To be so fuming at neighbour!!

Where we live we have to park on the road with our 3 other neighbouring houses (can draw a diagram if required but don't think it adds much to the thread). We've lived here for a few years now and generally it's been fine but had a few minor issues with one neighbour (not parking related). But all fine, nothing to fall out over and I always say hi.

This morning DP was just about to go to work when he witnessed said neighbour drive into his car then drive off WTF. He rang her and she admitted it then said she didn't know it was his car. She obviously knows it's his fucking car as we've lived there for 3 years and there's only 5 cars that park there! Plus if she didn't know whose car it was (as she alleged) was she not going to leave a note? It's caused a lot of damage and is just a massive faff we don't need right now. I'm just so glad he saw it happen because if he didn't then we'd have thought someone driving past had done it and would have to fork out ourselves to repair it and we really don't have the money right now. Aibu to be massively MASSIVELY fucked off with her? DP is a lot more chilled than me and is just glad she'll pay for it but I'm fuming!

YANBU to be fucked off.

Report to the insurance ASAP and give them her details.

JacquesHarlow · 15/03/2024 21:32

You are of course not being unreasonable. The neighbour needs to pay. And needs to log the accident online with the police as well - if they don’t do it , you can.

The problem is, people love to avoid all this to try and avoid insurance premium hikes , so try and settle it privately. Would they have ever even given you that courtesy? No. So get them to claim on their insurance etc.

I agree with you. It adds nothing to this thread. But the wannabe CSIs who think they have a great sense of humour will come on here very soon saying

“Diagram OP. It’s the rules you know”. Etc.

Iloveyoubut · 15/03/2024 21:32

I would be raging! That’s absolutely disgusting behaviour on her part, I’d honestly not be able to look at her again. Nothing to do with hitting the car but driving off without leaving contact details and the BS about not knowing whose car it was, that’s terrible! And yes as PP said, a diagram is the rules!

Cherrysoup · 15/03/2024 21:34

She’s a horrible cow, what a nasty thing for her to do. Get onto your insurance and don’t accept any nonsense from her.

Applescruffle · 15/03/2024 21:36

I do not require a diagram but a pie chart or bar chart showing your level of anger compared to your DP's would be nice.

rickandmorts · 15/03/2024 21:36

@JacquesHarlow I know that's why I mentioned the diagram 🤣 just knew it would get brought up! He went round tonight and she was begging him not to contact insurance as apparently she's done this loads around the village (ie hit other people's cars). Should she even be on the road?? It complicates matters that DPs car isn't worth much and it needs a fair bit of work (new bonnet, new grill and new radiator) so insurance will probably write it off. Whereas if she pays for the repair out of insurance he can just get it fixed. But I totally agree it needs reporting and her premiums going up. But DP is very relaxed and just wants a quiet life. Whereas I want fucking war, how dare she!!

You should always report to insurers even if no claim is made as it alters the risk profile.

Fucking lol 🤣 his anger has gone from around 25% this morning to around 2% now and I'm a good 98%. He said he felt sorry for her when he went round this evening. I was like that's what she WANTS you to feel. She didn't feel fucking sorry for us this morning when she did a hit and run and would happily have left us with a 2k bill had he not seen her!

Report her for leaving scene. The next time she may hit a person, nobody should be driving if having multiple crashes.

BlueEyesBrownHair · 15/03/2024 21:40

Well…its a hit and run. Just go straight to insurance and let them sort it.

Marblessolveeverything · 15/03/2024 21:39

Yeah she's clearly a shit driver. She has a massive SUV that she clearly cannot drive. I don't even understand how she's caused so much damage by reversing out of a parking space. She must have been going at some speed 🫣. Also I told one of our neighbours who said her friend had been round a few weeks ago and her car had got hit. They thought it was the neighbour but had no proof. So I'm guessing it definitely was her.

Fuzziduck · 15/03/2024 21:44

Just report it.
If she's not reporting damage to her own, she doesn't have to pay excess to repair yours.

Won't DP have to pay his £300 excess though? Or does her insurance cover it? When my car got wrote off last year by a driver on the wrong side of the road (we have NO luck with cars 😂) I still had to pay my excess. Which stung!

If it gets written off Cat N you could be quids in and still get to keep and drive the car. Definitely claim against her. Next time she could hit a child.

No he claims against her insurance! Not his own. So no excess to pay! Claim claim claim. You phone your insurance company and they claim it against hers. Get a text/email etc something from her so you've got evidence if she tries to deny it later. Get a ring doorbell/camera that covers your cars for any future issues too.

Marblessolveeverything · 15/03/2024 21:52

@rickandmorts I am sure someone has cameras. Report her for dangerous driving. It could be a child next time and given the vehicle she won't see them.

Millymollypandy · 15/03/2024 21:53

Isn’t it illegal to drive off from the scene of an accident? Might be worth asking on 101.

DrunkenElephant · 15/03/2024 21:55

The fact that she wasn’t honest enough to tell you she had done it would not make me trust her to pay the full cost of repairs.

She could fuck about and refuse to pay, and at that point your insurance company won’t accept any claim because it’s a condition of your policy that you notify them of any accidents or damage as soon as possible.

Save yourself the stress and go through the insurance company.

rickandmorts · 15/03/2024 21:56

Okay that is useful to know @JigglySmithers thank you! I'll mention to DP tomorrow. He is very much path of least resistance so will want to go the easiest route but if she's a serial offender then I do think it needs to go through insurance!!

No no no he needs to do is now, ASAP. Before she gets the chance to deny etc. And honestly she sounds dangerous.

rickandmorts · 15/03/2024 21:59

@DrunkenElephant when he went round tonight she kept saying she had loads of money so could pay whatever to get it fixed 🫣. Which I found a strange comment. But totally agreed, I don't trust her one bit. How dare she just drive off. When he rung her this morning DP said she shat herself and sounded like she'd been rumbled. So she was definitely going to try and get away with it. Talk about shitting on your own door step. Can't wait to be awkward and frosty with her for the next 20 years 😂

OP posts:
Therealjudgejudy · 15/03/2024 21:59

You have to report this to your insurance. Not only could she hit a person next time, but as she left the scene, I wouldn't trust her to pay a penny. Then, if you haven't reported it you don't have a leg to stand on and will be out of pocket for her wreckless driving

Because it is an obligation according to the law @puzzledout !

rickandmorts · 15/03/2024 22:01

@JigglySmithers yeah I honestly don't trust her at all. But she clearly fooled DP tonight because he said she looked upset and he felt bad for her. Wish it had been me that had gone round but I was out unfortunately. I said she's only upset she got caught!
