People’s old crap…

I’m all for decluttering and re-using. Love a freebie on Facebook or Gumtree.

But.

If I am in the market for second hand Billy bookcases, or an old balance bike or some random IKEA toddler bed canopy, I’ll look in the Pass It On Free Groups. So please advertise your old crap on those. Not on the WhatsApp group for my street, or for my kids’ lift shares, or the book group chat.

AIBU to be irritated by all this random old crap cluttering up the “I don’t really want to be in these but I have to be as they have sometimes have quite crucial info on them” FB and WhatsApp groups?

And random old whingers bitching about completely inconsequential things. Total pain.

Totally agree...although I don't mind the quality stuff. It's that tat that gets me!

Thruft groups took off during covid when the charity shops were shut....but they are open again now. Its much easier to take (decent) (and transportable) stuff to a charity shop than advertise it and try to schedule a time for someone to pick it up. We have bags of kids old clothes advertised often....no-one wants a bag of unseen clothes.

But we also get all the broken tat that a charity shop won't take. These are real examples!
Box of mugs, 3 are missing handles and the rest are chipped
Kids water bottles....all missing lids
Dolls house - covered in manky stickers and kids scribble.
Broken microwave!
Broken TV - 20 yrs old!

But also...food, past BB date and usually opened.
If its not open and usable give it to a food bank. But no I don't want the last 300ml of gin from the back of your cupboard.
