OK I know I'm am old fart, but DH and I went to see Dune (part 2) and 80% of the film was bloody deafening . I had to put my fingers in my ears at many points.

Why? WTF?

I went to see it this week and loved it, didn’t have any issue with noise at all!

WhateverMate · 16/03/2024 00:07

One of my local cinemas is the same, so loud you can feel the volume in your chest no matter which film they're showing.

Perhaps it's to drown out all the slurping, crunching and guzzling, Mumsnetters keep complaining about 😂😂

EconomyClassRockstar · 16/03/2024 00:08

Where did you go see it? IMAX, etc? Was the whole draw that you would be completely immersed in the film?

Whothatbe · 16/03/2024 00:11

I've had to ask for the volume to be turned down before. Kids movie though - it was ear shattering.

Mmhmmn · 16/03/2024 00:12

I think they were going to town on making the sound a huge part of the experience of the film. Looking forward to seeing it but based on this, I think I might feel a bit over stimulated and irritated. I hope not as loved the wailing in the first one 😂

ProjectBanana · 16/03/2024 00:12

I saw the Bob Marley biopic last week . The volume was so loud that it was difficult to hear what was being said. I am aware that this sounds ridiculous 😆.

That definitely sounds like it was too loud! Ugh. Exhausting!

I agree with you. The volume is so loud it affects the clarity.
I struggled with the dialogue of Oppenheimer and The Color Purple because it was too loud and too "fuzzy".

Catsmere · 16/03/2024 04:11

I stopped going to cinemas over twenty years ago because of this.

Wotsdestory · 16/03/2024 04:24

I too bring earplugs when going to the cinema, have done for years.

Interested to read that a PP asked for the volume to be turned down, it never occurred to me that you could this! Although, I don't know who you'd even ask at my local VUE, there are so few staff there nowadays.

Mombie · 16/03/2024 04:40

I knew it was Dune as soon as I opened the thread. I remember thinking ‘bloody hell calm down’ because of the volume of all the booming/crashing/wailing at certain points and they had the air con on full blast so I was freezing.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 16/03/2024 06:20

I go into sensory overload and fall heavily asleep

CrikeyMajikey · 16/03/2024 07:05

Same. Went with DD to see it. The volume was making our sofa vibrate. However, I did manage a snooze, really not my sort of film.

menopausalmare · 16/03/2024 07:13

I refuse to go to the cinema for this reason. I'm 50 and my hearing isn't great but kids films are uncomfortable to watch. I stuck my fingers in my ears at Vue. I complained on their Facebook chat bot and was told I should behave notified a member of staff. I can't leave young children unattended to wander the cinema. Not going back.

notanothernana · 16/03/2024 07:37

YABU to have seen Dune 💤💤💤

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/03/2024 07:40

Did none of you go speak to cinema staff about it? We've done this and they've turned it down a notch (and up; when the opposite problem has occurred).

OutingPosts · 16/03/2024 07:41

Took elderly friend to see One Life and she had a decibel meter app, which she waved around throughout the film! I complained and they turned it down.
