, I’m jealous, I want to go back now.

Mrsjayy · 31/03/2024 19:55

We walked from the luxor some days we got the bus if we wanted to go further out of town the buses go on a loop both ways its easy to go to a mall or wherever .

twilightcafe · 31/03/2024 19:57

Yes to travel kettle (just check voltage first) and proper tea bags!

EnterNowhere · 31/03/2024 19:57

I've been to Vegas 4 times, Luxor is one of the cheaper/less nice hotels but still would be fine I think. Shooting was fun, the Grand Canyon is a must! Def go to Fremont Street too. There is plenty to do and see in all the hotels tbh. You'll have a great time.

Sidebeforeself · 31/03/2024 19:59

@Puppylucky Bellagio came before Luxor I’m sure

AIstolemylunch · 31/03/2024 20:01

I was in vegas the other week and got English Breakfast tea from one of th emany Starbucks which was fine for a cupp afix - they think it is really weird when you ask for milk to go with it though.

Mrsjayy · 31/03/2024 20:02
