To think the PoW’s diagnosis makes healthy living seem pointless?

I try my best to live heathily (although definitely not fanatical). I try and stay away from ultra processed foods, try and avoid saturated fat, too much meat etc., try and exercise every week. I’ll have the odd takeaway and definitely overindulge on wine, but always try and be mindful of living heathily because so much information is constantly battering me through the radio, media etc. about getting ill from various foods and not exercising.

I’ve recently lost my mother far too young too, so I suppose it’s particularly on my mind at the moment. But then you hear Kate’s diagnosis, who obviously exercises regularly, has the best instructors, best food, best ingredients, best preparation, and she still falls ill, and it all seems a bit pointless.

AIBU to feel this way? I just wonder whether I really should make an effort to watch what I eat and run when I don’t feel like it if really, what will be will be regardless.

Good

So what is the talk about statins then with the clients you talk to?

Your post: 1931

"Yes and this is what I’m talking about. And this is common as I talk amongst my clients. But no I don’t have any research to show that. Therefore you must be right."

Agree @cakeorwine

It’s really not advisable or professional to talk about something to ‘clients’ if you are not educated to do so.

Especially something medical.

I don’t think you understand what precautionary means with chemo. It means a tumour was found and surgery removed the tumour and further tests will have shown no spread. So the chemo is mopping up any cells that you might not see circulating.

Rather than using chemo to shrink the tumour.

She underwent an operation that wasn't cancer related & afterwards they found cells that were cancerous, it was advised that she undergo preventative treatment, which aims to prevent the cancer coming back. The article was worded this way

Rainydays332 · 25/03/2024 21:36

Not bothering to maintain a healthy lifestyle because you might get cancer anyway is crazy. Besides, the healthier you are at your baseline, the better you’ll cope with surgery, treatments and recovery if you do become unwell.

Nextdoor55 · 25/03/2024 21:41

There's all kinds of reasons to maintain a healthy lifestyle & cancer risk is just one of them.
I developed diabetes a few years ago which runs in my family. I have it very under control without meds, had to change my entire diet & lifestyle, & definitely healthier.

I don’t buy into Kate looking ‘the picture of health’ to me she always looks thin, frail and anxious. Also, wasn’t she a smoker?
We don’t know what cancer she has or her family history so there’s no point speculating about healthy living being pointless. Personally I’d rather eat well and move my body.. even if I do get an illness I’d like to use my body to its full potential and not feel exhausted and shitty

I don't see any of your descriptor, she's a strong sporty woman, frail and anxious are completely at odds with 99% of photos or TV images of her (until her video the other night where she does look rather less than ok). I'm a similar build to her and run ultra marathons 🤷 your description of her just seem ridiculous to me.

Newsenmum · 28/03/2024 21:15

It’s done the opposite, made me want to be more healthy and anxious that I’m not. Being unhealthy js much more likely to cause premature death. Scares me so much.

Also just because she’s slim doesn’t mean she’s necessarily healthy. It’s not about that.

Over the years, I would often find myself wondering why on earth she seemed to look quite sad or grumpy. Her diagnosis confirms my privately held suspicion that psychoneuroimmunology plays a larger role in the development of CA, than we are led to believe.

Lifestooshort71 · 28/03/2024 21:31

I don't agree that over the years she has seemed to 'look quite sad and grumpy'. As she's got older, like a lot of us, she may be developing a bit of a 'resting bitch face' which actually does not reflect one's inner state but is just gravity doing its stuff. I've always felt she looks thoughtful, reflective and engaged.

Always lovely to blame people rather than accept the randomness of life.

Such a nice, heartwarming approach. Hopefully that positive mindset will serve you well

Poppyg123 · 29/03/2024 00:33

Not quite sure how mentioning the oft quoted link between stress and illness is erhm ' blaming people' ; or what this might have to do with any enquiring 'mindset' that happens to point this out tbh !

This just in: RBF gives you cancer.

What’s CA? I think she always looks very fit and healthy. People have different builds. SShe has got thinner since meeting William but she’s under constant scrutiny so is it any wonder! But she’s always been quite androgynous, that’s just her shape.
