NCasOuting22 · 18/03/2024 12:02

I’m trying to have a clear out and have tried using music magpie and we buy books to sell my dvds but all the bar codes that I scan are met with a “sorry we’re not accepting this at the moment”.

does anyone know anywhere that I can sell/recycle old dvds?

thank you

Try giving them away on trash nothing or Facebook? Nobody buys DVDs any more.

TonightMatthewIamgoingtobecher · 18/03/2024 12:05

Just donate you likely won't make much money. Charity shops near me sell 4 DVDs for a pound. You could also donate to nurseries/retirement homes as appropriate.

KrisAkabusi · 18/03/2024 12:05

You won't sell them as nobody wants to buy them.

pasturesgreen · 18/03/2024 12:05

You may want to sell them, but I'd say it's unlikely that you'll get any many potential buyers...

OldTinHat · 18/03/2024 12:06

Have you tried Ziffit?

AhBiscuits · 18/03/2024 12:07

I don't know anyone who buys DVDs. I'd try a charity shop but if they don't want them bin them.

INeedAnotherName · 18/03/2024 12:07

I have loads i want to get rid of too (house sale) but most people prefer streaming now unfortunately.

Changingplace · 18/03/2024 12:08

Not even all the charity shops near me take DVDs and CDs anymore, it’s sad because they did cost a lot of money at the time but hardly anymore will buy them now.

Shogunspretzel · 18/03/2024 12:09

Sorry but I just don't think they are a thing you can really sell anymore.

ShortColdandGrey · 18/03/2024 12:12

Nobody will buy them. We had loads to get rid of and like previous posters have said the charity shops don't even want them.

Fast800 · 18/03/2024 12:13

Charity shops in our area no longer take them because no one is buying them.

vix3rd · 18/03/2024 12:15

Yup Charity shops have stopped taking them & no-one wants them.
Does anyone even have a DVD player anymore ?

We ended up giving ours to the local co-op for their charity book stand.

We do. Haven’t used it in 5 years now though. It’s just collecting dust.

User478 · 18/03/2024 12:21

If you have a cex near you you can take a massive box in, it might only get you a couple of £ (3 big boxes of ones that music magpie didn't want got us £6) but you can leave them there and they deal with it all and throw away duds/fakes/the old boxes.

KERALA1 · 18/03/2024 12:21

Had to take ours to the tip. Obsolete. Who do you think would want to buy them?

GasPanic · 18/03/2024 12:22

I don't think many people want them.

Mostly I buy blueray/HD as a minimum these days and prefer 4K for future proofing. DVDs can look pretty crappy on a large modern TV.

I've still got several DVD and CD players, as well as a couple of cassette players/recorders, two VHS recorders, and a record deck. I don't use the VHS recorders very often, but I still use all the others regularly and still buy CDs and DVDs from time to time.

Needmorelego · 18/03/2024 12:28

Car Boot Sale.
5p each.
Halfway through the boot sale if they aren't shifting put a sign up "Buy one get one free".
Last hour of selling....1p each.
Last 20 minutes....a sign that says"Just take them. Please 😂"
This will only be worth it if you are selling lots of other stuff because otherwise you won't cover the pitch fee.

Maybe she wants to know if she's unreasonable at trying to sell them? Better here than in the TV addicts section.

taxguru · 18/03/2024 12:40

We do job lots of them on Ebay. Just be careful to weigh them so you can keep each lot under the postage price thresholds so you don't get stung by actual postage costs being more than you charge. From memory, I think you can get 15-20 cds for the £3.45 small parcel postage (depending on type of case, double of single cds, amount of card/paper in the sleeve, etc) and they sell for around a tenner plus postage, so you can clear a few pounds after postage and ebay fees. Just a matter of making up sensible job lots of genres/artists that people may specifically want, rather than a random lot of 15 random artists. For example, a month or two ago, we sold a job lot of "country" music cds - not the usual top artists, but a range of lesser known singers. Before that we cleared out our son's old stuff and sold a job lot of "kiddie" cds, i.e. wheels on the bus, milkshake, etc., as I think some parents prefer to put on a cd for their young children rather than play on an ipod/iphone etc.

Singleandproud · 18/03/2024 12:42

Instead of selling them as is, someone might buy them if you sell them as a boxful for arts and crafts or bird deterrents for an allotment or fruit and veg plot.

Nesbi · 18/03/2024 12:54

I wince slightly at our boxes of DVDs tucked away in the loft. When they first came out it seemed amazing, incredible picture quality after VHS, and it finally seemed possible to buy films in a format that would genuinely last, and which made building up a film library seem like a reasonable thing to do. In those early days it felt genuinely special to buy a much-loved film in this new “archival” format!

If only I’d known! The picture quality of a dvd looks rubbish now when you can stream in HD or 4k. All those special editions, director’s cuts, commentaries, condemned to cardboard boxes hidden under the Christmas decorations. I dread to think what I spent on them.

AhBiscuits · 18/03/2024 12:57

Your only mistake was waiting too long to get rid of them.

AmaryllisChorus · 18/03/2024 12:59

our local charity shops won't accept them, No one buys them anymore.

You need to give them away or chuck them.
