Scrambled eggs frying pan or sauce pan?

Don’t say microwave.

I go for frying pan. Loads of butter, low heat, gentle stirring, stop when still a tiny bit runny and they solidify to quivery deliciousness the time you’ve plated up.

DH, on the other hand, chooses a saucepan. I think he has the heat too high or it’s that there’s less surface area so there’s uneven cooking and they’re just not as good.

He swears he’s right and that “all chefs” use a saucepan.

So who IBU?

Non stick frying pan, very lightly beaten egg, strained. Melt large knob of butter, gently move eggs around over a low heat, season. Done.

Onabench · 21/03/2024 21:45

I use a frying pan but the smallest one I have, 20cm. Same method as you

maudelovesharold · 21/03/2024 21:45

Have never made scrambled eggs in a frying pan. Might give it a try! Usually a saucepan or microwave. However, more important (to me) than the means of cooking, is making sure all the horrid stringy bits and red flecks are removed before whisking!

Sauce pan, butter, very low heat, stirring near constantly, add a dollop of creme fraishe part way through them being cooked.

My DH makes them like this. I HATE the consistency.

Melt butter in a frying pan, teaspoon of milk per egg, add very well seasoned fork whisked eggs and don't, for the love of all that is holy, stir continuously!

PotatoPudding · 21/03/2024 21:47

Whatever is cleanest and nearest but I prefer them from a saucepan.

Picklestop · 21/03/2024 21:59

Saucepan. Butter and eggs, dollop of creme fraiche at the end after removing from heat.

CranfordScones · 21/03/2024 22:04

Personally, saucepan. But I'm open-minded enough to consider there may be other, possibly better, ways.

KitKatChunki · 21/03/2024 22:06

Was always told never to add milk, just butter and use a saucepan. They are meant to be wet and buttery, not firm.

ElinorDashwood68 · 21/03/2024 22:08

Frying pan with butter

askingaquestionaboutthis · 21/03/2024 22:08

Microwave

MisfitMusic · 21/03/2024 22:08

Frying pan, did not know people cooked them in a saucepan until now. Not sure what difference it makes but not willing to take the risk.

Ourshoddyhouse · 21/03/2024 22:09

Saucepan, low heat, stir constantly. Take off heat before fully cooked and leave as the residual heat continues cooking the eggs.

Soubriquet · 21/03/2024 22:09

I don’t eat scrambled eggs. I don’t even cook them. No one in this house eats them and yet I still say frying pan

LakieLady · 21/03/2024 22:09

Saucepan, butter, no milk, salt and freshly ground black pepper, thoroughly whisked using a conical spring whisk, cooked quickly with non-stop stirring.

DP thought he made fantastic scrambled eggs, but had to concede mine were even better.

mitogoshi · 21/03/2024 22:10

Frying pan, just beaten eggs, black pepper and cook in olive oil.

Glitterybee · 21/03/2024 22:10

Your way is 100% correct

my mum makes them your DHs way and I honestly hated scrambled eggs until I became an adult and learnt how to make them properly for myself

charliefair · 21/03/2024 22:10

I'm not fussed and would use whichever came to hand first. I draw the line at microwaving them though. Yuk.

livelovelough24 · 21/03/2024 22:12

Very interesting 🤔. I would not even think to use a sauce pan, I mean it is used for making...sauces. So frying pan for me every time.

ObliviousCoalmine · 21/03/2024 22:12

Mum2jenny · 21/03/2024 21:28

Microwave every time. But never a frying pan. A saucepan if no microwave.

Heathen!

Serenity45 · 21/03/2024 22:13

Saucepan because that's how Delia does them. Saw one of her shows as a young teen and have made them the same ever since. Never let me down!

mitogoshi · 21/03/2024 22:13

And I cook them fast, 30 seconds ish. I prefer them this way, don't like soggy eggs like you get in cafes etc

livelovelough24 · 21/03/2024 22:13

I have never cooked anything in microwave, btw, just warm up my dinner.

Whatever one is clean!

Or is the easiest to clean afterwards! I have a wok/frying pan, ie a fairly deep frying pan that's wok shaped, which I use for absolutely everything, even omelettes which I sometimes toss if the top's still a bit runny!

senua · 21/03/2024 22:15

Frying pan, of course. The dedicated, seasoned, only-for-eggs frying pan.

woahboy · 21/03/2024 22:16

A small wok
