To want to sell my old DVDs

NCasOuting22 · 18/03/2024 12:02

I’m trying to have a clear out and have tried using music magpie and we buy books to sell my dvds but all the bar codes that I scan are met with a “sorry we’re not accepting this at the moment”.

does anyone know anywhere that I can sell/recycle old dvds?

thank you

We’ve had more luck with Ziffit than music magpie when clearing houses of deceased relatives

Yup Charity shops have stopped taking them & no-one wants them.
Does anyone even have a DVD player anymore ?

We ended up giving ours to the local co-op for their charity book stand.

Yes, and I buy (used) Dvds. Don't watch all that often and don't want to pay every month regardless.

i still prefer box sets of tv series on dvd , that said they sell for minimal usually

ViciousCurrentBun · 18/03/2024 22:24

I still have 500 DVD but they are in folders so take up little space. I have a games console they can be played on.

Createausername1970 · 18/03/2024 22:31

Not sure you will have much joy selling them, but Anglo Doorstep Collections will take DVDs. I have a collection booked for next week and I have two boxes of DVDs ready to go.

@ILoveSalmonSpread

It would break his heart to hear the comments

😂😂 He can still watch them. Whether others do or don't won't affect him.

ILoveSalmonSpread · 19/03/2024 07:34

Well yes he can, for now but it won’t be long before DVD players become obsolete as did video players.

Car Boot Sale.
5p each.
Halfway through the boot sale if they aren't shifting put a sign up "Buy one get one free".
Last hour of selling....1p each.
Last 20 minutes....a sign that says"Just take them. Please 😂"
This will only be worth it if you are selling lots of other stuff because otherwise you won't cover the pitch fee.

This. I got 50p for ten DVDs.

Jc2001 · 19/03/2024 07:57

I had hundreds of DVDs and looked at selling them but I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the time and effort for the pennies you get now.

In the end, to make more space I bought some of those 100 capacity cd wallets, got rid of the cases and put them in those. They take up hardly any room now, and sometimes take them on holiday or something.

Notfeelinghunkydory · 19/03/2024 07:59

My local tip has a recycling bin for cds and dvds

Wellhellooooodear · 19/03/2024 07:59

Am I the only dinosaur who still watches DVDs? I love a good rummage in charity shops for DVDs and also CDs!

DinnaeFashYersel · 19/03/2024 08:07

You are several years too late if you want to sell them.

A care home might appreciate them for residents.

I have many. £5 a pop? 😉

peakygold · 19/03/2024 08:15

Our local charity shop sells them for 10p each, and even they aren't accepting them anymore.

SkaneTos · 19/03/2024 11:25

@Wellhellooooodear
No, you are not the only one!
I still watch DVDs, and occasionally VHS tapes. And I listen to CDs.

dottiedodah · 19/03/2024 11:28

No market for them now really. Can't give them away it seems, !

ChessieFL · 19/03/2024 11:37

I still buy DVDs. Not everything is on streaming services and even the things that are may not be there forever - things quite often disappear from streaming. I want to be able to watch the things I like easily without having to search round to find which streaming service they’re on. I also like the extras you get on DVDs - backstage footage, deleted scenes, cast commentary etc. None of that is available on streaming services.

Jc2001 · 19/03/2024 12:21

I don't think anyone is saying you shouldn't watch them, just that there is no real second hand market for DVDs now. That's because most people aren't really interested anymore.

Happy24624 · 19/03/2024 12:25

I've had success giving them away as a job lot on Freecycle, maybe worth a try.

This!

Also mum's care home had loads, maybe OP you can donate there.

CeX will buy them off you, normally for 1p each and they definitely won't thank you for it because processing big dvd orders is time consuming, but they will buy them. Pal of mine manages one of the shops.

Please pass back to your friend that I love my local CEX store - Kent. Staff are friendly and so helpful to an oldie (ie over 40) who doesnt really know what they are doing with modern tech anymore. My DC wanted a new phone - and we looked at CEX - lots available, lots of options. But I panicked not buying new but still several £100. So I went in - lovely chat with the manager - showed me their massive checklist, and a 2 year warranty. I bought with total confidence.

The point of me posting this on this thread is to say when I tried to sell DVDs, phones, old ipads - the testing was strong and consistent. The store was so clear what they could take (a few old DVDs, a couple of other bits) but what they wouldn't take and why. I appreciate the clarity - it is very helpful.

muffledvoice · 15/09/2024 19:21

You could call local schools or nurseries as sometimes they have fun days where they can watch a film
