at being suspicious that my neighbour has pinched my dd's comfort toy

dd started nursery last wekk and since then has been inseperable from a cuddly bunny. it was a gift from a friend when she was born. dd was holding it when we left the flat this morning but when we got to nursery - spot was gone. i retraced steps to car, heded straight home, checked the 50 paces we woudl have walked to the car and inside on teh starirwell. no sign. i knocked on teh neighbours doors to see if they had seen it. knocked on teh only flat with kids and enquired to be told no. then their dd walked to the door with a bunny that looked remarkably like spot. i said - it is exactly like that one, to be told that their dd had had it for years. now - i am suspicious as i know the original one was bought in finland and not commonly available over here. in my paranoid state i am mightily suspicious that they have got dd's comforter.
bar calling them liars and demanding it - i dont think there is much i can do. i have rang my friend to see if she reckons they are available to buy and she is trying to remember the name of the small craft shop in tampere finland where she got it!
arghhhh, annoyed at myself for not paying better heed to dd and spot in my haste and stress this morning.

Thats fantastic! Who knows what he went through to escape, probably wriggled through air vents or burrowed through the shag pile. What a lovely end to the story!

kitbit · 28/03/2008 20:26

oh that's fab! no need for an emergency stunt double from Finland then!

AliciaJohns · 28/03/2008 20:26

So pleased that Spot is back!!! I live in fear of something like this happening! Ds cannot and will not go to sleep without his rabbit and I can't get another one cos it was bought in France. I think I might have to ban it from leaving the house!

Bridie3 · 28/03/2008 20:28

Oh that's great, weeonion! I'm so pleased.

mumofdjandbabies · 28/03/2008 20:42

maybe spot made a run for it from their house , he no doubt knows where his bread is buttered

Why don't you suggest getting both cuddlies together for a tea party.

A fiver says the other one will be a no show.

StealthPolarBear · 28/03/2008 21:18

Excellent news
Maybe she's an MNer and had a guilt attack!
Very good idea LGJ

callmeovercautious · 28/03/2008 22:04

I love Brees idea

macdoodle · 28/03/2008 22:40

aaah
We were on hols and DD found a small ted by the pool she was desperate to keep it (she is 6 and has plenty of cuddly toys)...I asked her how she would feel if she dropped her blanky and some other little girl took it home...she very bravely took the ted to lost property and handed it in the lady was very lovely and praised her kindness ...
How could you keep some other childs teddy knowing they might be heartbroken and searching for it

mehdismummy · 28/03/2008 23:02

Ohhh what a relief WO! Fancy stealing a bunny from an 11 month old.

CrushWithEyeliner · 29/03/2008 09:25

oh i'm loving this story - she obviously placed it back there and felt bad. What a weirdo!

Disenchanted · 29/03/2008 09:32

Ha!

Id go round and say 'Oh we found it outside, Im really sorry for thinking you had her! They were identical though. Could I have a look at yours as ours has its tag missing and Id like to know the manufacturers name in case he ever gets lost again'

Then wait for the excuse....

quint · 29/03/2008 09:56

In my defence, I was only about 7 and there was absolutely nobody about - it was washed thoroughly by my Mum as well. I wouldn't take a toy now though.

arthursmum · 29/03/2008 11:58

Uncle Bulgaria!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You didn't decide to go travelling like my mum said.

LaComtesse · 29/03/2008 13:50

He hitched a lift to London and then stayed for the next 30 years .

EffiePerine · 29/03/2008 13:52

Fantastic . Am also suspected My Bunny made a bid for freedom...

Now you need to get a replacement in case he gets nicked lost again
