Is it seen to BU to go to the toilet at work?

Posting here for traffic. In the office this morning, there were 2 members of my team having a moan. Essentially, someone had gone to the toilet and had sprayed some of the provided air freshener. Staff member moans that the staff member in question should have waited until they got home before they "stink out the work toilets".

Staff members in question are mid 20s. It started a stupid debate in the office and basically, the older generation see no issue with going to the toilets at work. Younger generation claim they would be mortified and state they would not poop at work!

Is it a generational thing then? I'm of the mindset, if you have to go, you have to go!

YABU - Get a grip - poop away
YANBU - Gross! Hold it in until you get home!

In almost 40 years of working in offices I have never heard anyone say that people should wait until they go home.

Do you really have that poor reading comprehension? Bless 😘

Do you?

Abbimae · 25/03/2024 19:03

It’s really shocking that women seem to think that other women shouldn’t poo? Are we living in the dark ages

Do some people have magic arseholes that can hold a shit in all day? Wouldn't that be horribly uncomfortable and bad for you?
If it's frowned upon to use a toilet for its intended purpose is it better to shit your pants?
So many questions...

@BreatheAndFocus - so you can just, go whenever is convenient for you within that days schedule?

Like today you could go at 9am, before you set off for work, and tomorrow you'd be fine to go at 1pm for some reason and the next day you could schedule your poo for 3.30pm or 8am etc?

You know that isn't normal, yeah? Most people do not have poo just sitting in the rectum waiting to be released when it suits them, most people can only hang on so long and then they have to go. Whilst eating a healthy diet and at regular intervals can make the need to poo somewhat predictable, it's not THAT controllable for most folks.

I do hope you aren't holding it in until your schedule allows, it'll lead to an overstretched rectum and eventually, fecal incontinence and then you may have no choice at all about where you poo!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2024 19:08

Do people really need to poo every 8 hours?

Some people might, but it's more that probably quite a lot of people don't have the time or they just aren't ready to go before they leave the house.

OrlandointheWilderness · 25/03/2024 19:09

It's a toilet. I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with people using it for its intended purpose. Bit mad to suggest people should not use it if they need too!

CeriB82 · 25/03/2024 19:09

We have a phantom “leave the shit in the shitter” at work.

doesn’t bother me one bit that she shits, but is sure bothers me that the dirty bitch leaves without flushing and presumably without washing her hands.

you gotta shit. But clean up after it

StoneTheCrone · 25/03/2024 19:11

I say go when you have to.

I once worked with someone young and new who hated pooing at work so didn't eat or drink anything until 2pm each day. After being cold, hungry, thirsty and miserable for weeks she eventually collapsed and had a fit at her desk. She poos freely now.

Well, that would depend, wouldn’t it? Firstly, it would depend if you were ill or had some issue. In that case, yes, you might need to go at work. If you had a need to go at, say 4pm, you might be able to hold on.

But my post wasn’t aimed at people with bowel problems or who are pregnant or have something that causes them issues. It was aimed at people who don’t go in the morning and then need to go at work - simply because they either couldn’t be arsed to get up earlier to go, or because they think that you’re supposed to just go along through the day, wait till you feel you’re about to explode and only then realise you need a poo, meaning they need to go at work/at a friend’s house. Poor planning.

Mainly it’s not wanting to get up earlier, I think.

I'm not ill, or pregnant, and I don't have "issues". I just tend to need to go more than once a day. So even if I go a home, I will very likely need to go again at work by early afternoon, and I absolutely can't wait the 3 or 4 hours till I get home.

Sometime I am someone who doesn't go at home before work, for the simple reason that I don't need to. It's got fuck all to do with not getting up early enough, I get up at the same time each day, most mornings I do need to go, so I go, some, morning I don't need to do don't, but then will need to go during the morning at work. What is your suggestion for the mornings I don't need to go? As others have said, you can't poo on command. If my body isn't ready to go before work, I can't make it ready.

SuperstarDeejay · 25/03/2024 19:18

I don't need to go during the work day but office life has really opened my eyes (or nose) to how much vile stink one human body can produce. Some people I work with must live on KFC and lager. I'd never say anything of course, but it's been bad enough to make me retch some days.

JenniferBooth · 25/03/2024 19:19

@BreatheAndFocus Are you one of those employers that thinks their employees can shit to a timetable.

myladybelle · 25/03/2024 19:19

Honestly would cringe so much hearing someone talking about poo/ people pooing at work.
(Way more than noticing that someone had poked at work - which I wouldn't ever register)

YouJustDoYou · 25/03/2024 19:19

Gen Z are entitled twats. Ignore.

Playingintheshadow · 25/03/2024 19:24

What a load of crap!

Thepeopleversuswork · 25/03/2024 19:25

This predates the millennials. I am in my 50s and I can remember people being like this 30 years ago.

I can completely understand feeling uncomfortable about pooing when you know others can smell it but anyone who thinks it’s rude or bad form needs to have a word with themselves.

What kind of fastidious and neurotic society do we live in where one of the most basic biological processes is seen as a source of shame?

Beago1dfish · 25/03/2024 19:26

Going for a poo at work: A-ok. Telling me you’re going for a poo because you’ve been desperate all afternoon then returning to tell me you’ve done your poo: not ok. (This actually happened. I did not need that information.)

Thepeopleversuswork · 25/03/2024 19:28

@BreatheAndFocus your post is breathtaking. Do you expect people to starve themselves because you don’t like watching them eat and feel they “couldn’t be arsed” to eat at a timetable that suits you?

HussellRobbs · 25/03/2024 19:28

What annoys me is the people who put down layers of toilet roll to muffle the sound of having a poo. It just leaves a big cloggy mess for the cleaners when it inevitably won’t all flush.

I hate the mess people leave for cleaners in work and public toilets.

Moidershewrote · 25/03/2024 19:29

They are quite literally anally retentive😂

How pathetic! EVERYONE SHITS💩

It’s also POO, not poop🤨

Playingintheshadow · 25/03/2024 19:32

Maddy70 · 25/03/2024 15:36

I would never poo in work....its gross wait until you go home

Don't be so bloody ridiculous!! Plenty of people have bowel issues - I'm one of them - and if I have to go, I go! Could have been 10+ times a day at worst (not all in work).

How stupid and judgey! Why can't people shit in the shitter?

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 25/03/2024 19:32

Ha! I went for a poo the other day at work, I'm not precious, it wasn't fragrant! A colleague went to walk in as I walked out and I told her to leave it 5 minutes.....we laughed, and she went to another toilet and we laughed even more about it when she came back down. I really don't care.

Toilets are there for 2 things. Everyone does it. I can't stand people who bitch and moan about it.

You got to poo, you've got to poo!!

OMG this post is breathtaking in its sheer stupidity!!

Can you make your bowels open on command? Maybe you could educate the rest of us lesser shitting mortals who can't??!!

Christ on a bike!! I have heard it all now!

The people who put down layers of TP to muffle the sound probably work with an office full of anally retentive twats who are always on the alert in case anyone has the temerity to want a shit during work time !!
