last birthday my hubby and me got my daughter an ipod shuffle which she hates and has tried to break since she wanted an ipod nano she didn't get an 8 th birthday present as it was to have riding lessons but they were full up then we moved to new zealand now she wants onee for that birthday but i think it will hurt my hubbys feelings

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:15

no

she has tried to break the last one

and she is eight ffs

fortyplus · 27/03/2008 14:16

She is a brat YANBU

nickytwotimes · 27/03/2008 14:16

No. She doesn't deserve it for trying to break the last one.

Blu · 27/03/2008 14:17

I don't know what to say, really.

You bought her a shuffle when she was 7, and she tried to break it and was ungrateful? Hubby's feelings? What does he think?

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:19

you don't get what you want by trying the break the old one

it is a Life Lesson

wtf is wrong with a shuffle anyway I have one

Blu · 27/03/2008 14:19

In truth, I would not buy her a nano.

If she thinks she can get what she wants by destroying perfectly good (VERY perfectly good) presents, where will it end?

Do 8 year olds need all this paraphanalia?

Buy her a post office set!

(last para not serious - not quite!)

clarissemumofthree · 27/03/2008 14:19

no i brought a shuffel when she was 10

OP posts:
nickytwotimes · 27/03/2008 14:20

clarisse, who are you?

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:21

does her 8th birthday come after her 10th birthday?

wow

can I go backwards too? I would like to be 35

clarissemumofthree · 27/03/2008 14:22

you people are so mean. Do not talk to me about the way I treat my childeren

OP posts:
fortyplus · 27/03/2008 14:22

So she will be 11 this b-d? She is plenty old enough to start doing jobs for pocket money. Make her earn the money - she can save up for a nano.

zippitippitoes · 27/03/2008 14:22

ypou can go backwards capp just close your eyes and wish very hard

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:23

oh I see

you bought her a shuffle for her 10th birthday

she did not like it and tried to break it

she is now saying she never got an 8th birthday present so wants you to stump up for a new ipod

No. Ungrateful little sod.

nickytwotimes · 27/03/2008 14:23

I've reported your post on the adoption thread Clarisse.

Blu · 27/03/2008 14:23

how old is she now?

You mean she wants a nano in respect of a b'day pesent she didn't get 2 or 3 years ago?

I thnk you should explain to her that you bought her a shuffle , a nano is more expensive, and that presents are not part of some sort of bartering arrangement, but given freely out of love - and need to be acepted in the same spirit. Tell her that you will all save up fro a nano for her next b'day, but that she needs to shjow you that she can look after one properly.

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:24

no-one has criticised the way you treat your children

we are just saying we wouldn't buy her an ipod

buy her what you want

buy her a pony if it makes you both happy

but you Have Been Warned

zippitippitoes · 27/03/2008 14:25

i have a shuffle its perfectly adequate and i was promised it for my 50th

but didn't get anything for that

got the shuffle at xmas instead when tbh yes i did feel a bit less excited

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:25

oh Blu is so grown up

nickytwotimes · 27/03/2008 14:25

I think Clarisse may not be genuine. Do a search and see the adoption post.

fortyplus · 27/03/2008 14:25

Suddenly all becomes clear...

bundle · 27/03/2008 14:26

no way

Cappuccino · 27/03/2008 14:26

next time zippi they should buy you a post office set

zippitippitoes · 27/03/2008 14:27

of course i am only 47

Blu · 27/03/2008 14:28

x-posted with whirring brains, Capp

Clarrisse, e bay the shuffle (or sell it on here to a hun), buy your dd an ipod and matching iphone and pop them both in a nice Playboy carrying case.

tissy · 27/03/2008 14:28

I get it: she will be 11, but is asking for a Nano because she didn't get the riding lessons she was promised for her eighth birthday?

She seems rather mercenary and calculating!

My answer would be no...

... because she has a perfectly good shuffle. If she manages to break it, then still no, as she is clearly a vandal, and has no respect for property. She could ask for a contribution, and save some money if that is what she really wants...
