AIBU? I occasionally maybe once a week find a silverfish downstairs usually in the boiler cupboard or in the utility room. We have a cleaner once a week and I regularly clean (especially the floors) in between times, almost daily. Now this evening I've just seen one (and killed it) upstairs in my daughters carpeted bedroom (downstairs is all tiles and laminate throughout - no carpet or rugs)

AIBU is it OK to see the odd one or have I got a massive infestation that I need to get pest control in for?

YANBU don't be silly it's fine to see the odd one you're not INFESTED

YABU you're infested get pest control

I just had one in the bathroom and wondered the same thing. It has probably been more than a week but have found them in there semi-regularly I'd say.
It suddenly struck me that maybe there are thousands of them in the wall or something 🤢

They live for years and years and can just eat dust to survive. They’re pretty amazing really. It’s normal to see the odd one. I wouldn’t even kill it. But spiders get to live rent free too as long as they make themselves useful. Come to that, silverfish are useful also! They eat spiders and predatory bugs. And when they die, the others eat the body, so they’re tidy too.

Those fuckers can really take hold. Once a week to see them is a lot I think.
I would treat the boiler room and utility.

I have a spray that seems to temporarily work, I might not see them for a short while. But whenever I do it's literally 1 never more than 1. But I know they're fast so maybe I'm just seeing the odd slow one. I wonder if pest control have better methods.

Anyone else? Anyone used pest control for this?

What harm do they do?

Your post made me realise I haven’t seen one in six months or more, I used to see the odd one.
Presumed they weren’t a big deal

They love damp, cold wet. Steam clean then dry also bleach. Since I've been using a strong mix of bleach and hot water to mop my bathroom floors I've not seen annother, this was advised by a family member who works for pest control. I do run a dehumidifier in the room that has alot of damp problems (private rent and they are investigating it) but the bathroom was the only place I was getting them

Hot water with bleach? I thought you only used cold? Doesn’t using hot water make it ineffective as it breaks down the compounds?!
