Do your work colleagues actually know it's Easter this weekend and that Friday and Monday are Bank Holidays?

After some recent emails and conversations, I think some people just don't know. Maybe they are just out of the loop on these things.

I'm not sure that's legal?

Perfectly legal. Days are available to take as holiday at other times and our overall holiday allowance is above the legal minimum anyway. Our work is open as normal Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Honestly I don’t. I figure it out usually around Mardi Gras. The last 2 years I’ve been pleasantly surprised that I’ve been on holiday in the Caribbean over Easter… I’ve met both the Jamaican and the Grenadian Easter Bunny!

Ha! That's brilliant!! ❤️

Zwicky · 26/03/2024 23:02

In my work every day is the same except Christmas Day, but there are eggs all over the place with peoples names written on and threats not to touch so they definitely know and we also know half our outpatients won’t turn up. Easter Sunday is always a bugger for people not attending, as is Mother’s Day. They do creep up on people.

Brainded · 26/03/2024 23:03

good Friday is a bank holiday…but NOT a public holiday do businesses may still be open as employees are not entitled to public holiday pay…well this is the case in the rep of Ireland anyway.

You can tell the people who are burned out from their jobs, yes!

What kind of halfwit would love their job so much they would want to work bank holidays?!

That’s a bit blinkered…there are plenty of organisations that operate every day of the year and just add the 8 Bank holidays to the 25 / 28 or whatever days contractual holiday. There are times in the past I’d much rather have had the flexibility to take 38 days when I chose, not have 8 fixed for me.

Elphame · 26/03/2024 23:14

I'll be working all weekend.

What I hadn't realised til last week was that it is the clock change. I hate the switch to BST, it takes me at least a fortnight to adjust to it.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/03/2024 23:17

The rest of my team is in the US, they don't have these holidays. No idea whether they know or care that it's Easter.

I nearly always work on bank hols - and take a different day off in lieu when the roads and anywhere we'd want to go are less crowded. What kind of halfwit takes the same day off as everyone else if they can avoid it?Grin

If you look at the Gov UK website https://www.gov.uk/bank-holidays on a Bank Holiday it will display some bunting.

Although I don't think it appears for Good Friday but should be there on Easter Monday.

At Christmas it's tinsel :)

Jo

Perhaps they should drape it in mourning on Friday?

Maybe the kind of 'half wit' who appreciates getting paid 'time and 2 thirds' for working it? 🤷‍♀️
And then gets a different day off instead.

If you're unfortunate enough to end up in a hospital over the holiday, you might even meet one of these half wits!

WildBear · 26/03/2024 23:33

Yes I knew. Booked tomorrow and Thursday as AL so I shan't be seen again for a week :-)

ZetuianRose · 26/03/2024 23:35

I love not knowing when bank holidays are! Surprise day off! 😄

Cazpar · 26/03/2024 23:36

We know, given the mass of 31 March deadlines that now have to be brought forward to 28 March all while trying to plan for the looming financial year end which arrives almost immediately after the holiday.

I enjoy Easter but it's very inconveniently timed this year.

TroolyScrumptious · 26/03/2024 23:37

You know the clocks go forward too this weekend?!🤦‍♀️

DigitalDust · 26/03/2024 22:52

You can tell the people who love their jobs, can’t you?

And no, I don't love my job! It's stressful, under-resourced, unappreciated, under-valued and much too pressurised. Is that ok with you?????!!

Well for you!! We're not all in that fortunate place!

Bully for you that you have that option! So many of us don't, but we're happy to hang out with family at home.

It's not "blinkered" at all! Some of us don't have any choice in the matter but are grateful to get a day off to spend with our loved ones!

Treesinmygarden · 26/03/2024 23:42

Jesus Christ, some of you could start a row in an empty room!!!!

Jaxhog · 26/03/2024 23:45

I think people without children at home could have been caught out.

But how many people know the clocks go forward on Sunday?

Notateacheranymore · 26/03/2024 23:46

I work for a co that only closes 25th Dec.

It's come around too early this year

Look in the sky at the full moon, the 21st being last week, that's why it's so early.

CharlotteBog · 26/03/2024 23:49

Our group are international, only 3 of us in the UK, others are in Hong Kong, Germany, US, New Zealand, France and Singapore.

All the UK staff know it's Easter. The rest are informed via the "who's in the office this week" email which the team administrator sends round every week.

It's interesting seeing all the different holidays pop up week to week.

Treesinmygarden · 26/03/2024 23:53

I'm public sector. We get an email informing us of our bank holidays every year but they don't really change. I don't know why some posters have been arseholes about it?

DigitalDust · 26/03/2024 23:56

i am confused why you seem to be reacting like that to my post? I meant that the people who love their jobs are the ones who don’t realise it’s a bank holiday.

Why would I be ok or not ok with your job? I don’t think I know you?

ChewbaccasMrs · 27/03/2024 00:32

I didn't realise till my DH told me today and what makes it worse is our DGS and our DD are coming to see us for the week starting from the bank holiday and I thought I had another week 😶.

But in my defence I'd been on bedrest because I'm a fool and managed to damage my back,so it's felt like Christmas does to me where I have no idea what day it is or what the date is 😁.
