To want to sell my old DVDs

NCasOuting22 · 18/03/2024 12:02

I’m trying to have a clear out and have tried using music magpie and we buy books to sell my dvds but all the bar codes that I scan are met with a “sorry we’re not accepting this at the moment”.

does anyone know anywhere that I can sell/recycle old dvds?

thank you

Give them away on Facebook...or use them as bird scarer in the garden. Sadly they no value. I've just picked up some free on marketplace

TubeScreamer · 18/03/2024 13:50

give them away on your local Facebook site.

Charity shops here won’t take them any more or will only take U or PG certificate ones.

they just don’t have any value now

Notchangingnameagain · 18/03/2024 14:10

www.musicmagpie.co.uk buy DVD's but you have to scan the barcode for each one. They then give you a price for each one and send them off in the post.

Nobody wants DVDs anymore

I have a friend who sells DVDs to CEX. They have shops on lots of high streets. But he usually only gets pennies for them, either in cash or in vouchers to exchange in-store.

You know that the whole of the OP's original post is that Music Magpie doesn't want them?

Try giving them away on trash nothing or Facebook? Nobody buys DVDs any more.

@SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter

Well, thus somebody does.

there are a lot if programs I grew up with, that whilst being steamed now, I suspect won't be in a couple if years & id be sad to lose them forever.

@naturesform as z I've said, some of us do!

MonsteraMama · 18/03/2024 15:28

CeX will buy them off you, normally for 1p each and they definitely won't thank you for it because processing big dvd orders is time consuming, but they will buy them. Pal of mine manages one of the shops.

SpringSprungALeak · 18/03/2024 15:29

If So many just want rid of them, why are they still so bloody expensive on eBay etc??

Mouldyfoodhelp · 18/03/2024 15:32

This is really interesting as just last night I was considering buying some of my favourite series on DVD with streaming becoming more expensive with adverts and catalogue of programmes shrinking often with random number series.

ouch321 · 18/03/2024 15:37

Donate them to the hospital. They have, or at least some do, TVs and DVDs in the day rooms or 'lounge' areas for the wards. Or maybe give them to a care home or something. Shame to chuck in the bin. Or there might even be international charities that take them for orphanages abroad.

Sausage1989 · 18/03/2024 15:41

You want to SELL them?!?!!? Who on earth is going to buy them. You can donate them. You aren't going to make any money off them. Possibly a few quid.

Gassylady · 18/03/2024 15:45

Lucky in that some of our charity shops still have good numbers of DVDS. I donate some, buy some rinse and repeat. Not everything is available to stream everywhere!

extrasushiplease · 18/03/2024 15:46

Movie fans often do want physical media, and with how streaming takes away titles randomly, more people are coming around to keeping their favorites around.

If you don't want to do a Facebook listing, donate them to a library as they'll usually sell donations to raise money and those who want them can happily hunt. You may also want to see if you have used record stores etc around that buy and sell used: You won't get a lot, but you may get some easy pocket change and the movies may find a new happy home.

Because the kind of person who puts DVDs on ebay is obviously clueless in the first place to think there's actually a market for them. It stands to reason they'd be deluded on their worth

Backtoreality1 · 18/03/2024 15:49

I regularly buy DVDs from charity shops - hate streaming as you don't get to keep the good stuff. Only have a small tv not one of those monstrosiites that take up half the room so they work perfectly for me.

Actually, there's a pretty decent market, especially for more obscure/less popular titles than aren't easy to find on streaming services.

Not to mention there's still a proportion of people who don't subscribe to streaming services, some don't even have internet!

Unmute · 18/03/2024 15:53

I still buy DVDs - mostly from charity shops, but also Vinted if there's something I particularly want. If you list them individually you'll sell some, but it'll take ages and might not be worth the effort.

I can see that would be the case for rarities (although everything be watched online if you know how) but surely there's no market for people trying to flog Forrest Gump or whatever

MineAgain · 18/03/2024 15:55

Our local charity shop stopped taking them a while ago. There aren’t many people who still want them. I think there are some recycling places that accept them so you’re probably best to try doing that.

How is this thread an AIBU ?

It took you longer to type that than it would have done to simply click the back button.

Freakinfraser · 18/03/2024 18:05

We gave ours away op. About a decade ago. Dvd players are basically now considered obsolete even though a small percentage still use them,

if your codes aren’t accepted it means they perceive no market for them and can’t sell them.

Clearly not. 🙄

lala567 · 18/03/2024 18:09

If places like Music Magpie won't even offer you 40p no one will buy them.
