Is the tide turning regarding gender ideology?

Sparklybutold · 24/03/2024 18:23

I exist in a world where the harms of gender ideology is very prevalent. I am also seeing there is a turning of conversations. With more cases being brought forward of the harm done owing to gender affirmative care and gender ideology I am hoping that this continues. Over the weekend was a major conference looking at this very issue, again this conference was targeted to be shut down (unsuccessfully) and the TRAs arrived shouting there usual nonsense. I am seeing a shift in the debate and I'm curious what others are experiencing in their own worlds?

Yabu to post here when there's a topic for this.

Nope, we are not hiding away any more. This affects women and children everywhere, so it can be on the main board.

Son's trans [ been nb well over 10 years] spouse and son are very happy with many gender non conforming friends. Sorry to disappoint you.
Not.

Sorry this had to be your first response, op. But not really surprised 🙄

You are comparing GC women to child abusers and rapists now? I have seen it all, truly, unless I have misunderstood you.

coxesorangepippin · 17/04/2024 20:08

I work in an industry that involves gender ideology and all I can say is that it seems like a fad from last year. It's rarely mentioned.

Weight loss seems like a bigger interest so far

ParentsTrapped · 17/04/2024 20:14

I really hope so. My kids are still young and oblivious and I am hoping that this has all been shown to be the most hideous and dangerous load of brainwashing by the time they are in their teens.

As a child I was a “tomboy” in that I wasn’t interested in stereotypically girly games, loved running, climbing trees, catching insects and getting dirty. I loved George from the Famous Five and had my hair cut short, loved it when people thought I was a boy. Thankfully my parents are sensible anyway but I often wonder if I had been born 30 years later to a different family I could have been labelled and persuaded to transition.

I’m now an entirely average heterosexual woman and so unbelievably grateful every day for the female body that has allowed me to grow and breastfeed my children. I still don’t wear much make up and prefer trousers!

At a work training thing recently in the US (I work for Us company in the U.K.) we were all forced to listen to a lecture from a transwoman about the “power of storytelling”, and the story was about how they knew they were a woman because they loved “twirly dresses”. The US audience lapped it up, but there was plenty of eye rolling from the U.K. contingent.

I just care very strongly about a medical scandal as large as Thalidomide. Don't you?

Treatments have been based on ideology and not evidence and thousands of children have likely been permanently harmed because of it.

Both major parties back the review in full, the British Medical Journal has back ed it - it's fact based not ideology based, thank god.

How are you hiding away? The threads from the feminist topic appear in Active.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 17/04/2024 20:22

Believing in biological fact is being equated with Rotherham gangs now is it? Good grief.

You are free to not read this thread too. Just like all the other AIBU threads that have nothing to do with being unreasonable but are here to get more responses.

I was just wondering why you think the Feminist topic doesn't appear on the 'main board' when it clearly appears in Active and since when was AIBU the 'main board?' anyway.

But as you were. I'll just hide this one.

KateMiskin · 17/04/2024 20:26

Like I hide all the Kate threads that escape the AIBU section. AIBU is definitely the section that get the most views.

KateMiskin · 17/04/2024 20:30

Aargh, I meant escape the Royals section, of course.

RazzberryGem · 17/04/2024 20:40

It's a social contagion that has been wildly exaggerated and I have no idea how it's become so normalised.
I do believe some people have very real cases of gender dysphoria but nothing like the scale of what we're experiencing in society now. It's almost always the vulnerable people with other mental health disorders, a history of trauma / sexual abuse and often people on the autistic spectrum. There's a huge lie being fed to them that changing their gender will somehow empower them and make everything better and it simply isn't true. The underlying problems are still there, the mental health problems are still an issue, suicide rates don't improve, it simply doesn't work as a foolproof plan.

If an adult, that fully understands the risks and implications makes the decision that they fully believe they have gender dysphoria and would be more comfortable living in society as the other gender, that's one thing. It's absolutely disgusting to me though, that people are putting children through this utter bollocks. Children! That are incapable of understanding the long term impact it's going to have on them. They are being utterly failed by adults that should be protecting and looking out for them.

No woman is fully feminine all the time and no man is fully masculine all the time... that's normal ffs! That's called being a human! Why on earth is there some insistence now that "you were born in the wrong body" if you're a girl that likes football...? I mean ... come on! Why are we not encouraging the next generation to love themselves and be proud of who they are without pushing unnecessary struggles and labels onto them?!

EasternStandard · 17/04/2024 20:57

I’d love to think so, the Cass review helped but reading some posts, hearing some politicians and the media there’s still a way to go

LogicLoverLlama · 18/04/2024 13:20

Scotland stopping prescribing puberty blockers today is further validation we're not mental

QuickFetchTheCoffee · 18/04/2024 13:43

@LogicLoverLlama DH was actually so pleased by this he told me enthusiastically about the "news he'd heard". I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd already seen it on Mumsnet!

LogicLoverLlama · 18/04/2024 14:24

Emperors new clothes sums it up. Took one person to properly say "this is a crock of shit" and everyone has come out of the wood work to agree. Amazing we were afraid to before

Son's spouse, who rejects gender stereotypes but is nevertheless the same sex as they ever were, and son are very happy with many friends &c.

There you go.

Abitofalark · 18/04/2024 14:27

BBC Radio 4 programme: The Media Show Thursday 18 April 2024 8pm:

"Last week Dr Hilary Cass published her final report and recommendations to NHS England in her role as Chair of the Independent Review of gender identity services for children and young people. The Cass report recommends a new approach for clinicians. But what might journalism do differently in the way it covers such a polarising subject? We discuss with Hannah Barnes, the author of Time to Think: the Inside Story of the Collapse of the Tavistock’s Gender Service for Children ; and Rebecca Coombes, Head of Journalism at the British Medical Journal."

Some may have heard the programme previously - I believe it's a repeat.

I would be fascinated to hear what the BBC has to say about its own shoddy work of promoting the nonsense of hundreds of gender identities - and self indulgent rubbish book(s) on Woman's Hour - while ignoring serious concerns about social indoctrination and contagion and the scandal of social and medical malpractice. Seems more likely that Hannah Barnes from working in one small niche will be used to provide convenient cover for the whole organisation.

Willyoujustbequiet · 18/04/2024 14:48

Yes absolutely the tide is turning.

Thank fuck for that.

But who would have thought the SNP would have ended up being the authors of their own doom re independence because of their intention to 'protect' men in dresses by prosecuting actual women under the guise of misogyny.

It's a whole new level of batshit in Scotland. I half expect him to insist the moon is made of cheese next.

Labourarepartoftheproblem · 18/04/2024 14:51

I certainly hope so OP.

The damage is already done to the poor children already dragged in to this nonsense of course, but I do feel like people are realising - and accepting - the truth!

Team Science and Truth for the win 😁

Trans ideology has been a gift to men's rights activists.

They are not going to want to back down now that they have got to a point that we don't even have a word to describe adult human females which excludes men in womanface.

Anyone who continues to back 'trans rights' in spite of all of the evidence of harm to women in children is now complicit. The harms are plain to see.

People can wear what they want as far as I am concerned but there are only 2 sexes.

So no I don't think it is over but I'm fucking angry at the damage to women and children and I think the level of anger is rising generally.

We can thank JKR for using her platform to support women and children.
