Who is being unreasonable in this situation?

Car A (large, transit sized) indicated and turned left into a very narrow side road. There was a parked car half on the footpath on their side of the road, and a car waiting to pull out onto the busier main road. Car A is partially obscuring this drivers view trying to pull out due to where the parked car is (on a blind corner 🙄).

Car B (very small car) is almost level with the parked car. Nothing behind them. Car A waits for car B to reverse back but the driver doesn't. Car B then moves forward to behind the car waiting to pull out, despite car A gesturing for them to reverse back to allow them through easier.

Car A may have fitted through the gap, but it would have been very, very tight. Car B driver then shouts at car A driver they "would have got through" and "they need to learn to drive". A short heated exchange then occurs until car B is able to finally move forward.

So who was in the wrong here?

Car A - they should have tried to drive through the gap

Car B - they should have reversed to allow car A though with more room.

A should have waited until safe to pull out to pass parked car.
A does not have right to expect B to reverse.

Both in the wrong (you for gesturing for B to reverse rather than just waiting) and B for for shouting. B more of a dick than A on balance.

Feellikeafailurenow · 21/03/2024 18:20

Car B should have reversed especially if nothing behind so that car A wasn’t having to reverse back around the corner onto the busier main road they had turned in from. Car A is also a larger vehicle so car B being small would have been able to manoeuvre easier as well. Car A doesn’t know it’s not clear until they turn into the street.

if i was A and car B didn’t reverse back as car i would have pulled out to see if i “may” fit through the gap or not. I’d then be blocking the road and if they wanted to get past me they’d have to reverse back 🤷‍♀️

Parked car needs towed
Car at junction should have tried to exit to allow B to move up
B is being a dick not reversing to help out, but not obliged to
A was right not to have tried to squeeze through and just waited until road cleared

If I was Car B and someone tried that, we'd both be there until we died 😉

It’s illegal to park within 10m of a junction for this exact reason. But leaving that aside…

B caused the issue in the first place by not hanging back to ensure traffic was able to flow around the obstruction. But when A was unable to proceed because B had blocked the road, A should have waited quietly for the road to clear.

Nobody should be yelling or gesturing at anyone under any circumstances. B should not interfere in A’s decision whether to proceed or try to communicate with A at all. Equally B does not have to reverse if they choose not to. Everyone just needs to wait.

Agree 😊CarB should have reversed and stopped being a twat!

I just don’t get your logic.

Car B had the right of way, their side of the road is clear!

Mamette · 21/03/2024 19:49

Why should B reverse?

Car A has to wait until the road is free for them to overtake the parked car.

Because according to OP, the car holding car B up couldn't move onto the main road as car A was blocking their view.

Teateaandmoretea · 30/03/2024 08:50

Car B should have waited until the car turning right had turned before moving forward to the junction. It’s about anticipating what may happen. But equally if they didn’t realise the other car was going to stop in front of them then meh.

And the parked car needs towing away, what an utter dickhead place to park.
