We cancelled Sky and got Apple TV boxes instead! Sooooo much better

still pay for Netflix and broadband but a fraction of the cost of Sky

Dotjones · 27/03/2024 14:35

I definitely don't use an IPTV service to get just about every channel in the world for under a tenner a month.

LondonPapa · 27/03/2024 14:37

I've got a VPN and set it to Eastern Europe, subscribed to one of the services out there for £20 per month for films, tv and the complete sports package. Very good value. Sky at £180 is far too much.

SpeedyDrama · 27/03/2024 14:40

I pay £25 for Now broadband (I think?). It’s crap though, I need to find a better company and I’d rather pay a bit more. I don’t have sky/virgin as there’s nothing worth paying for on there for me. Kids have ADHD (as do I 🤣) so they’re not bothered to sit in front of kids tv or movies. Have a smart TV with YouTube/streaming services, I pay for Nexflix and Prime, use my ex’s Disney account (he uses my prime). I also have an accidental Paramount account which I keep meaning to cancel 😑. I prefer streaming as can stick on old programmes for background noise, just don’t have the care for many new shows (apart from The Gentlemen which was absolutely fantastic and worth a whole year of Netflix payments!)

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/03/2024 14:42

Just over £30pcm for Broadband, but DH can claim half of that back from.his work.

No TV packages. I can't imagine paying £180 per month to watch TV. We used to have Netflix but cancelled it as we rarely watched it. We do have Prime but rarely watch that either.

Out of interest, how do people fit in the time to watch that much TV? Not trying to be goady, but after we've stopped working, cooked dinner and sat down in front of the TV We have maybe 2 hours. I can't think what's worth watching in that time that we couldn't get on FreeView. Do people watch series that are only available on Sky? Do most people with these large TV packages eat really early and go to bed really late?

£52 for broadband including NOW tv and Netflix

srailfonaidraug · 27/03/2024 15:01

£24 for broadband and Freesat.

Anguish · 27/03/2024 15:07

They beg me to come back periodically even though the engineer came and told us he couldn't phsyically attach the signal dish to our property. ugh.

Probably because you don't need a dish for sky anymore.

oldgreysquirreltest · 27/03/2024 15:34

We pay £7/month for Netflix and £23 for broadband. No TV licence or other subscriptions. Barely watch an hour of TV per day, it's not worth having anything else!

BMW6 · 27/03/2024 15:36

We're with Sky (and gave been for about 15 years).

We pay just under £80pm for TV, unlimited broadband & phone (landline).

We don't have sports or movies though, as Netflix is included and we also have Paramount + and Disney + via friends accounts.

Soubriquet · 27/03/2024 15:39

I pay £38 for broadband with ee

then I pay for Netflix, Disney, Amazon and now tv.

BestIsWest · 27/03/2024 15:46

We pay £46 for Virgin Fibre broadband, landline, TV and Sky movies.

We also have Prime, Disney+ and Apple TV at the moment, sometimes swap them for Netflix, Now TV etc.

DH phones and negotiates every time the contract is up for renewal.

UnderTheSink · 27/03/2024 15:57

£34 pm for broadband with virgin.
I have IPTV which gives me every sky channel, Disney, BT and Netflix etc for £30 per year

BloodandGlitter · 27/03/2024 16:00

£25 for Fibre. Yohoho and a bottle of rum fufils the rest.

PercyJackson · 27/03/2024 16:31

We pay £74 for Virgin TV (full package including Sky Sports, Sky Cinema), broadband (1GB) and phone (all calls anytime included).

hayless · 27/03/2024 16:33

Some of these prices are insanity. I get that the sports coverage is expensive but the rest is mad.

I wouldn't mind if telly was good but the vast, vast majority of it is absolute shite!

We either watch (well, I read) something rubbish on catch-up, or buy DVDs secondhand from when stuff used to be good (Sopranos, the Wire etc)

Changeusernameseeusernamehistory · 27/03/2024 16:34

I’m off to the seven seas ☠️

NoWordForFluffy · 27/03/2024 16:37

We pay £28.50 for broadband (RPI increase from £25 this month), £13.35 for TV licence, £6.99 for Prime (via O2, predominantly for delivery), and currently £1 for Sky Cinema via Now.

We don't have an aerial, so watch everything via the Smart TV.

Lidlisthebusiness · 27/03/2024 16:47

I pay £46 for broadband, Netflix, Disney and Prime. I could never bring myself to pay anywhere near ehat lots seems to pay for TV.

AuntieMarys · 27/03/2024 16:51

We pay £41 for superfast broadband and netflix with Sky. Have got apple free for a year through phone.

caringcarer · 27/03/2024 16:54

I pay £168 to Virgin Media for superfast broadband, full TV package, Sky Sport, Sky Movies, BT Sport, phone line and 1 mobile contract. I don't get Sky Atlantic though. I'm going to review it because I've got a new phone contract with Smarty for unlimited data, unlimited calls, unlimited text and unlimited tethering. All for £16 a month for a year.

Eukanuba · 27/03/2024 17:00

If you're thinking of switching- get a quote from a competitor. As a pp said , be firm and prepared to negotiate. We were paying £150 with Sky after the contract ended . We were quoted £85 with Virgin , Sky brought ours down to £83 .

hushabybaby · 27/03/2024 17:01

That seems a ridiculous amount to pay for sky!

Even if you subscribe separately for all the streaming!

I cancelled sky years ago, complete waste of money.

Although if I want to watch the latest sky stuff I subscribe to now tv , watch it all and cancel it.

BrokenCamberEdge · 27/03/2024 18:38

Are you crazy? I pay £25 a month for broadband then £60 a year to have the fire stick ‘fixed’ to get all that you have and more.
