Am I cruel?

Hi,

This is a bit random.

Yesterday I was on the phone to a animal rescue place enquiring about volunteering.

The backdoor was open and my cat chased it and went to eat it. Luckily I intervened in time.

Last year he was stung, ended up really sick.

I apologised to the woman on the phone and said if I cannot get rid of the bee I will Hoover it up.

She replied that's really cruel and we don't have employees who harm animals and hung up the phone before I could explain.

Granted what I said wasn't the best, but it was massive and I was trying to get the bee out but it wouldn't budge.

Meanwhile my cat is stuck in the conservatory until it leaves.

Told my family - they agreed I was cruel.

Out of hours vet is £250 and he would have been stressed going the vets even before he was stung.

I feel awful. The bee died after I sprayed wasp spray on it.

If things are outside, I leave them alone. Once they get in, they are fair game. They could bite or sting us or our pets, or bring germs if a mouse got in. I try to shoo them outside but if they won't go, my electric tennis racket comes out (flies and wasps). I would try not to kill a bee. But last year there must have been a nest nearby because we kept getting wasps come in and I killed those fuckers with no regrets.

Some posters are as bat shit, as the OP 😆

Namechange666 · 25/03/2024 11:19

Bees are the one thing that helps with our pollination. We wouldn't have food without bees. Think about that before you harm one again.

It's ridiculous to kill it. You could have got someone to remove it for you, even a neighbour!

I dislike bees, even more so wasps (only due to their stings) but I would never kill one.

toomanyy · 25/03/2024 11:27

What...convenient timing!

Wasps sting far more than bees. Bees will only sting if their life is threatened.

"On a few occasions my dog has been attacked by other dogs and I have absolutely kicked the fxxk out of them to protect my dog. "

Did ye aye?

Cat was protected from imminent death by bee as it was in the conservatory

wtf is an electric tennis racket?

Getting the feeling that this is one of those 'wind them up and watch them go' postsHmm

you also display remarkable courage and strength in the face of adversity.

She hoovered up a bee, she didn't take on a tiger. What adversity are you talking about? What strength and courage? Fair enough to think what she did was fine, but it definitely wasn't remotely brave.

She's clearly taking the piss 😂

I'm assuming that pp is taking the piss with that.

Courage and strength in the face of adversity about.....a bee 🤣🤣🤣

YANBU. you were looking after your cat. I would never ever harm an animal but if my dog was in need of protection I wouldn’t think twice about it. On a few occasions my dog has been attacked by other dogs and I have absolutely kicked the fxxk out of them to protect my dog. Try not to feel bad. In the heat of the moment you made a call and I’m sure the ecosystem will survive minus one bee!

I have absolutely kicked the fxxk out of them to protect my dog.

Did the whole park clap?

That OP had to discuss hoovering up a species under threat whilst talking to an animal rescue about volunteering.

Wow, I'm both repelled and drawn to it.

I only kill things that can bite and sting, with it. I have mesh and door curtains now to help stop things coming in but sometimes they occasionally get through.

AnotherForumUser · 25/03/2024 11:54

YABU. You were cruel and frankly stupid-bees are in a dreadful decline and we need them. The rescue place has had a lucky escape.

BlastedPimples · 25/03/2024 12:15

Don't ever kill bees.

LadyKenya · 25/03/2024 13:12

Hmm

RobertaFirmino · 25/03/2024 13:26

The bee is much more important than the cat. Bees perpetuate the ecosystem and produce food. Cats (like humans) serve no purpose.

CurlewKate · 25/03/2024 13:58

When I'm in the heat of the moment, I always go and get the hoover.

Meangirl6 · 25/03/2024 19:00

My cat is super allergic. He's not clever and tries to eat bees and wasps. Summer is a nightmare.

I had the back open for inc windows for over an hour. I put him in the conservatory which I don't like doing when it's warm. It's like a sauna.

Plus he gets very distressed in there or behind closed doors.

I know it was wrong and I was stupid. I was rushed and didn't think it through. I intended to hoover and release it outside by opening the hoover draw.

I have a phobia of insects/spiders etc. I opted for the wasps killer because I didn't really think my actions through.

My family have had words with me too. I panicked and was fearful about my cat eating it.

No my cat is more important than anything else. Unfortunately he's not very clever and chooses to eat bees and wasps.

He's been hospitalised 3 times previously. He is very distressed when he goes the vets.

Bees are important for the ecosystem, or something like that, and they don’t usually sting. So you shouldn’t have hoovered it up no. But it doesn’t make you cruel, anybody that thinks so needs to look up the meaning of the word, or the meaning of the word ‘hyperbole’ and reflect a little. I also don’t see how it disqualifies you from volunteering at an animal charity. If they are that flaky you’re better off not there I reckon.

Thank you.

But I do feel cruel though. I genuinely reacted without thinking and was panicking whilst trying to have an interview on the phone.

I can't have those mesh things over my door because my cat demands to go in the garden and I have to work so can't keep opening and closing the door. Plus windows.

He's a house cat and as I say not very clever so doesn't like to venture out of the garden.

Spot the glaring contradictions.

He demands to go out in the garden but is a house cat who doesn't like to go in the garden?

Either try to make the story believable or make your mind up.
