Do your work colleagues actually know it's Easter this weekend and that Friday and Monday are Bank Holidays?

After some recent emails and conversations, I think some people just don't know. Maybe they are just out of the loop on these things.

For those saying ‘but I don’t have kids’, have you not noticed the shit tonne of chocolate eggs in every store you enter and hot cross buns bobbing up all over the place. And has not that led you to wonder ‘hmm, it must be Easter soon?’.

To be fair, the Easter confectionery isn't a great clue as to when Easter actually is as they start putting them out on Boxing Day!

And I do think that's led to people not really knowing exactly when Easter falls as we've been seeing the stuff in the shop for months.

IME it doesn't matter when Easter actually is, you will ALWAYS get someone telling you it's early or late this year.

No-one ever says "Easter's just at the right time this year, isn't it?"

That's why I'm never actually surprised at when it is - I always just assume it's going to be later or earlier than I expected 😁

That is so true! Anyone would think it was a moveable feast 😆

Fair point Zonder...it's a good clue 😂

@IloveAslan We've been hounded with Easter stuff for months 🤣

takemeawayagain · 27/03/2024 12:48

How could anyone forget? They get an extra two days off work, I don't know how anyone could forget that.

Katiesaidthat · 27/03/2024 12:54

Everyone knows where I am, even the English. We get Thursday and Friday off.

Not everyone gets bank holidays off work. I do get them off work but they're not marked in my work calendar and they were a pleasant surprise when I found out this week

AlexaPlaySomeHappyHardcore · 27/03/2024 13:08

I work in retail and bank holidays are a big deal so yes, we all know it’s Easter this weekend. Pretty sure I’m not the only one sick of the sight of Easter eggs and looking forward to it being over.

I can see why it hasn’t registered for some people though as it’s early this year.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 27/03/2024 13:09

We all work in retail. We are only too well aware... sigh.

Who is "they"?
So many professions don't get them off. I've never had them off in any job I've had and I've done lots of different things.
So yes I definitely forgot
And whoever said surely people are making plans to see family.. bloody hell look outside your bubble 😆

Loads of people work bank holidays as normal.

KimberleyClark · 27/03/2024 13:58

I’m retired and childless and not forgotten about Easter. I don’t think of it as predominantly for children. DH and I exchange eggs (grown up ones!).

MassageForLife · 27/03/2024 15:21

I hardly ever know when Easter is. I'm not religious, and bank holidays are just added into our holiday allowance to take whenever we want.

Some of my colleagues will definitely know, as some take bank holidays, some are religious and some have children involved with Easter events. I suspect that not everyone will know, because not everyone needs to or is interested.

Singlespies · 27/03/2024 15:45

I am a practising Christian and to be honest had forgotten that we are having Friday and Monday off - but that is because work is so busy that I am not yet in winding down mode.

TabbyM · 27/03/2024 15:53

Yes and no, only Monday is a holiday here. Get public hols added to annual allowance which sounds good but in reality is difficult in a small team as everyone wants the time off; wish the whole organisation closed as public transport is decreased so tricky travelling in and nobody expects us to be open anyway.

Only if they have children really.

Eh? It's not just people with children that get bank holidays off work!

(I know not everyone gets bank holidays off, but a large proportion of people do)

Yes I don't understand the relevance of children either. It's not even like Easter is in the middle of DS's school holiday this year. They break up tomorrow.

naffall · 27/03/2024 16:36

It had slipped my mind that it's this weekend but I am working the next 4 days and it's the start of the school holidays here so I knew it was sometime soon.

BlueThursday · 27/03/2024 16:37

Yes, we work in a Bank

IN a bank? An actual physical branch?
The resurrection of banks would be an Easter miracle!

IloveAslan · 27/03/2024 07:49

Whether people are working or not I don't understand that anyone can't know it is Easter! Here there are adverts everywhere for Easter sales and specials, and of course people are buying eggs like there's no tomorrow.

I can see how it’s easy not to realise how quickly it’s come round, and that it’s this weekend. I generally shop online so rarely go into supermarkets, and never watch TV other than Netflix or the odd thing on iPlayer so don’t see many ads. I read the times, FT and economist online and they’re also not full of Easter ads, and I don’t have children. So whether Easter is this weekend, next or the weekend after wouldn’t necessarily be immediately obvious!! As others have said, eggs have been available since Christmas, and no one sends Easter cards. Even as a child the only person I knew who did was one of my grandmothers, and since she died 20 years ago I haven’t had an Easter card to remind me!

I think the point is if you have children you’ll be aware when the end of term and the Easter holiday is, which will give you a pointer to which weekend Easter is likely to be

BatshitCrazyWoman · 27/03/2024 17:32

No, we're all aware, because it's very relevant to our organisation! We have remarked a lot about how early Easter is, though.

Whatevs23 · 27/03/2024 17:34

I don't live in the UK, so we don't have bank holidays on Friday or Monday. They are just normal days for us. And as we aren't Christians, we don't really celebrate Easter, apart from sometimes having some chocolate! Easter has kind of crept up on us too.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2024 17:45

I thought the spring holiday isn't necessarily at Easter nowadays?
